Personally, I can listen to Christmas Music any day of the year. For my internet radio station I always start November 1. I'm ok with the stations that start in October, however I cannot stand the iHeartMedia stations and their playlists that are limited and on loop and seem to never shuffle their songs (the same can be said about their regular playlists). I find CBS Radio and Cumulus stations tend to be better with their variety as of course independent station owners, but they always start later. Whats your take?

I think after Thanksgiving is a good time to start, but I don't really pay attention to the stations that play before then.

If you're just listening to music on your headphones or whatever, who cares what you're listening to and when?

Technically, there's nothing stopping anyone from listening to Christmas music at any point in the year, but I personally don't put it back onto my iPod until after Thanksgiving unless I'm oddly craving it beforehand (like last year when Kelly released her Christmas album).

Thanksgiving morning is when I'll let the floodgates open up on me with Christmas music. Before that day I usually stay clear of it since I have it in my mind that the shine will be taken off of Christmas music if I hear it before Turkey Day.
Many people enjoy it (as do I, in fact I love Christmas music) and if they wish to hear it year round then that's fine. But for me I usually only listen to it from Thanksgiving to Christmas.

The worst is right after Halloween is when some places put on Christmas music early. But the best time for Christmas music is right around Thanksgiving time.

I listen to "All I Want For Christmas is You" mid-April and I don't even care.

With the start of December. I'm not American, so Thanksgiving really doesn't matter to me. The start of Advent time is more important. Also, here we have three good men bringing presents to children: St. Nicholas (Dec 6th), Santa Claus (Dec 25th) and Grandfather Frost (Dec 31st/Jan 1st). Christmas time ends with the Three Holy Kings (The Epiphany) on Jan 6th.
I always try not to start listening to Christmas music too early so I don't get tired of it before Christmas.

Up until recently I couldn't listen to it outside of December, but for the past couple of years I've realized I started listening to it as soon as it got colder basically... but I mean, more in the form of listening to the odd Christmas song snuck into my on-shuffle playlists. By the time December rolls in, however, it's basically all I listen to. I love Christmas music (IMO when it's good, it's really good), so I try to listen to it as much as I can in December because I can't/don't really feel like listening to it for the rest of the year.

I always start listening to Christmas music the third Monday of November. So I started listening the day before yesterday. Don't ask me why, I've been doing this for several years. But I don't listen to Christmas music early if I'm not in the right mood yet.

Christmas shouldn't start until the Monday after Thanksgiving, or ideally December 1st. Here the decorations came out the day after Halloween!!!! What is that?
As for the actual question, I don't listen to Xmas music of my own free will until Xmas eve. Much more special that way.
I'm assuming there's some business reason why it happens earlier every year, but I really don't get it.

I'm assuming there's some business reason why it happens earlier every year, but I really don't get it. Money. More time to sell Christmas crap and presents to everyone. People buy more Christmas crap when they have music and decorations to make them feel in the mood so we just bump it up earlier and earlier. I have started to see stuff even before Halloween. I hold off until Thanksgiving. It feels less special to me when Christmas is three months long starting before its even cold.

In terms of playing Christmas music on my own, I'll usually start listening to the occasional Christmas song in early November just to get myself in the mood. I find that if I've had a long day or feel stressed, a Christmas song or two can be just what I need to cheer me up since it reminds me that the holidays will be here before too long.
In terms of radio stations playing only Christmas music, that should never be happening before Thanksgiving. If I was a radio PD at an AC station, I'd probably start adding a few Christmas songs into the mix in mid to late November and then gradually increase their representation to around 50% until midnight on Christmas Eve, when non-stop Christmas music would play through the end of Christmas day.

But does hearing Christmas music November 1 really make anyone buy anything they wouldn't have bought later? I'm sure they've done lots of studies on this and the answer is yes, I'm just still skeptical.

not till after Thanksgiving unless it is a new release this year . this has been a good year so far with new releases by Meghan Trainor, Fifth Harmony and next week Ariana Grande.

I normally subscribe to the 'After Thanksgiving' notion but this year for some reason the spirit hit me early. I started today. Radio stations, I think it starts sounding good after Thanksgiving too.
