As with the other two singles, I like this, but the lyrics are atrocious. I actually think the lyrics are quite clever and it does a good job of describing the lengths he will go to in order to be with a. Girl that doesn't want to leave her house for fear of rejection. Maybe I'm reading it wrong that's what I got though.

Well I think he throws that in as an effect that she doesn't want to go to a party for fear of rejection so he's bringing the party to her. They are gonna get as loud as the party would be since he's bringing the party to her.

Well I think he throws that in as an effect that she doesn't want to go to a party for fear of rejection so he's bringing the party to her. They are gonna get as loud as the party would be since he's bringing the party to her. While I respect the lengths you are going to in order to defend your opinion that this is a "deep" song, I perceive it another way. Seems to me that the narrator simply does not understand the girl's hints that she does not like him. Judging by the lyrics, she wants to be a "homebody" meaning that she just wants to stay home. Anybody I know that is like that just really wants to do their own thing and be left alone. Someone who wants to party so hard the neighbors call the cops *usually* has no problem going out to a bar or club. It appears that the girl interest has told the narrator time and again: "no, I do not want to go out with you" and his simple, yet creepy, response is to bring the party to her. "Well, if you don't wanna come out with me, I'll just come to your house. You don't even have to change out of your cat pajamas, because I'll be there in 10 minutes." The more weight we put into the first line: "you don't wanna go out, but you don't wanna be alone" implies a much more sexual context than the rest of the song, further noting that there will only be the two of them at the party. I'd say this song sounds like a much worse version (or something One Direction would have released) of Shania Twain and Billy Currington on "Party for Two." That's my earjerk reaction to the song, but if you insist there is a deeper meaning to a song called "House Party" that Sam Hunt bounces around on stage while singing, I tend to see it as I described above. But we can agree to disagree, of course.

There are plenty go people that have anxiety about leaving the house and being around a bunch of people and their gonna be seen doing something. But when they are in their own house they can do what they want and feel comfortable that's the vibe this song is meant to let off. It's not that she isn't into the guy otherwise why is she blowing up his phone. She doesn't want to go out but she doesn't want to be alone not that she wants to be alone but that she doesn't. Idk just my oppinion

This song isn't deep lets go thru the song line by line You're On The couch blowing up my phone. Translate Girl is talking to guy and in no way does the narrator indicate she's scared vulnerable or any of that. Next Line: You don't wanna come out but you don't wanna be alone. Ok the girl doesn't say why she wants to not go out so that's speculation. Now the next few lines aren't bad until we get to chorus, particularly these lines. We'll wake up all the neighbors till the whole block hates us. That's inconsiderate rude and I'd imagine the girl in the situation doesn't want that nor does she want The cops to.show up and get arrested. Sam Hunt's character is ignorant in this situation. This song just is so poorly wtitten the deeper you go.

I think the lyrics to this are pretty straightforward, and as a female, I assure that nights like these (you don't wanna go out, but you don't wanna be alone) happen frequently. Going out is a PITA for females. There are plenty who love it, to be sure, but after a while all the doing your hair and makeup and getting dressed up gets annoying. And that's really all I take this song to mean. She's having one of those nights and her dude is like okay, cool, I'll being the party to you.

I'm completely bewildered by the notion that someone could read "YOU'RE blowing up my phone" + "YOU don't want to be alone" as the girl rejecting him.

That's exactly what I always thought this song was a about: She wants to be with him but doesn't feel like going out (for whatever reason). Knowing that, he decides to bring the party to her... this way they will be together and won't need to go out". Simple as that, no?

This song just is so poorly wtitten the deeper you go. Umm actually your wrong and you have read this song wrong. The fact she's blowing his phone up we establish she wants him there. "You don't want to go out but you don't want to be alone" I take it to mean he asked the girl if she wanted to come to a party he's already at and she's saying no but doesn't want to be alone so yea that's not a bit speculative the girl is declaring it in the messages on his phone. And the "wake up all the neighbors to the whole block hates us and the cops show try to shut us down" not arrest us but shut us down umm he's bringing a party to her so she doesn't feel left out because she doesn't feel like going out around people how is that ignorant in the least I don't know. In fact the fact that he's leaving this party he obviously like and going through all this effort just to get to this girl and make her feel better just shows how munch he cares. So while you imagine the girl doesn't want the cops or neighbors to get mad she clearly is wanting his company so yea.

Actually the more I think about it this reminds me a lot of "why don't we just dance"by Josh turner in the lyrics except in that one the guy is already there. Nobody said I thing about him making so munch noise he's knocking pictures off the wall though lol.

So happy that this is top 10 after only 8 weeks since add date!! Flying up the charts like an A-lister. It's really looking like we'll get 5 radio singles from "Montevallo". Maybe we'll get both "Break Up in a Small Town" AND "Speakers" before the next album. There was an accidental leak last week of Sam's music video for "Speakers" (it's a semi-steamy video featuring Destinee Quinn from The Voice as the female love interest!) It got quickly pulled off YT by the label though. Possible hint that "Speakers" could be a 5th single after BUIAST as the 4th single? Also excited about Sam's tour dates next year. He will be co-headliner with Dierks Bentley for a couple of Country Festivals in Summer 2016! You know you're becoming an A-lister when Country festivals are signing you up as a headliner 1 year in advance. Sam will also do a few dates opening for Luke Bryan. I'm very happy that Sam will get to watch and learn from the biggest country star right now. UMG is doing an excellent job planning for Luke's heir apparent. The Speakers video you saw was over a year old...it was done by Chase Lauer and crew, most likely to show the label possible choices for singles before the album was released. It was definitely not a new video or one that they would use for the public....looked pretty rough

HP #6 on Billboard country this week and #8 on mediabase! Actually it's still #8 on Billboard. It should move to #6 next week when Jason and Brantley drop below, and it could even jump to #5 if it passes Dustin Lynch (Dustin is only about 700k ahead). www.billboard.com/files/pdfs/country_update_080815.pdf

Up to #32 on the Hot 100 in its 9th week. All of Sam Hunt's songs I've listened to are slow burners for me, in fact, I never got fully tired of hearing "Take Your Time" yet.

#15 all-genre on iTunes. Do we think this is going to get a crossover push?

#15 all-genre on iTunes. Do we think this is going to get a crossover push? This one actually sounds a bit country so I'm not sure that's in the cards for this one, but I suppose it's possible. "Take Your Time" actually didn't really make a big splash as a crossover hit though which makes me doubt this one would get a chance since TYT sounded a lot more like something that would've been a pop hit to me.

I also think "House Party" sounds a bit too country for pop radio, but they could try... I don't feel like there would be any more pushes to pop radio after "Take Your Time". He just straddles the line where his songs are poppy for country fans around Pulse but too country for pop radio. Out of Montevallo I think "Leave the Night On" has the most crossover potential, but I doubt they're going to try LTNO at pop because it's almost been a year since LTNO peaked on country. "Break Up in a Small Town" sounds pop, but I don't think it'll be a hit on pop radio due to the dubstep influences which are 2012-ish and the small town reference (idk how much that would have an effect though, maybe it wouldn't?).

I think "Speakers" would be a good single choice for going into the fall, but I don't know how they pass up "Break Up In A Small Town" as the next single after the way its sold. I'm personally rooting for "Make You Miss Me" though.

I want "Make You Miss Me" as well. That song stood out to me the most from the rest of the album tracks the few times I've listened to Montevallo. It'd be a nice change of pace, imo.

"Make You Miss Me" would be my choice as well. I feel like it's a great choice going into the colder seasons and it shows versatility. "Speakers" wouldn't be a bad choice though. But it looks like "Break Up in a Small Town" is the front runner for the next single considering how well it sold out of the album tracks. That one's probably the only one that I don't want to see released as a single to country radio.

Sam announced on CMT that his next single is "Break Up in a Small Town". Woohoo!!!! My fave song on the album is finally released! Sam will film the music video at the end of the month.
Hopefully my second fave song on the album "Make You Miss Me" is the 5th single. I expect it'd be a big hit in colder weather, so the timing works out better for "Make You Miss Me" to be the 5th single rather than the 4th.

"Break Up in A Small Town" is a good song, but I hope they make a more country-sounding remix for the radio.

I like "Break Up in a Small Town" as a song, but as a country song I don't really know... And at this happening within a day after I post "BUIAST's probably the only one I don't want as a country single"...

He's performing on the 8/18 "Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon." I'd imagine it will still be this - even though it looks like he announced Breakup as the next single.
Will be an interesting night for country, as Chris Stapleton is then performing on that night's Seth Meyers.

In its 10th week on the Hot 100, it climbs 32-31.

Considering the massive sales of "Break Up In A Small Town," it's really not a surprise at all that he's releasing it. It's 400k downloads pre-single release. It'll easily hit Platinum and maybe multi-platinum. It can likely cross over. And no, don't expect a remix of it for country radio. There hasn't been such a thing yet.
