This is a fine song but I'm disappointed they abandoned their original sound. Bands evolve over time but this is a jarring shift, on par with Linkin Park's "A Thousand Suns".

This also matches the #5 debut of The Offspring's "Hammerhead", back when it was released in 2008 (although that song only ended up slowly climbing to #2 to get stuck behind Weezer's "Pork and Beans"). Also, Pipa, I still hear those three songs on my Alternative station from time to time, so they haven't been erased from ALL playlists yet.

Also, Pipa, I still hear those three songs on my Alternative station from time to time, so they haven't been erased from ALL playlists yet. I guess that mostly applies to Canadian stations then, where you're most likely to hear "Somewhere I Belong", or very occasionally "Vicarious".

I thought most radio stations would also stop playing The Catalyst considering how fast it fell on the alternative charts. Also, I wished Hammerhead hit #1.

I still hear "Somewhere I Belong" semi-regularly. Can't say the same about the other two - "The Catalyst" and "Vicarious" are standard cases of lead-off singles that debuted high on momentum and probably disappeared from playlists permanently within months of dropping off the chart.

didn't "What I've Done" and R.E.M.'s "What's the Frequency, Kenneth?" debut at #1?
Also, to this day I can't decide on whether or not I actually like "The Catalyst".

This isn't a bad song, but #42 to #6 in one week is a bit unbelievable. The numbers don't lie, but I don't really understand this band's major popularity.

I get why this song is becoming as big as it is, because it's a huge-sounding song and comes from a band that has been highly successful on the format before...but I just can't seem to get into the song all that much as of right now. Maybe that will change, I don't know.

It's like The Catalyst was erased from history and the song was #1 for 4 weeks on Billboard From Tool I heard from time to time "Schism" and a good chunk of Linkin Park hits have nice airplay like Faint, In The End, What I've Done, Bleed It Out, Somewhere I Belong, Burn It Down, Waiting for the End, A Light That Never Comes, Numb, etc yet they refuse to play their latest songs, I hope their comeback will be in the line of Living Things and A Thousand Suns, if alt radio rejects them again I think they're done on that format.

This is its chart run: 39-9-3-1-1-1-3-2-2-3-8-12-13-20-28-40-OUT

"Between The Lines", KoL's "Radioactive", "Lay Me Down", and "In One Ear" were all absolutely terrible. To go along with that, "Uprising", "The Catalyst", "Tighten Up", and "This Is War" are pretty mediocre. I also disliked "Mountain Man", "Resistance", and "Back Against The Wall" for about 6 months after their releases until they finally grew on me. That leaves what? "1901", "Kings And Queens", "Little Lion Man", and "Animal" as the only true quality #1s IMO.

Honestly, IMO those are 4 of the top 5 worst BB alt #1s of the 2010s so far, with the only non-2010 one being Alex Clare's "Too Close"

The ones I really didn't like were "Mountain Man" (White Stripes ripoff), "In One Ear", and "Back Against the Wall". "Lay Me Down" was rather boring, but grew on me a little (Still not worthy of being an 11 week #1 though). "Animal" I just found way too poppy and a bit irritating IMO to be a #1 (and definitely not worthy of knocking "The Catalyst" from the top). Liked everything else enough though (although "Uprising" started getting on my nerves after like 40 weeks on the chart).
