More the vibe I like from them, but there is too much going on in that chorus. there is one very annoying high vocal I'll have to get used to, but otherwise, it isn't as bad as I feared it would be. I thought they would surely go the Maroon 5 road to certify their pop stuatus. glad they didn't.

on first listen, the song is alright, but I don't see it being strong enough for a lead single, especially compared to last album's material. I don't think this will immediately challenge the Foos on Alt and might not ever get to a #1-Alt level. Maybe it will grow on me, but for now I'm slightly disappointed.

Some weird production choices going on here. What's with those loud screeching sounds?

I actually like this. It's not great, the verses are kind of boring, but at least it builds up to a more explosive chorus. The screams in the background are kind of weird though, I agree Pipa.

I love it. I realize everyone wants another "Radioactive", but I fully expected something more similar stylistically to "It's Time", and that's what we got. This is VERY good.

Song's out. The verses are kinda boring, and that chorus is annoyingly awful. Very disappointing. Disagreed, disagreed, and disagreed. Some weird production choices going on here. What's with those loud screeching sounds? This is my one complaint about it as well.

I was a bit underwhelmed by this as well. It's nowhere as strong as "It's Time," "Radioactive," or "Demons." Maybe about on par with "On Top of the World." The chorus isn't bad, but otherwise, I can't see it for sure hitting #1.

This is starting to grow on me already. The chorus has actually been stuck in my head all day. But what the f*ck is going on in the background of the verses? Sooo annoying.

this might be like "Coming Of Age" for me
with the first listen it just falls flat, but with more I finally get it
because right now the verses just don't fit with the chorus in my head, same as coming of age

Alright, now that I've heard the full song and not just the iTunes preview...
Is that a bird in the background? Goddamn, it's annoying. The verses aren't too bad, they just lack spark. Oh god, the chorus is horrible. It just suddenly speeds up for this chirpy nonsense that... ugh.
This is better than OTOTW (because the verses are better), but it's not as good as Demons (which wasn't hard to top TBH).

There's no doubt in my mind this would be better received if this wasn't an Imagine Dragons song, just as "Coming Of Age" woulda been better received had it not been Foster The People. Everyone wanted another "Radioactive" just as everyone wanted another "Helena Beat" when "Coming Of Age" came out, and when that didn't happen it started to rain hatred.

It's human nature, most people generally think and speak relatively as oppose to literally. That's why the two songs I mentioned above were so poorly received. It's also why movie sequels and later seasons of tv shows are poorly received.

This is definitely their worst single, for me. I'm a bit disappointed.

Seems decent. It has that large production and booming choruses that so many artists are using right now.
Almost seems like there's a competition going on in the music industry to see who can come up with the "largest" chorus and the biggest production

Actually, I liked "It's Time" and pretty much hated every succeeding ID follow-up single so reading this upped my expectations a bit. On first listen it's nice to hear them tone down on the overblown pretentiousness which made me hate "Radioactive" and "Demons" so much, but for all the buildup in the production the chorus comes off as kinda underwhelming, as booming it as it may be. Production-wise it's alright, not really much of a divergence from anything by them in the past, though they should've gotten rid of that screechy noise that repeats in the background of the first verse (comes off as a failed attempt to replicate the "Yeah!"s in the background of "N***** in Paris"). Also interesting that the background harmonies in the second verse kinda sound like they were ripped straight out of "Riptide".

Wow, this really sucks. It's not just bland but annoyingly bland, this is the kind of song I'd write off to the bottom of the chart but this is IMAGINE DRAGONS?! Like, come on, I liked all of their singles even "Demons" and "On Top of the World" but this is just...ugh. Send these guys to pop and keep them away from Rock, they've chosen their path and its not a good one.

I sure as hell didn't want another "Radioactive". i Don't recall if it charted first on Rock charts and then crossed over to Pop and I don't wanna be disrespectful to the song's true genre, but I failed to get any Rock vibe from "Radio Active", so I just simply ignored it. this new song , might be song number 3 I like from this band?

Did this not get an hourly deal?
The pre-release promo implied it did, but 133 spins would seem light for artificial airplay.

On first listen, I actually like this more than all of their singles besides "It's Time". Perhaps some elements of the production are a bit overcooked, and maybe the chorus tries a little too hard to be big and anthemic, but I like the lyrics and the overall vibe of it. I could see it getting tiresome after heavy airplay, but for now I give it a thumbs up, and I don't see why it wouldn't be a big hit. It fits right in with the last two Alternative #1's.
That said, I don't want this to completely cockblock the Foos from reaching the top. So I'm kind of glad it's only getting half as much airplay out of the gate.

What in the heck did I just listen to? That was awful. I loved their other singles...but this song falls way short for all the points mentioned above by everyone already. Looking at the picture with the audio I can they are trying to create the atmosphere of the spirit rising with the background vocals coming from the worst gospel choir (I'm sure it was on purpose but it's hard on the ears).
Here's my guess....the feedback from pop/HotAC radio will not be good for the screeching sounds. The label will quickly put out a radio version (if they haven't already) with all that removed and about 15 seconds taken off at the end. Vocals of the lead vocalist and group are good. I didn't even care for the slowed down section about 2 minutes into the song and then we are jarred back to attention with a VERY loud chorus again (Mumford & Sons 2.0). Alt radio may still get this version.
Bottom line - this isn't good. I'm guessing the label may be a bit worried.
