I'm wondering if The Weeknd can be a big contender this year. "I Can't Feel My Face" and the general presence of Max Martin could make it happen. I know for sure Max Martin is getting nominated in the Producer of the Year (Non-Classical) category this year. If not then something is really wrong.

Janet better snatch a R&B nom for "No Sleeep"/her Album.

R&B and Rap are having really great years, I hope NARAS gets their act together and recognizes that. The R&B nominations in the last few years have been atrocious and with this much stellar material, it will be very disappointing to have veterans phoning in nominations against the below names.
R&B - D'Angelo, Miguel, Janet Jackson, Tinashe, Frank Ocean, The Weeknd, Mary J Blige, Jazmine Sullivan Rap - Kendrick Lamar, Kanye West, Drake, J Cole, Run the Jewels, Nicki Minaj, Fetty Wap, Big Sean, Rae Sremmurd, Wiz Khalifa, Vince Staples, Young Thug

Eligibility period is over in a little more than a month!
Album of the Year's strongest contenders are Taylor Swift, Kendrick Lamar and The Weeknd. Others to consider are Bjork, Foo Fighters, D'Angelo, Alabama Shakes and Florence + The Machine. Maybe Kacey Musgraves? I guess Mumford & Sons is still worth mentioning. Mark Ronson too. Who else is releasing before 9/30 besides Disclosure and Lana Del Rey? I assume we're holding off until next year for Adele, Kanye West, Frank Ocean, Rihanna and Beyonce.
I can't even think about Best New Artist until the submissions leak.
I'm thinking ROTY/SOTY frontrunners are "Uptown Funk," "Blank Space," and "Can't Feel My Face."

Fetty for Best new Artist? He's probably one of the biggest new act in 2015. If Meghan is available, I'm sure she has a shot in taking home the trophy as well.

Since they're releasing the album just before the cut-off period, I'd say he/his team definitely have Best New Artist on their minds. I'd be inclined to agree. My current prediction for the BNA nominees: Hozier (assuming they're using the global, October 2014 release date for his album) Meghan Trainor (since AATB was a single, it appears she's still eligible) Fetty Wap Sam Hunt James Bay or a female act (perhaps Tinashe)

I was surprised to see Shut Up and Dance was submitted last year. I thought it might get nominations this year.

What about George Ezra and Budapest? I feel like they are Grammy bait, although he hasn't gotten a ton of attention this year.

Are they really putting Sam Hunt as a likelihood for the general song/record categories?

I don't know if FFS is a shoo-in. The lineage is undeniable, it had a great Grammy performance last year and the song ended up being a reasonable hit...but it still wasn't the blockbuster that it could have been. It's been difficult for non-megahits to break into the top categories in the last few years and those that have ("Chandelier," Thinking About You") were really well-respected. Barring any strange disqualifications, I think "Uptown Funk," "Blank Space," "Alright," "Thinking Out Loud," and "Can't Feel My Face" are the frontrunners.
I think Best New Artist will be Meghan Trainor, Hozier, Fetty Wap, Sam Hunt and...not sure...maybe an indie artist who isn't really new but gets submitted and had a good year like Courtney Barnett or FKA Twigs. Billboard's other suggestions are likely though.Nick Jonas, maybe? Hell, is The Weeknd eligible? If so, it's over.
Odd for them to point out James Taylor in AOTY since the Grammys "always find home for heritage acts." On the contrary, no heritage act has been nominated in the top category since the Plant/Krauss win. The 00s were filled with veteran winners but there seems to have been a conscious move away from that. Beck is the closest they got but he is lightyears away from James Taylor.

The Weeknd vs. Taylor: A Grammy Grudge Match? As we move into serious Grammy season—and await Grammy whisperer Paul Grein’s September predictions—it becomes more and more apparent to us that XO/Republic’s The Weeknd and Big Machine’s Taylor Swift will be in the headlines when the most-nominated lists come out. Whom will Monte Lipman root for when two of his darlings (one homegrown on his label and the other helping his promo staff make history at radio) are competing for the championship? Could he get a win-win in a tie for Album of the Year? And what if his own Drake gets nominated as well? Quality problems, Mr. Lipman. Quality problems. The Weeknd vs. The Weeknd In several Grammy categories, The Weeknd’s biggest competitor is likely to be himself. Which of his three giant hits that qualify for nominations—“Earned It,” “Can’t Feel My Face” and “The Hills”—will get most attention for Record of the Year and Song of the Year? Which songs will get nods in which genre categories, and where might two of his singles go head to head? Talk about a classy problem. We leave it to Mr. Grein to sort this out. hitsdailydouble.com/news&id=297455

I want to see George Ezra as this year's Hozier - except with a better managed singles process.
And will Adele's single be out before deadline? I'm thinking yes.

Can't believe we're two weeks away from the eligibility date! We should be getting submissions in a month (God willing).

Looking for Carrie Underwood to win her 8th career Grammy for Solo Country Vocal Performance with "Smoke Break". There hasn't really been any solo releases this year, in my opinion, that would be able to challenge Carrie. Little Big Town will likely win Country Song with "Girl Crush", and they'll almost definitely take home Duo/Group Country Vocal Performance as well. I'm looking for Chris Stapleton or Kacey Musgraves to win Country Album, with Little Big Town as a viable winner as well.
Wouldn't be completely shocked to see "Girl Crush" get an all-genre nomination or two, too.
Country Solo Vocal Performance: "Smoke Break" - Carrie Underwood
Country Duo/Group Vocal Performance: "Girl Crush" - Little Big Town
Country Song: "Girl Crush" - Little Big Town
Country Album: "Traveller" - Chris Stapleton "Pageant Material" - Kacey Musgraves "Pain Killer" - Little Big Town

Album of the Year is very interesting. Apart from the lock Taylor Swift, most of the albums with critical (if not commercial) heat are by R&B/hip-hop artists: Kendrick Lamar, D'Angelo, Miguel, Drake. At best I can see 2 of them getting in. Who would the other AOTY nominees be, though? Maybe Little Big Town can ride "Girl Crush" to a spot here, but I doubt it. Fall Out Boy have had a solid year, so their album could get in assuming it's eligible. It's a weak year for contenders, which means there could be some real surprises.
Song of the Year would seem to have "Thinking Out Loud" as a lock nominee and likely winner. "Uptown Funk" could ride general love into this category even though it doesn't seem like a writer's song. "Blank Space" (or whatever Swift's label pushes) is likely to get in. I think "Girl Crush" had enough exposure to get in here, especially since there is often a country nominee. Rachel Platten's "Fight Song" could be a Sara Bareilles/Vanessa Carlton-type nominee, or maybe "Glory" from Selma will take a slot? Didn't they perform it for the first time on the Grammys last year? Or maybe someone like Andy Grammer will get a random nod here a la Ray LaMontagne (not that they are similar artists, just that we do get a surprise here sometimes and "Honey I'm Good" was a decent hit).
In terms of Record of the Year, "Uptown Funk" seems the likely winner. I would guess Taylor Swift will get something in here, too, and probably Ed Sheeran's "Thinking Out Loud" is in. I can see The Weeknd getting in for one of his hits (most likely "Can't Feel My Face"). I could see Fall Out Boy getting in here, too. "FourFiveSeconds" seemed likely at one point, but I feel like it came and went too fast.
Best New Artist would seem to contain Sam Hunt, Meghan Trainor, Rachel Platten, maybe Kelsea Ballerini, maybe Shawn Mendes (is Nick Jonas eligible? He'd be more likely if so). Maybe OMI or Fetty Wrap as surely the blue ribbon panel won't whitewash the category.

I'm thinking BNA will look like this:
Fetty Wap Meghan Trainor Sam Hunt Hozier Maddie & Tae
If The Weeknd is eligible, he'll take Maddie & Tae's spot. Otherwise, that's how I see it. I want Kacey Musgraves' Pageant Material to sneak into Album of the Year so, so badly.

And I would die if Kacey made AOTY <3

hoping Fifth Harmony has a chance to be nominated for New Artist. Haven't they already been out for over 2 years now. They had out an EP before their current cd that includes "Worth It" So I think "Best New Artist" is out.

BNA acts more as a Breakthrough Artist award. See: Esperanza Spalding, Dixie Chicks, Shelby Lynne, etc.
