This single release took a little longer than I thought as his work for this upcoming album was announced late last Summer.
But I'm glad that Gary's back. Nearly one year away from country radio is far too long for one of the best talents in the genre.

I hope this does well. It Ain't the Whiskey should have been a top 20 hit at least, that song was really good.

BTW: Most of Gary's 90's singles including "I'll Take Today", and "Loving You Against My Will" have and will continue to be uploaded to YouTube through Vevo. Better quality.

This + the new Ashley Monroe single announcements today have made my day. I hope he can get another big hit like "Every Storm" because Gary has one of my favorite male voices.

Let's hope Clear Channel and Cumulus have forgiven Gary Allan after he called them out a year and a half ago for making country music "about a demographic." I know country radio can be particularly easily inflamed about petty "he said, she said" types of controversies and so something as direct as this could potentially make the two biggest corporations in country radio reluctant to add Gary's new single unless it's some sort of massive hit they can't overlook. I'm still not sure whether I do think this will be an issue, but it's on the table in my opinion.

I think Country radio will forgive Gary Allan for what he said. Remember Zac Brown talked about Luke Bryan's "That's My Kind Of Night" in a bad way. They definitely forgave him. They won't stop playing Gary's music over something that happened in 2013. Which is now at least two years ago.

I really do think you're right about Gary (if he has trouble getting airplay it won't be for that reason), but country radio can hold a grudge for a long time. Just ask Natalie Maines.

I hope this replicates the chart topping success Gary Allan had with Every Storm Runs Out Of Rain. If it does, he will be the 125th artist in country music history with a quintet of chart topping hits.

Cary has a rock background so knowing that, this might have a little rockin' side to it. Maybe something along the lines of "Get Off On The Pain" or "A Feelin' Like That". The four together definitely have me intrigued.

I hope this is more like every storm ( runs out of rain) and less like peices and it ain't the whiskey, both of those releases in my opinion should have stayed album tracks. Hungover heart was a great track that wasn't released that should have been.

A Gary Allan/Chris Stapleton co-write? Count me in. Cary Barlowe and Jesse Frasure may have co-written "Sun Daze", but both of them have also written some better songs and big hits too. Barlowe co-wrote Lady A's "American Honey", Dustin Lynch's "Where It's At", and Dierks Bentley's "Back Porch", as well as several of TobyMac's big Christian radio hits..."Made To Love", "Get Back Up Again", and "City On Our Knees" (which makes it seem very strange that Barlowe would be involved in a song in which Sundays are meant for getting stoned, lol).
Jesse Frasure also co-wrote a couple of tracks on Rascal Flatts' Rewind album ("DJ Tonight" and "I Like The Sound Of That", both of which were co-written with Shay Mooney of Dan + Shay as well as Meghan Trainor), "Jet Black Pontiac" from Chase Bryant's EP, "Mason Jar" from Natalie Stovall & The Drive, and several TobyMac songs as well. It seems like the two of them (Barlowe and Frasure) have started writing together more recently.

This is on the CDX #612 (one of 23 songs!). It is very, very strong and very, very Gary Allan.
"Hangover Tonight" is a metaphor for both being drunk and staying with one you love. Chris Stapleton sings harmony vocals. Producer: Gary Allan and Greg Droman.

I just heard this and I love it. Not the most unique thing lyrically but it's got that great Gary groove and classic Gary vocals. There's a live version that popped up on YouTube. Not the best quality but it'll have to do if you haven't heard any studio or live version yet. Live Version

I'd imagine radio actually is getting this tomorrow via PlayMPE since CDX has it already. Lyrics: roughstock.com/?p=32885

Some chance that this will be a top 10 -- it's hard to predict Gary's chart runs, because a lot of his songs never quite catch on at radio -- and nobody is accusing him of getting younger, which means he'll struggle even more. But I am imagining a relatively stripped-down production with the guitar harmonics being kept from the live version (thanks for posting the link) and I am imagining a decent, if not earth-shattering, chart run.
The song sounded good to me, but then I'm a big fan of his singing style. There aren't a lot of male singers I find, or ever have found, who are more convincing than Gary.

^ The song itself is perfectly fine to become a hit for Gary. It's the age factor that might start being an issue for him like you pointed out Zazie (which it shouldn't). So far Gary's been able to score hits with the first single or two from each album dating back to the 90's, but sooner or later he will have a lead single under perform - I just pray it's not soon, like now. I'm not about to predict a top 5 single here but hopefully a top 20 finish will suffice.

I usually steer clear from Live phone youtube videos but I'm more than ready for new Gary Allen music. Musically , it kind of sounds like another Stapleton cut, Josh Turners "Your Man" with a major R&B groove.Looking forward to the studio version.

I'd say Top 20 is probably a safe bet but one thing Gary's got that helps him is a 'cool factor' and there's the fact that he doesn't sound like everyone else, even on this, a song which could've easily been "Bro" given the topic and lyrics. Added: Official Cover Art:

This is pretty good, Gary sounds great as usual. It's definitely not an instant classic like Every Storm or Life Ain't Always Beautiful, but I still can't blame them for going with something safe this time around.
