LOL almost all the posts I made back then were just Billboard chart peak recites, which used to annoy pen and Nicholas 2.0. I remember them both (moreso Nick) hating Billboard, to the point where they would give me a hard time for referring to peak positions in billboard numbers. At the time my philosophy was that Mediabase meant nothing because Billboard was, well, Billboard. It took years of following the Mediabase charts in relation to the Billboard ones to understand why Mediabase is way better. More stations and of course the daily updates are nice I think both have their charms. I like Mediabase for the reasons you posted above, but Billboard just seems more, well, official. One thing I don't like about Billboard is that some of the songs that hit Top 40 on Mediabase don't see the light of day on Billboard.

Most of the time, I don't mind the fact that they don't hit because well, they're not very good. However, "Smooth Sailing" and "By and Down" are unforgiveable. And Tool's "Schism" losing to "Fat Lip", ugh. But MB let "Demons" and "Team" hit #1, so that's also bad.

some songs don't hit top 40 on bb because songs that have already gotten recurrent on mediabase stick in the 11-15 zone on bb because of their special rules

It's the equivalent of you shopping at Walmart while your grandpa swears by the Co-Op.

Radio & Records, I presume. I'm still lost. What is that? They released charts using Mediabase's data until 2006, when they were bought out and switched to Billboard. They supposedly shut down for good in 2009, but up until recently you could still access their charts at cclamp.radioandrecords.com/.

Radio & Records, I presume. I'm still lost. What is that? Radio & Records was another music trade publication, basically Billboard's main competitor (which used Mediabase data rather than Nielsen data) until 2006, when Billboard's parent company bought it out, and eventually ceased publication altogether in 2009. Unlike Billboard it published individual AAA, active and heritage rock charts, so when it closed down Billboard ended up adopting the charts themselves (and changed the "Modern Rock Tracks" chart to "Alternative Songs")

The only stupidity is "I'm a Panthers fan" Haha :) I'm actually a rare diehard season ticket holder. I'm hoping my suffering over the last 21 years will pay off soon. Since you're from Ontario, I'm just going to guess that you're a Leafs fan? I'm a Red Wings fan actually haha. Cannot stand the Leafs. I live in an extremely French city though, so there's quite the divide between Leafs and Habs fans here.

I've always had a soft spot for the Red Wings because of their amazing success and now like them more since one of my favorite all-time players, Stephen Weiss is in Detroit despite being non-existent last season. I absolutely cannot stand the Habs and aren't too fond of the Leafs either as their fans come down here in droves when we play them in the winter, so I'm glad to hear your answer! Obviously, hockey isn't that big down here overall as the Panthers have sucked for almost their whole existence and it's a non-traditional market, but they do have a small and very diehard fanbase that is as knowledgeable about the sport as anyone. I hate this time of year with the off-season going on. I don't think I've ever anticipated a season to come faster as the fans down here have high expectations over the next 2-3 years or so with all of the young talent in the Panthers system. Analysts say that both of our teams should be fighting for Wild Card spots near the end of the season, so here's hoping they both get into the playoffs :)

The last time they missed them was during the 1990-91 season, and I was born in November of 91 during the 91-92 season. I don't know how I'd feel if they missed out, considering I've been a huge Wings fan literally since my first day or kindergarten when I was 3 and took a Red Wings lunch pail to school haha. I'm not as into hockey as I used to be. I still follow it, I'm in a fantasy keeper league, and I'll watch the playoffs, but for the most part I don't watch much during the season, and I much prefer the World Juniors at Christmas Time.

The Red Wings missing the playoffs is just about as rare as the Panthers making it haha. It's very possible for both to happen this season, but we'll see. World Juniors or any non-NHL tournament isn't big in the US, but I know it's massive in Canada. Maybe college hockey is for certain schools up north. Most people down here are more into football and basketball. I'm a big Dolphins fan and watch a good deal of football as well, but hockey is by far my favorite sport. I used to be a huge Marlins and baseball fan, but I care about it as much as basketball. In other words, I hardly ever watch them. I tried to get more into soccer during the World Cup as we might get an MLS team down here in the future.

The World Cup is fine and all, but nothing compares to European Club Footy.

But enough from me, if anyone else wants to step up to the plate and share their favourite Artie moments, the stage is yours. He'd never even heard of Mariah Carey when it was like 2007 and when another member came in here and mentioned her on a first-name basis, Artie seriously believed the member was talking about the band Marah. LOL almost all the posts I made back then were just Billboard chart peak recites, which used to annoy pen and Nicholas 2.0. It took years of following the Mediabase charts in relation to the Billboard ones to understand why Mediabase is way better. More stations and of course the daily updates are nice Billboard was OK until 1991 when their chart became a clusterf*** of untimely methodology changes involving sales, physical singles releases, weighted markets, editorial payola...Mediabase has always been straight up airplay. We stuck with that for the sake of consistency, since that's what Billboard had been since 1946 up until 1991. And because that BB thinks that "Schism" wasn't a #1 hit. Anyone remember Noah Eaton? He was the reason I joined this board. Something about his posting style was so calming and relaxing. Sincerely, Noah Eaton Lisping Hibiscus! He was my fave! His posts were so intelligent and he was a real genuine guy who I felt I related to and was in agreement with a lot of what he said (although I remember some differences we had, but we had quite civil conversations about them). Sadly he boardicided due to being basically cyber-bullied and harrased by a bunch of posters in the Lounge section. A bunch of posters boardicided because of those same posters, and it was actually big deal on Pulse for a while and was nicknamed "The Mass-Boardicide Incident" or something like that. Reading this made me feel ashamed for the sake of humanity. I had noticed his name no longer linked to a profile, but never looked into it any further, and now I've read why. He never struck me as one with enough self-importance to delete his own profile, but he also never struck me as a magnet for cyber-bullying. Sometimes you just wish the internet would just go away and never come back. Ha. He just was. Check out his avatar in my last post. That says everything you need to know about Joe (the Man) right there. pulsemusic.proboards.com/thread/2484/kelly-osbourne-word is everything else you need to know. He coined the phrase "big dumb idiot" like 6½ years before Archer did. That's what makes him The Man. What was his opinion? lol Basically, he thought mid 2000s Alternative sucked, when I thought that was the best Alternative was. If you want to see the discussion about that, check out the "Light 'Em Up" thread, lol. I gotta tell ya, I spent the majority of my last couple weeks of 2013 listening to KNDD's "The End A to Z", which basically was their entire music library played back in ABC order by song title. Because anytime radio is playing anything obscure that I know, it's like earth-shatteringly awesome to me, and they were doing it for like 2 weeks straight. On top of that, I'd been getting all up into 80's alternative/new wave/post punk at the time (and still am), and they were playing tons of it. So I reached the point where I'm opening up my iTunes library to try to guess what song's coming next, but then came the sinking realization that they were omitting enormous amounts of mid-2000s material. I mean, they didn't even play "Paralyzer". Now I personally don't really ever need to hear that song again, but it bugged me that they felt that song was beneath them enough to act like it never existed. It wasn't the biggest radio hit of the decade or anything. So that led me to make up a playlist entirely of Alternative of '05-'08, and now 8 months later, I still can't get enough of it. I left off "Paralyzer" too, but that's OK, because I can! I love mid-2000s Alternative. They just occasionally picked the wrong songs to become their biggest hits. Oh, btw... hey again everyone...(well there's that!)

I was a pop forum regular in like 2001 but back then the only people who had the internet (other than me) were smart people.
I know you brought up the Tool thing first but it had to be re-emphasized. :).

You were one of the ones I mentioned having remembered from my older days here between 08-10, even if it was by your Dale avatar as oppose to your username haha!

I was a pop forum regular in like 2001 but back then the only people who had the internet (other than me) were smart people. I know you brought up the Tool thing first but it had to be re-emphasized. :). I think you left right before I started, which means you missed the peak of my anti-indie pop crusade.
