New Albums: Carrie Underwood - Storyteller on October 23 Wow, less than nine weeks -- that's a pretty short window, even for someone like Carrie. Her single will certainly be in the top 10 by then though. I was thinking a early to mid November release date but the first month in Q4 is something I would have wanted if I was Arista/Sony as well.

Steve Martin and Edie Brickell will release their second studio album "So Familiar," on Rounder Records on Oct. 30. Produced by Peter Asher, the album features 12 new songs. "So Familiar" is the follow-up to 2013's "Love Has Come for You," which won the Grammy for Best American Roots Song and also inspired their new musical "Bright Star. The show, which was originally staged last year at the Old Globe Theater in San Diego, will open at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. on Dec. 17 to be followed by a Broadway premiere in 2016. Martin and Brickell toured together, which led to "LIVE: Steve Martin and Steep Canyon Rangers featuring Edie Brickell" coming out last year. "I guess that this is the logical sequel to the first album, but it's also different in a lot of ways," Martin said. "It sounds bigger and wider, and it has a lush feeling that I really like. I think that Edie's voice sounds beautiful with these arrangements, and I love the way the banjo sounds with strings. Peter really had a vision for this record, and he really came up with some wonderful things." "What Peter did was so beautiful," said Brickell. "He has a great musical imagination, and he always surprises us. I'm so impressed by his ability to come up with things that feel grand and intimate at the same time. Peter has a reallygreat ability to create something majestic and incorporate that into a traditional-sounding song." Béla Fleck, who is featured on "Heart of the Dreamer," bassist Leland Sklar, Cobra Starship's Victoria Asher, Mike Einziger of Incubus, film composer/arranger Geoff Zanelli and Martin's longtime bluegrass cohorts the Steep Canyon Rangers all help out. "So Familiar" will include two exclusive bonus tracks when fans order at Barnes & Noble. Fans ordering there before Nov. 8 will automatically be entered into a drawing for a one-of-a-kind handwritten signed lyric book, a signed specialty screen printed banjo head & Deering banjo as well as a pair of tickets to opening night of "Bright Star" in Washington.

Artist: Shooter Jennings Album: Countach (for Giorgio) Label: Black Country Rock Release date: Fall 2015
The project according to Shooter: "The truth about Countach (for Giorgio), my EP coming later this year that is a tribute to Giorgio Moroder, is that it wouldn't exist if Daft Punk had not included Giorgio on their latest album. As a kid Giorgio shaped my life without knowing it. Producing and composing some of the most influential works in the culture of the 70's and 80's, he defined a sound that was so copied and imitated that the mainstream became saturated with it. This sound was something I always just assumed was the sound of the 80's. From "The Neverending Story" and "Top Gun" to "Cat People" and "Chase" (From the Midnight Express soundtrack which also doubled as the theme song for Art Bell's 'Coast-to-Coast AM'), these songs penetrated my head and influenced my sound. I loved the use of the DX7 synthesizers and the drum machines. It wasn't so much the instruments, it was his choices."
"Once I heard Random Access Memories, I Googled Giorgio and connected all those dots. Along the line, I had never realized that one man was responsible for so much music that I loved. I quickly became an avid fan of his solo records, and one day as I was working on my tribute EP for George Jones, it hit me that I should also do one to Giorgio. It just seemed like a perfect idea. So I began recording the album. I began to tie the two albums together, using DX7s and Linn Drums for the George record, and using more traditional country instruments for the Giorgio record. Taking the opposite approaches for the appropriate sound made it fun, challenging, and allowed for some great new ideas to come to life."
"I'm very proud of the Giorgio EP and I can't wait for folks to hear it. n the meantime, I'm very excited to share "I'm Left, You're Right, She's Gone" with the world and hope maybe it'll reach Giorgio someday and I'll get to have a conversation with him. Then he can file a restraining order on me."

1. "Fire" 2. "You Can't Stop Me" 3. "Lose My Mind" 4. "Wanna Be That Song" 5. "Time Well Spent" 6. "If You Were My Girl" 7. "Illinois" 8. "Just A Taste" 9. "Drunk On Your Love" 10. "Lose It All" 11. "Shadow" 12. "Going Away For A While"
Some of these tracks sound...out there. I think the "Raymond" Brett Eldredge was an aberration.

I agree, very cool and creative way to reveal and preview the tracks. There were definitely some that sounded promising ("Wanna Be That Song", "Illinois", "Lose It All"), but what the heck was up with "You Can't Stop Me" and "Shadow"? I don't like the sound of those at all and the production on some of these weren't promising either, especially "Drunk On Your Love". I'll listen to the whole album when it's finally available for streaming to give a full analysis though. I thought his preview of "Just A Taste" was funny, lol.

Yeah You Can't Stop Me and Shadow are like totally ridiculous. Other than those two, I thought it sounded pretty good.

I have to agree that "You Can't Stop Me" and "Shadow" are the most 'different' of all the tracks. Then again, these were five or six second previews of each song. I think the "Raymond" Brett that we heard a few years back isn't gone, but more label manufactured. The label is going to want something that is going to sell. A song like "Raymond" will not sell well on today's radio market. It barely did when it was released. It is a great, great song though...and, I understand the point a lot of you are trying to make. But, like I said...these were short previews. He's still TEN BILLION times better than Thomas Rhett, IMO.

I agree they were short previews but I can safely say that I know the kind of songs "You Can't Stop Me" and "Shadow" are by that preview. I understand that "Raymond" was a song that wouldn't do as well now from a newcomer on today's radio but not when you're established, which Brett is quickly becoming (it got to #22 on MB, which wasn't anything to be ashamed of; the follow-up downright bombed -- "It Ain't Gotta Be Love'). I'm not saying that Brett shouldn't be recording the likes of "Lose My Mind", "Beat Of The Music" or "Don't Ya" but don't have your entire discography made up of them. That's a problem I have with many artists right now -- the ones that are big enough to take chances on great story songs like "Raymond", don't anymore. I think that Atlantic/Warner just doesn't want to screw with Brett's mojo right now and I understand -- the business side of me seems to be my line of thinking as time goes on. But "You Can't Stop Me" and "Shadow" do not sound country in the slightest and an artist recording songs like that just five short years later from a stellar ultra-country debut single is noteworthy, at least to me anyway.

Brett has the talent, the voice, and the looks to get him far but his career won't last long if he keeps putting out bland overproduced vanilla wafers.
It's no wonder none of us like that nonsense "You Can't Stop Me" as that's the one that features FunkDaddy Thomas "Hillbilly Bruno" Rhett himself.

It's no wonder none of us like that nonsense "You Can't Stop Me" as that's the one that features FunkDaddy Thomas "Hillbilly Bruno" Rhett himself. Agreed. I thought about this a lot last night. I am still super excited for the album, but I would have to echo that he probably will only go so far if he puts out more of these types of songs. ("Fire," "Lose My Mind," "You Can't Stop Me," etc). I too think Brett is extremely talented, but a catalog's need for substance is going to be overshadowed in the coming years if we see more of this. I want more story like songs. ("Signs," "Raymond," "Go On Without Me"...etc). I think we all do. He would be so good at that, we know that. I think that Brett and his team are enjoying his streak of fame right now. I just hope that one day soon, he will go, "remember when I did a song called, Raymond? Can we please do more of that" without being afraid of losing star quality. Instead, hoping to gain song quality.

I heard "Illinois" and "Lose It All" last night and they're actually good quality COUNTRY songs, but I doubt they become singles. Hopefully the fact that they're being released ahead of the album indictates that at least one of them will be a single. Then again, we thought that about Jason Aldean and so far all 4 singles have either been atrocious or mediocre so who knows. I like Brett's voice a lot and I think he has potential but then again, so do a lot of these guys deep down, so he's not getting a pass from me if he keeps releasing generic crap.

Artist: Bart Crow Album: Parade Label: Beryn Art Records/Thirty Tigers Release date: Oct. 2, 2015
For those familiar with the Texas music charts, Bart Crow is a familiar name with a strong reputation across the alt-country, traditional country and red-dirt music circles. The road-toughened troubadour from Maypearl, TX has already put together an admirable track record as a recording artist releasing five albums in over a decade with money pulled from his own pockets. He has sold over 40,000 albums and lofted six No. 1 singles onto the Texas Music Chart – one of which, "Wear My Ring," sold over 165,000 copies. His last album, Dandelion, recorded with producer (and Pat Green drummer/co-producer/co-writer) Justin Pollard, debuted at No. 1 on Billboard's Heatseekers South Central chart.
“We had so much fun in the recording process and we were lucky with ‘Dandelion,’ and it was good for us,” said Crow. “We just had fun and became really good friends making that record.
“I think the major difference was ‘Dandelion’ was the most straightforward country record that I’ve done,” said Crow. “I think that’s the best way to describe it. I just kind of went back to being me instead of trying to find my spot in this Texas music scene."
“This time I didn’t have anybody getting in my head and messing with me,” he ads. “I allowed myself to just be an artist and write songs and be creative. We just made some really cool songs. It’s very eclectic. I hate using that word, but it is. It is an honest and true representation of me.”
Track listing: 1. “Queen of the Heartache Parade” (Jonathan Terrell / Bart Crow) 2. “Dear Music” (Bart Crow) 3. “Baby Come Back Home” (Bart Crow) 4. “Vapor Trails” (Drew Kennedy) 5. “Top of Rock Bottom” (Jonathan Terrell) 6. “One Night with You” (Derik Hultquist / Bart Crow) 7. “Here We Go Again” (Mando Saenz / Bart Crow) 8. “Life Comes at You Fast” (Bart Crow, Trent Summar, Gary Nicholson) 9. “Come Back Tomorrow” (Mando Saenz / Bart Crow) 10. “City Limit Signs” (Bart Crow) 11. “Free Like Me” (Mando Saenz / Bart Crow)

Shania: "First, I have to finish the new album this fall. Six tracks are already completed. I've written 38 songs in total, and now the process is underway to narrow that down to another six or eight to finish recording. [...] We have 2 1/2 weeks off, but my voice is sounding so strong I want to continue singing. On Wednesday, we'll start recording the remaining next album songs before resuming the tour in mid-September."

How many Christmas albums does one artist need? I'm still waiting on 1 Christmas album from Tanya Tucker and she's been around 40+ years! Also Shania's talked about one since the 90s, so maybe we'll get it by 2030? Speaking of Christmas albums I remember hearing that Reba has one already recorded on Valory that has been sitting there for years now, or that could just be a rumor.

I thought releasing holiday albums at the end of October was pushing it, Kenny's getting a full 3 months of sales on that thing this year with that September release. Wow.

Lol, I didn't read the release date of September 25th on the Kenny Rogers Christmas album when I first saw the post. What's funny is summer officially ends 3 days before that "Christmas" album drops.
