RCA... if you don't want to promote Sara anymore, then just drop her. It's clear you don't give a rat's butt about her.

And even though they dropped the ball with this album after "Slow Me Down" peaked, Sara seems to have a positive, happy relationship with them and enjoy where she's at in her career.

So she enjoys them jerking her around for months, giving no promotion to a single, waiting three months after a lead single crawled its way into the top 20 to announce its followup, and managing to have about the same level of career momentum as Gary Allan (by which I mean zero)? She has a very strange definition of "happy relationship".

She has a very strange definition of "happy relationship". It's not like she'd be doing any better somewhere else? Artists like Tim McGraw can pull off the switch to a fresher label, but a woman of Sara's age is probably not going to be viable the same way Martina McBride didn't do so hot after leaving RCA. At least they pulled off a big comeback hit with her in "A Little Bit Stronger" and they did things right with "Slow Me Down." Her label gives her a lot of creative control and freedom to do what she wants, and I get the feel that she really likes that, especially considering she probably plays the role of mom more than the role of country singer on a daily basis. She stays very busy even when she's not having hit singles on the radio, both in her career and also with her personal life. RCA sucked at the way they handled the follow-up release to the new album, but it's better than nothing and she gets to keep doing what she loves while still remaining somewhat relevant. They've done a lot better with her than say Curb did with Jo Dee Messina the last 7 or so years, so I can see why she wanted out, but there's no reason to expect that same response from Sara, since they're actually releasing her music and getting her the occasional hit. Even in her 'prime,' her momentum was not constant anyway.

I think Sara's at the point in her career and age where if she left RCA (whether it'd be mutual or being dropped) it would be devastating to the rest of her career. Radio has obviously shown that they aren't kind to female artists in terms of commercial success and leaving a major record label like RCA would only hurt her chances at future success. Sara signed a new deal with RCA in late 2013 or early 2014 (I'm not sure on an exact date). RCA I'm sure knows they put other priorities ahead of her in 2014 and nobody will ever know what happened with the "Can't Stop Loving You"/"Put My Heart Down" debacle; but I'm sure the label knows that was not Sara's fault and they would come back at a later date with new material (again I'm just speculating on a time table).
I'm not sure how much longer Sara and RCA will be together but right now It's her best interest to stay with them as long as they want her. It stinks what happened with her last single (or two, lol) and it's unfortunate that her momentum is not what it used to be, but staying with RCA would be the best thing for her right now - unless she comes to the point that she no longer cares about commercial success and decides that being an independent artist is what she would like to do with her music. She's always had an excellent relationship with RCA and Sony Music Nashville and they treat her like family. I'm not going to fault her for wanting stability. I'm sure Sara knows at some point this relationship will end and she will be content with how her career with them went.
