Truly can’t make any sense out of this. Didn’t people like Malibu? It felt like the era just completely fell apart after that.
Miley is a huge star regardless and will be fine. Hopefully her next musical output will gain more traction.

Her TOTAL sales are 50K? Like, what the hell. I mean, we typically ring the flop bell when a pop star sells 200-300K-I am not even sure what to call a 50K seller lol.
I am just baffled by the level of flop. Malibu was a decently sized hit, she promoted the cd, I would have assumed just casual fans would buy enough to get her higher than those total sales.

This has nothing to do with what's being discussed but WHAT is going on here:
I see this meme everywhere. Every time she says, "they tried to kill yo famous, yo favorite bitch" I start dying.

LMAO I had never seen that video before Looking at some of the Bangerz tour outfits...like, I have zero qualms about showing your body if you want to, but the cut of some of her outfits make me cringe. www.youtube.com/watch?v=KphYJa2mDAgIt looks so uncomfortable and like I would be picking wedgies every five seconds Ok watching her tour vids has been an adventure www.youtube.com/watch?v=shh8TYbS09E

To be fair I think the standards for sales needs to be lowered at this point. I still find Miley’s numbers tragic, but I consider 150k these days still having some relevance. Anything below that for an established pop star is a flop to me

Anything below that for an established pop star is a flop to me That is kind of my point though. Like, even lowering expectations again (200-300K is already very, very lowered expectations from even a few years ago) her numbers are still really horrible. Like, really, really disastrous. It is hard for me to spin this as not that bad and I am confused why because even if this era wasn't meant to be a smash, I also don't think it was meant to be a bomb either. She doesn't seem bothered though. I mean, she is rich enough that it doesn't really matter lol.

So shocked by the low album sales. Maybe Malibu should have been her Crying In The Club and they should have gone back to the drawing board instead of putting the album out? Younger Now is amazing though.
I guess we're not getting any more singles?

I think "Malibu" was beautiful and perfect. I'm glad it was the first single. I'm not sure where the missteps went from there.

Well, she said she didn't want to release any more singles from the album, and the timing of the album release also felt off. "Malibu" had long since peaked or at least had been out for awhile, and they didn't seem to be promoting "Younger Now" much as a single either. Did it get a push at radio at all? She just flew so far under the radar, and she also chose an incredibly crowded week to release her album and ended up losing out to Shania and Demi that the general public wasn't even that aware the album came out. Just seems like a mess of a promotion strategy.

I just realized she already has 4 singles ("See You Again", "The Climb", "Party in the U.S.A." and "Malibu") that missed the top 10 by peaking at #11 in the UK. I want to call that an achievement.

Malibu was a great song, and it did reasonably well, but they should have gone back to the studio after it peaked quickly and left the charts. It didn't perform strongly enough to start an era.
Also, considering how much Urban-leaning material dominates streaming, this new sound wasn't probably the best move for her chart-wise. I'm glad she did it though, and she seems to be on a much better place now than during Bangerz.

The vomit album and Younger Now aren't really what I expected from her after Bangerz. She's really talented but it's like she's trying to sabotage her own career.

As far as her sales go, I'm not surprised. While her personality definitely grew on me since she joined The Voice, the only album of hers I have is the last one, and I only took a chance on it because of "Wrecking Ball." Outside that song and "We Can't Stop"/"Adore You," the album is complete garbage and I regret buying it.
Although I'm pretty meh on "Malibu," I do like "Younger Now" and her general sound this era, but I didn't buy the album because I already wasted money once. I'll get it when it's marked down to $4-5.

The album actually ended up growing on me a lot, but it's still far below the quality of what I've come to expect from her. Not to mention nothing else on the album lives up to "Malibu"'s excellent vibe and story telling lyrics except "Love Someone." This entire era was just a huge mess too. We didn't even get any information about the album until "Malibu" had fallen off the charts.
IMO, the era could have performed better (not great, just better) had it been handled like this:
May - Malibu single release with video June - Inspired released as a pre-order track, album goes to pre-order, some Malibu performances and promo July - Younger Now released as a third and final pre-order track, some more Malibu performances August - Younger Now, the album, releases with a lot of televised appearances performing Malibu, Inspired, Younger Now, and second single, Love Someone September - Love Someone single release, video premiere on The Voice October - Rainbowland released to country radio, talk show appearances and performances of both Love Someone and Rainbowland November - Love Someone AMA performance, lots of promo from The Voice December - pretty much quiet until NYE where she performs Love Someone and Malibu, announced third single Thinkin' January - Thinkin' single release with video, some TV slots to perform it February - Week Without You released to country radio March - quiet month April - Bad Mood single release with video May - BBMAs Bad Mood performance to wrap-up the era

Am I the only one who feels that DEAD PETZ was a better album than YN?

YN may have been a commercial (and some say, critical) bust, but it did wipe away a lot of the 'crud' that was associated with the Bangerz-era. It's not like MC is going away -she's only 25(!), but it would probably be smart to issue a new project this year.

For no real reason at all other than sheer boredom, here's how many plays (and the % increase) each YN track has received over the past two days on Spotify:

IMO YN was a pretty good album It definitely could have been shortened by 3-4 songs
Very cohesive work with a sound that suits her voice Thinkin, Bad Mood, Younger Now, Malibu, & Love Someone are some really strong songs
I'm completely shocked though at how poorly the album has done, like it's apalling I guess the lack of mainstream sound hurt the album, but I'm confused even more since Miley still is pretty relevant in the public eye and did a lot of promo.

Love Someone and Malibu really are major highlights in her career quality wise even if the album as a whole is lackluster.

I wonder what her next steps are? If I were her, I would be gearing up for a fall release.

Has this been discussed already? People Mag: Is there a female power anthem headed our way? Fans were sent into a tizzy on Wednesday after Taylor Swift was spotted spending several hours at a New York City recording studio that Miley Cyrus and Lady Gaga have also recently visited.Taylor Miley Gaga Collab?
