I don't think anyone hates Imagine Dragons for their success. I think it's because this song to many is overrated and doesn't deserve to do so well. Success always has alot to do with it IMO. There's a reason why Nickelback, 3 Doors Down, Maroon 5, Fall Out Boy, and MB20 were among the most hated bands in the world throughout the 00s. Young pop music fans hate sappy love ballads, and rock fans get jealous because they think their favourite bands deserve the mainstream success instead. In Imagine Dragons' case, they write songs about fighting inner battles and wanting to better themselves instead of love songs, but young pop fans hate that just as much as the rock love ballads of the 00s. They don't want deep lyrics, they want songs about "living the dream", partying, dancing, teen romance, breakups, etc. And the jealousy is from fans of other alt/indie bands who think their favourite bands are better and deserved the massive cross-format success Imagine Dragons got. It's pretty much a modern version of the first half of this post. I just hate this because it's not very good

I thought the hatred stemmed from Imagine Dragons releasing a shitty song called "I Bet My Life"?

I don't know what your opinions will be, but I wasn't impressed with this new song "Gold" much either.

Foster The People's "Coming Of Age" also got to #1 here, so this shouldn't be a surprise. "Budapest" actually took over today and is now #1.

I think that pretty much certifies Imagine Dragon's song a dud. I mean overstepped by an even more annoying song like "Budapest"?
That new single? "Gold" is trying very hard to follow the footsteps of "Radioactive"; which I hated, so I'll pass on it too. BTW, I could see them remixing that and adding some x rapper in there, so I hate it even more.

Also, "Budapest" despite its mediocrity has been on the path towards being a huge alternative hit in Canada since BEFORE "I Bet My Life" came out.

Cody
That song has been riding the wave of its own hype since it came out. It hit number 1, but as you can see ;had no staying power. I don't know how big George Ezra was in Canada prior to "Budapest", but if he is a newcommer to Alt and knocks out a band that had the number one song on numerous charts for 2013; then by those standards alone, id say "I Bet My Life" can go down as "unsuccessful". Going to number one doesn't nessesarly mean your song was successful nor memorable. As many have stated I think "Night Visions" was Imagine Dragons' high point. All they can look forward to is hoping that Hot AC 7 Triple A charts saves a place for them on thier lists, cuz I don't see mainstream Pop falling head over heals for this song either?

Ah, so "Dangerous" and " I Wanna Get Better" are also duds because they only spent 1 week at #1 and had no staying power.

Cody you are completely missing the point. Those two songs are huge because they are first time efforts for the bands. Not only that, but both had and still have; in "Dangerous" case, long staying power. They also both held down positions 3 and 2 for numerous weeks before climbing to number 1. Imagine Dragons; if you wanna concider them an Alt chart favourite, should not only be performing much better , but should at least have already surpassed a much older and played out song like "Stolen Dance". Not only that, but it should also be slaying the mainstream Pop charts simultaneously. Didn't "Radio Active" spend about 80 or so weeks on the Hot 100? Pop radio ;untill now, seems to be completely oblivious of their new single. It also isn't causing any panic on the Hot Ac charts. Its also already spilaring downwards on Triple A charts as well. I don';t know if you are a big fan of the song, but the fact is; it isn't a very good sophmore effort by Imagine Dragons' status standards. Even if it would knock out the Foos from number 1 on Alt , it still wouldn't mean much at this point of the song's chart life.

You're saying that a lead single from a successful band's follow up to a huge album is a dud because it only spent 1 week on top. In that case, Survivalism by NIN and Sing by My Chemical Romance are 'duds' as well. And besides this is the Canadian.alternative chart. Foo Fighters only spent 2 weeks at #1 because of the likes of Alt-J and Milky Chance, so "Something From Nothing' must be a dud too. The reality is this. It's top 5 on alternative and top 20 on Hot AC and still rising nicely on both. It's a hit whether you like the song or not. Whether or not a song is a hit DOES NOT depend on it's relative success compared to previous hits.

Cody We are jumping the gun. It hasn't gone to number one on any U.S. music chart as of now. My initial comment was geared towards its canadian chart showing, where it easily got knocked out by New commer ; George Ezra's "Budapest". I will, however stick by my belief that this will not be one of their most memorable songs, as their career continues.

I think the real sin is that this is a no-show on Active despite "Radioactive" and "Demons" being Top 20 hits, amirite?

I don't know what your opinions will be, but I wasn't impressed with this new song "Gold" much either. I've just listened to this now and first things first: whose idea was it to add that random badly cut-off voice repeating in the background from 0:02 and onwards throughout the song? I'm assuming it's the same person responsible for that similar screeching in "I Bet My Life" because goddamn, is it grating. Otherwise, the track isn't much of a divergence from their usual bombastic production and cliched lyrics - not really impressed with it either.

I enjoyed all of the singles from Night Visions, but, my god, the two songs they've released from this album have both been awful.

I see this era being similar to Foster the People.

I'm not so sure about that. While this clearly won't be as big as the Night Visions era, they had multiple hits and multiple Pop crossovers, whereas FtP only had one massive hit. I think the second single will easily hit Top 10 (which Best Friend couldn't do), and the third will chart (which AYWYWTB couldn't do). It will be a step down, but not that big of a step.

I think this era will do better than everyone seems to think, then their third album, 'All The Wrong Reasons" will be huge with like 7 singles, and they'll officially grab the "most hated band in the world" tag.

I'm surprised it took this long to hit CHR, honestly. The way Radioactive and Demons performed I would have thought anything would have pushed them there.
