I agree with others about this having a cool U2 vibe. The drums are still kinda Vance Joy-ee, but overall; it's a pretty decent song. 91x has been playing this one quite alot today.

I'm thinking that after 7 days this will be at #12, right below what wil be #11, "Congregation".

I don't love this, but it's way better than I Will Wait and Little Lion Man. There are much worse songs that could inevitably occupy the Top 10.

I feel like the folk sound has been beaten the death over the last couple of years, so I'm hoping that the rest of the album has a similar vibe to this song.

I should clarify that I meant that the SONG is just OK. Stylistically, the music is fine and I am not "mad" at them for abandoning their original sound. I'm looking forward to hearing more from them with this new sound.

I am disappointed by this. Sure, many of Mumford & Sons' singles got overexposed, but they still stuck to a core sound and went headfirst in it, sometimes with great results. So far, this song feels uninspired and middling. I'll give it a bit more of a chance but this is a Coldplay-style middle-of-the-road attempt to appeal to everyone by appealing to no one.

By "appealing to no one" I mean it lacks a special distinctiveness that makes someone love it. I don't know how someone could feel passionate about this song. It's inoffensive, sure, like Speed of Sound or Hanging By A Moment, ones you might not turn off if they're already on, but I don't see this rising above that level.

It's already my favourite Mumford & Sons song, and I would say I'm well on my way toward "loving it".

I guess I'm projecting my own experiences and expectations on others then, because while I understand why people enjoy many songs I dislike, I don't understand the love for this. Guess it's more of a personal hangup than I thought.

Little Lion Man blew me away the first time I heard it. I've been looking for another M&S song to do the same ever since. This may not be it, but it's damn close.

You have to shake it up, naturally evolve over time. The band seems to be aware of that. I'm all for that. If I wanted to listen to Sigh No More again, I'd listen to it. At this point, if this is the best on the album then I'll likely be disappointed but the band has two strong albums that are good listens throughout so I'm not going to judge too harshly for this one song. The song isn't bad, but I do get the Coldplay comparisons. But I don't get the dramatic criticisms over dropping the banjo. It's like some people never heard of folk music before M&S (which I'm sure is true for some) and thought they were really unique (they're not) and now that they have changed their instrumentation they have sold out (not true).
I love the band, and even though I'm so-so on the song so far I don't get all this irrational talk and hate. If anything, there should be more criticism that their songwriting has more or less stayed the same (soft/loud/soft/louder/loudest).

I just listened to this finally and wow, I am impressed. It's like they out-Coldplayed Coldplay. I can see myself loving this one. I liked their old sound and I hope they don't completely give it up but I really like this song.

This took me by surprise by first listen. A straight up Rock ballad does seem strange coming from them, but I think I like it so far. IDK, maybe it's the instrumentation that I really like about it.

Lol apparently the new Muse single is coming out soon too, looks like everybody's eager to clog up the alt pipeline and increase the competition at the moment.

Although, on Mediabase, I think "I Will Wait" got an extra week or two at #1. But yes, the two artists are releasing their lead singles in between a short amount of time once again. Exciting.

LOL! I'll be a little different with my review. I actually like the beginning, slower part of the song versus the latter part of the song. It's good elevator music. It is very Coldplayish and I'm just a so-so fan of Coldplay. I however love U2 and this is not anywhere near U2. Lyrics are pretty repetitive, too.
Having said all that, I'm sure it will be a radio/iTunes hit. It's certainly not a bad song at all.

To me this feels like a "buzz" single and not anything they expect to get a lot of mileage out of. The part that kicks in @ 2:03 feels like it should come about a minute earlier. I feel like this will get about 7 or 8 weeks on the charts but then they will pull back and release a better single the week the album comes out and push it.

I like Mumford. I like Coldplay, and I like this song. But I'm not sure how I feel about Mumford trying to be Coldplay. Sure, they scored some pop hits, and it sounds like they're going for those. But, in the process, they're abandoning a movement they spearheaded, and I don't know that the world's looking for another Coldplay. I'll miss the depth of the singer-songwriter vibe they had. It's like they're leaving a hole in the musical landscape.
That may or may not be rational. Definitely a guilty pleasure for me.

I'm fine with them changing up their sound, and there are some interesting things going on musically, but as a song I feel like it's rather weak. If we could get the level of songwriting on Sigh No More mixed with this musical style, we'd be getting somewhere.

I've never passionately liked or disliked anything they've done, and this is another fine song for them. But I feel like I would've rather just waited for the next Coldplay record than go out of my way for this one.

I easily prefer this to "I Will Wait", which I loathed*, but...I don't really love this, either. I agree with the sentiment that the extra layer of melody should have come sooner, and I don't think it was used to its best effect here.
*And yes, it was largely due to the heavy folk sound. I don't necessarily hate all folk, but with the way it was shoved down our throats in early 2013...my CHR and Hot AC both jumped on that full bore, and I was so turned off by it that I simply abandoned any current music out at that time, and didn't come back for about six months.
