This may indirectly confirm that there's no new album this year if it's true. This should have gone in place of OOTW, but I'm assuming that this decision was made recently after that underperformed. If it was sent 6th, I'd say it'd get top 5 on CHR at least and most likely top 10 on the Hot 100 too. Now I'm not so sure. A Grammy performance of this would have been good, but they're not to blame if they thought they had more time to salvage OOTW; CHR passed on it faster than pretty much everyone expected. If she does a video for this and its released once there's some airplay, it could make for a good Hot 100 peak.

This is a cool song, kind of surprising they're doing another single but it's the best choice left on 1989.

I would think this means there wont be the usual T-Swift album this October? If there was going to be, I assume they would want to pull back for a second.

I think even if they weren't releasing a 7th single, it'd be too soon for another album from her. She's been saturated and she normally disappears for awhile before an album. I love this song and wish it had been released instead of OOTW (though I wanted OOTW to be a single too). Maybe this will be fresh enough for the public if the sales of the non-Target edition were big enough that most haven't heard this.

Wow, I'm surprised they're going seven singles considering how Out Of The Woods underperformed. I can't really see this do much better than OOTW but we'll see...
Also, has this even been 100% confirmed by Taylor or her label? Kinda weird this is being announced right after she performed OOTW at the Grammys.

I'm also very surprised they're going 7 singles deep and releasing New Romantics. I do like the song, and I hope it will perform well. I hope so because 7 singles could be considered too much. I'm a fan of Taylor and 1989 and I never get tired of hearing her.

With "Out of the Woods" severely underperforming and being a sixth single already, I would say this would be a moronic decision even with the recent Grammy win, but the fact that this was only on the Target exclusive edition and recently released to iTunes not too long ago is actually a smart decision. Not as many people are going to know about this from the CD considering most album sales nowadays drive from iTunes. This isn't even on the iTunes album now, and rather available as a standalone release. Also, with a new album likely not coming till Q3 of 2017, it's not a bad idea to keep her in radio's head.
The only two things that this might have going against it is not much radio momentum from "Out of the Woods" flopping and overexposure for Taylor.

She needs a stronger video for this one to work out. OOTW's was cute and everything but it didn't build any hype (Same could actually be said about Style).

Count me in among those surprised there's another single but also that there's one so soon. It's like they're not even going to pretend OOTW was a thing.

I'm here for this after my new found love for it. Preferably "I Know Places" would be in it's place on my totem pole of 1989 singles but this is a fun uptempo jam that I could see being a big last hurrah for this album. With it being a Deluxe Edition track I can see the download numbers being bigger than OOTW since that is available on the standard. Please no remix Tay Tay, this is good in it's original form unlike "Basic Blood."

Nice choice! Personally I want "I Know Places" but if OOTW did what it did, IKP will probably perform similarly/worse.
Heading into the spring this will be a nice song to jam to.

She really went for it. Great single choice, I'm still a bit worried that it'll not perform that well because the gp is getting sick of her. I believe that it's going to perform much better than OOTW which was a promo single, not just for the album Release but actually for the whole 1989 era. Hopefully top 20 or even top 10.

What's the last album to go seven singles deep on pop radio without a re release ? I don't know honestly, but if we were to include those re-released, it's most likely "Teenage Dream."

What's the last album to go seven singles deep on pop radio without a re release ? Honestly, the last one I can think of is Michael Jackson's Dangerous. The singles peaked on CHR as follows: Black or White - #1 Remember The Time - #1 In The Closet - #2 Jam - #9 Heal The World - #20 Who Is It - #4 Will You Be There - #5 Will You Be There also doubled for Free Willy, but it was the same track as on the album. The title track was planned for the 8th single as well, but was scrapped once the allegations surfaced. I can't think of one after that. Janet's 1993 album did 6.

I think it's exciting that Taylor is releasing another single from 1989. I do think it's quite soon after releasing OOTW, but that song didn't really make enough of an impact to get in the way of a new single release. This is probably the only song left on the album, standard or deluxe, that has a shot at being a hit. I don't see a megasmash in the making, but I do see this performing better than OOTW and hopefully keeping the album going for another few months. Whilst I don't imagine this is going to give a massive boost to the album (especially considering it's not even on the standard edition), it could do enough to help further the legacy this album has created. 1989 really has been the biggest era of her career both in the US (sorry Fearless) and internationally, so it does kind of make sense for her to prolong what could end up being her creative and commercial peak. (I hope it's not though!)

This would have been a better follow-up to "Wildest Dreams". I can see it being another hit for her... and the iTunes performance post-announcement is a good sign.

At this point, why the hell not? The album is still selling well. This could easily smash or underperform like OOTW did. But she has nothing left to prove, so go for it.
