Debuted that high based on name...I thought that was the kind of thing you live for Yes, but it's only 19 on M4b. I'm actually a bit confused by that. How exactly is its Billboard debut higher than its Mediabase position?

What I'm confused about is how exactly it got to #14I mean on Mediabase, 14-19 looks like this: 9 14 WEEZER Back To The Shack 1096 1638 -542 3.887 17 15 ARCTIC MONKEYS R U Mine? 981 894 87 2.718 18 16 FITZ & THE TANTRUMS Fools Gold 958 874 84 2.949 15 17 BLEACHERS Rollercoaster 934 906 28 2.375 20 18 WALK THE MOON Shut Up And Dance 903 803 100 3.13 293 19 IMAGINE DRAGONS I Bet My Life 898 6 892 4.698 Less than 100 spins separate #15 from #19, and the panel differences would make a #15 debut seem reasonable, but how in the hell did it get up to #14, where it's separated by over 200 spins on mediabase.

Normally it's the other way around, but I'm guessing that since most of the spins were because of a paid deal, they paid some Billboard-only stations. Nah, no way that this is a paid deal (hell, it hasn't even gone for adds yet - plus why would they need to do that for a huge alternative name like Imagine Dragons?). Most of the Billboard-only stations which I've taken note of are more AAA/active leaning, so that adds to the doubtfulness of that. There's generally a 150-200 or so margin between Mediabase and Billboard spin counts for most songs in the upper region. And right now on Mediabase most of the songs from 11-20 are separated from each other by 50 or so spins, so it'll be had to predict how they'll end up getting ranked on the official Billboard chart. ID getting a higher Billboard debut is more likely a case of several of the songs which are above it on Mediabase having a significant number of spins from stations which are too low-ranked in audience for Nielsen to consider them as "major-market stations" for inclusion in the Billboard panel.

I love it. I realize everyone wants another "Radioactive", but I fully expected something more similar stylistically to "It's Time", and that's what we got. This is VERY good. I don't want another "Radioactive" as much as I'd like a song that brings what "Radioactive", and "It's Time" brought to the party, by being a track that stood out. Those tracks were both clearly unique to the climate in which they charted; both of those would have been top 5's for me. Unfortunately I didn't get any of that feeling at all when listening to their Night Visions record. The two 'good' singles had already been hammered into our brains with brute force, "Demons" bored me to death, "On Top of the World" offended me in all its poppily fluff, and so did all the other songs that sounded similar. Plus they have have knockoffs and other generally similar sounding acts sharing the scene with them now. So, the timing is right for a new record, though I'm clearly just a little bit biased to one side at this time. I heard it once last night and don't remember much about it, but I don't remember it sounding bad. Is there ever any chance of a highly anticipated top 20 debut to become a grower? It's hard to make it work that way, since we're about to be slammed with this song. I will say that the past hit that I'm least likely to change the station on is "It's Time" and it's probably the trump card in their hand, so it's best that they go that route.

I'm a little conflicted. My impression after a week or so is that this is pretty good, but then I think after how great I thought Night Visions was, "pretty good" shouldn't cut it. It reminds me a bit of "It's Time," but that chorus - I'm just afraid it could get tiring very quickly once this gets kicked into high rotation across the board. I hope I'm wrong.
While everyone is looking for another "It's Time" or "Radioactive," I'm more hoping the new record has another "Tiptoe" or "Hear Me." I thought those two, along with "Amsterdam," were their best non-singles, the perfect songs to listen to while half-drunk taking the subway or bus home at night. If there are any songs like that, hopefully they'll see the light of day as singles this time around.

Yeah this has grown on me to the point where I like it a lot now. The chorus is soo catchy, even though it's so simple. My only complaint is those damn screeches in the back. I tend to focus on those more because they're so noticeable lol. I wonder what possessed them to put that in there. Probably those demons came out from hiding.

I like the verses, but fuck it, that chorus makes me want to shoot those screeching banshees that are squealing ALL THE DAMN TIME.

This song doesn't seem to know whether or not it wants to be a big alternative hit.

So, looks like this might knock off Foo. That said, my biggest complaint about this song is that it waits until THE END to lay down an absolutely sick guitar solo. Like, seriously, couldn't that have been placed somewhere in the middle?

Gold is out as a buzz single. It's horrible. Verses and choruses sound, like 2 diff songs, and it's so boring as well

I'm sorry , but this song doesn't deserve its Top 5 status on Alt chart. It's because it carries the name; Imagine Dragons, but had they released the song under another alias, it would've flop and that's that.

I've been saying for over a year that these guys would become the new Nickelback in terms of hate, looks like it's starting a bit faster than expected ;)

As much as I didn't want to believe it, I had that lingering thought that "Night Visions" would be lightning only striking once. If they continue down this path of mediocrity, they'll be as hated as Nickelback.

I've thought they were overrated since "Radioactive" blew up, and have had an increasingly hard time taking them seriously as an "indie" act. But I can't see myself ever disliking them as much as Nickelback.

I've been saying for over a year that these guys would become the new Nickelback in terms of hate, looks like it's starting a bit faster than expected ;) It's odd because I don't really see what they've done to garner that level of hate yet a bunch of people seem to really detest them. But I guess all of the Nickelback fans probably felt the same way once their beloved band was given that title. I'm just seeing the conversion from the beginning this time rather than looking back and wondering how it happened.

Huh, didn't know these guys were garnering massive amounts of hate lol. I'd be surprised if they reached the hatred level of Nickelback (which I still think isn't justified).

I don't think anyone hates Imagine Dragons for their success. I think it's because this song to many is overrated and doesn't deserve to do so well.

Unpopular opinion alert: I also like "Gold" quite a bit. It sounds like a good album track, and I highly doubt it'll be a single anyways.

I don't think anyone hates Imagine Dragons for their success. I think it's because this song to many is overrated and doesn't deserve to do so well. Success always has alot to do with it IMO. There's a reason why Nickelback, 3 Doors Down, Maroon 5, Fall Out Boy, and MB20 were among the most hated bands in the world throughout the 00s. Young pop music fans hate sappy love ballads, and rock fans get jealous because they think their favourite bands deserve the mainstream success instead. In Imagine Dragons' case, they write songs about fighting inner battles and wanting to better themselves instead of love songs, but young pop fans hate that just as much as the rock love ballads of the 00s. They don't want deep lyrics, they want songs about "living the dream", partying, dancing, teen romance, breakups, etc. And the jealousy is from fans of other alt/indie bands who think their favourite bands are better and deserved the massive cross-format success Imagine Dragons got. It's pretty much a modern version of the first half of this post.
