What's really odd (and it might just be where I am) is that I've only heard this song TWICE total. And I often switch between a large market station, a medium market station and a very small market. Sometimes I tune into the Highway and if I'm not behind a big hill I can get Nash New York. Out of all those stations, to only hear a top 30 song twice is kind of odd to me considering how often I hear the rest of them. Could be coincidence I suppose. When I did hear it, I didn't really care much for it. Shallow lyrica and shallow subject. I've actually heard this quite a bit already on both The Highway and WYRK. It could just be a coincidence or that I'm in my car more than others, but I've heard this boring song far too often already.

I had to wake up pretty early for a test at school this morning so I was already pretty tired, but on my drive I heard this for the first time and I almost fell asleep at the wheel. Wow this song was generic and boring and cliché and a tad creepy.

I disliked this more at first than I do now... I've become much more tolerant of it. The song might not be great, but Michael Ray's voice is the real deal. I always knew it because of the "23rd Psalm" video that was posted on the first page. I have found a studio recording of it and it's a lovely song. He has an album's worth of studio recorded songs on his Reverbnation page. Upon first listen, I liked most of what I heard and it proved to me that with the right material, I'll definitely be a fan of his. www.reverbnation.com/michaelraymuzik/songs

I hear "Say You Do" all the time and I love it. Even when I was home for spring break (and this was when SYD was just entering the top 10), I heard it all the time. I haven't heard "Kiss You In The Morning" much on the radio despite the guys at KNIX hyping Michael up to be the 'next big thing' when this was released and when he was chosen as the OTV artist. With that said, sales for KYITM have picked up considerably--it's now selling on par with singles from Kenny Chesney, Tim McGraw, Eric Paslay, and Brantley Gilbert, as well as Luke Bryan's non-single "Games". It's ahead of Brad Paisley, and easily ahead of Warner label-mates Frankie Ballard and Gloriana. So, perhaps this will be a hit after all. I was thinking low sales might hold it back, similar to what we saw with Chase Bryant's "Take It On Back", but Michael is starting to really pick up the pace now and I can see this one eventually peaking at or close to #1. My initial prediction was that this one would fizzle out either just before or just after entering the top 10, and I'll definitely be fine with that as I'm not really a fan of this song, but it now seems like it'll do better.

Wow this song was generic and boring and cliché and a tad creepy. ...how is it creepy? Personally, I think the lines "You got me hanging on tight to your curves like little E races (is that the right lyric? that's what it said on a lyric site)" and "When you drop it down low, touch your toes girl, you know you just showin' off, that little tattoo on your tan line, oh my, pretty little butterfly what else have you got to hide" come off as a little creepy. That second line especially just sounds like a guy leering at a girl. I understand the song implies that the guy and girl are dating, but the woman is completely objectified in the song. Michael Ray talks about her jeans, curves, funky backbeat?, little butterfly tattoo, and of course all her kisses. The only somewhat non-objectifying line is "Oh you little outlaw stealing my heart and all" but it's weak.

^Yes, you got the lyrics correct, zjames. "Little E" is a reference to Dale Earnhardt, Jr.

I still think this song is a utter borefest and I can't change the dial fast enough if it comes on.

The only somewhat non-objectifying line is "Oh you little outlaw stealing my heart and all" but it's weak. Agreed. And I am under the impression that by "baby let me hear you say oh, oh" followed by "then I wanna kiss you in the morning" is his way of saying, "hey I wanna make love and then still kiss you tomorrow, so I totally don't wanna hit it and quit it. Romantic right?" In which case, I could think of a million better ways to say it more romantically. This is country music, people. For God's sake, let's have a little creativity. I get it that every now and then people get *down* but what happened to "baby fall into my kiss/it should just happen like this" or "I'd like to kiss you way back in the sticks/I'd like to check you for ticks"...this song IS just creepy and unflattering. Gosh, even as Eric Church said--if you wanna make a song about sex, then just talk about sex. But hell, do it romantically or poetically or at least be cheeky. I could have written this song when I was 15 or when I was 21 and drunk. Not to mention that the latter condition probably would have produced something musically superior to this.

I know the likability of a music video is subjective (just like the music itself), but that video was God awful. Why did there need to be a gigantic crowd cheering him on during this song?
I didn't like the song to begin with and that video certainly didn't help.

I want to hate this but I just... don't. I don't particularly like it though either; it's just kinda... there. I find it catchy enough that I don't mind it on the radio from time to time, but I admit that the lyrics are pretty bad. I must say though that this guy is just gorgeous to me. That music video only confirmed it further. I wouldn't mind it if he kissed me in the morning. Or anytime, really, haha.

Although not for the same reasons as indulge, I also enjoyed the video. The crowd season was cool to me, especially the old lady in the front haha

Also his voice is actually really good, I hope he has some good songs on eventual album cause I think he could knock some great songs out with his voice. I think I'd love to hear him do something like Josh Turner's "Your Man".

Yeah I don't hate this one either. It's nothing legendary, and probably won't be remembered 2 years later, but it's decent for what it is. The sales have picked up well too, so it's actually looking like OTV didn't blow it with this selection. I'm not saying there weren't better options, but it seems like this song is catching on well now. I'd say it's a dark horse candidate for #1 maybe sometime in August.

Yeah, it was slowing down on radio and sales weren't anything to exactly write home about, but it has definitely picked up in both areas and I can now see it going the distance and getting to the top or very close to it.

"Kiss You In The Morning" becomes Michael Ray's first career top 10 single this week as it lands at #10 on MB this week. It should crack the Billboard top 10 tomorrow. It gained nearly 300 spins and 3.0 million in audience this week in the process. I could really tell that this song was being converted into heavier rotation as I listened to a lot of WYRK this particular weekend and I heard this a few times, and way more than usual on their station. Not that I heard any of them the whole way through as I turned the station every time, lol. When I first heard this song, and even when it was first selected as the "On The Verge" single, I just didn't care for it - it was just generic and boring. Gradually as time as gone on though, I now find this song to be edging on unbearable. I don't enjoy the production and I the lyrics are really bad. The line that zjames pointed out a few weeks back is particular awful; "that little tattoo on your tan line, oh my, pretty little butterfly, what else have you got to hide?"
The song just comes off sleazy to me. I know Michael Ray isn't sleazy. I know the song isn't trying to be sleazy, but I am really turned off by this song personally, in almost every way imaginable. Ray's voice is pretty decent and I've seen him interviewed and he comes off as a great individual, but his debut single is quickly climbing on my year end least favorites list.

For anyone who follows Grady Smith on Twitter, the album tracklist for Michael Ray was released. Apparently, the one track, "Real Men Love Jesus" is the male equivalent of "God Made Girls". One was enough

I'm impressed you guys don't find him sleazy because honestly his material feels even grosser than some of Cole Swindell's platitudes... "Think A Little Less" offends me as a woman, and the song Grady tweeted about offends me as someone who thinks being 'masculine' shouldn't mean just loving fishing/other stereotypical, normative things. Michael as a person is a nice guy, but to me, whoever is leading the charge on picking his songs is, to borrow from Jimmy Kimmel, making it vomitous.

I actually wanted "Everything in Between" to be the next single cause it sounds very traditional.

This has quickly become one of my favorite country love songs; I can listen to this song all day long. If this is any indication of what's to come on his debut album, he will have a very successful career as an artist. I really, really hope they decide to release "Everything In Between" as a single at some point.

One was enough "God Made Girls" is atrocious. I'm not sure though if it's the song itself, or if it's because I intensely loathe RaeLynn's voice. "Real Men Love Jesus" on the other hand is actually really good, as is "Another Girl" and "Everything In Between". I will definitely be listening to this album in full once it's released. I remember liking what I heard on his Reverbnation, but I'll need to go back and re-listen to them. He's shown that he can do much better than "Kiss You In The Morning"

With all the negative feedback on here (and my indifference to this song) I did not expect much from his album and almost passed on previewing the songs, but I'm glad I didn't because it is suprisingly really good. The 6-7 songs I got off it have been in much heavier rotation on my playlists than Luke's today and I imagine that trend will continue. "Wish I Was Here", "Somewhere South", and "Real Mean Love Jesus" make me think he could be a pretty good addition to the genre. He also wrote "Drivin' All Night" (Jake Owen) and "Run Away With You" (Big & Rich) which are on the album.

Even if you hate "Kiss You In The Morning", I would recommend checking his album out anyway. He's a great singer and the album is very good. I never got too excited about Big & Rich's "Run Away With You" but I have to say that I really, really like Michael's. There's less production, the melody is clearer, and it's much better suited to his voice. All the songs Kentucky25 mentioned are amongst the strongest on the album. "This Love" was also really great. Probably my favorite on the record, but time will tell. I definitely plan to keep listening to this album and I'm pretty sure I will end up buying it. Oh, and "Livin' It Up" is actually an Emerson Drive song. Michael did good with it, but I think E-Drive's is much better.
