Interestingly they played the opening theme again at the top of hour 3 (hour 2 in ACC Rewind)... strange Hello everyone, Interesting that you noticed this mellongraig. I noticed this, too :) . And I've got a question about this opening theme from the 1993/1994 ACC jingle package, because all these years I seemed to remember it as the closing theme when ending hours 1 to 3 (# 40 to #11). As a lot of you in this forum - like me - listened to the aired shows in those days of 1993 and 1994 - I am wondering if i'm right or wrong. Maybe you can help, maybe you can refresh my thoughts. Unfortunately I don't have the copy of the recording of the show from 1994 anymore - but I have a 1994 ACC show in mind where they played "Mama's Never Seen Those Eyes" in the ACC-archive-segment - and until May 2015 I would swear that the opening theme, played at the top of hour 3 (ACC rewind - it's hour 2, of course) was not only used in hour one as opening theme but used also as the closing theme when ending hour 1, 2 and hour 3 (in ACC rewind it would be only hour 1 and 2). I'm totally sure I heard the long version of the theme - I totally remember that the melody had a very long and powerful steel guitar part - so when I heard they would re-air the old shows, I was looking forward to hear that old closing theme again and would also be able to record it. But when they aired the first ACC Rewind show in May of 2015 (the first rewind show was a show dated May 1993) i was very disappointed hearing a closing theme, which I thought I had never heard before. The singer's voice that sings the "American Country Countdown" line in the closing theme reminds me a litte bit of Billy Ray Cyrus - that's why I will call it the "Billy Ray Cyrus closing theme" in this post. Except of the 1993 show that was re-aired two weeks ago - I never heard that theme on any ACC rewind show before (and of course I couldn't beacause at acc rewind normally they don't air the first acc hour with # 40 to #31) Maybe you all know the American Top 40 channel on Youtube - some of the old ACC shows can be heard there. Of course they cut the music due to legal issues but you can hear all the theme music. Again it surprised me negatively, that the theme was only heard as opening theme in hour one and by the end of hour one to three the BRC-ending-theme is heard again . So again I could'n find a proof, that my memories were right. But it's long time ago since I listened to the 93/94 shows on Armed Forces Network - maybe I forgot that they used this BRC-closing theme which can be heard on all thes ACC rewind shows from 1993 and 1994. So question is - did they produce two different recordings of the show with two different closing themes (either with the BRC-theme or the opening theme that was also used as ending theme) or am I totally wrong with my thoughts. Or: Has there been some shows (probably in 1994 and only then) when they used the openig melody from hour 1 also as the closing theme. Of course it's been long ago - and maybe my brain is playing tricks with me... I would be very happy if someone could answer this question that's going through my mind for over two decades.

I'll do my best to answer as I can with the 1993-1994 and up through January 1995 shows.
These themes, opening, closing, and hour themes for opening/closing were done by HLC/Groove Addicts at the time. As far as the opening and closing themes, they looked similar but weren't exactly the same theme - two separate entities with those.
The closing end of hour theme was shortened quite a bit - not sure who's idea was to do it but it could've been to save time. I think I counted three similar variations that they used to close out the theme for end of hour themes during that time.
I don't know if they did two separate recordings of the theme with regards to the September 18, 1993 show, but I think it was a mistake on their part so it was highly unlikely that they did do two separate ones.
Now, onto this week's show which is from September 29, 1990 and surprisingly, they just did 1990 three weeks ago. I guess they're making up for lost time with that year...

I know this is about the rewind show but did everyone know that the current show with Kix Brooks has went back to using the Billboard Country Airplay chart?

You'll probably have to tune into your local radio stations or find a station that has the show that carries ACC and be capable of streaming online.

Loved hearing this countdown. Heard my favorite Toby Keith and favorite Clint Black songs.
I probably listened to this exact countdown in 1996 the first time around, because I remember hearing "What Will You Do with M-E?" and "That's Enough of That" almost back to back. Even though I was only 9 I remember pointing out the line "Enough of this overreact" in the latter because of the bad grammar. I actually found Western Flyer's second album at a rundown dollar store in Oscoda a long time ago. I still have it, but other than "M-E?" I've never listened to it.
I also remember trying to track down Ty England's second album because I couldn't remember "Irresistible You" and there were no copies on YouTube at the time. Typical late 90s hat act fluff, but a guilty pleasure just the same.

Yeah, it's always nice to hear songs that haven't been heard in quite some time, let alone from its original broadcast (as well as the extras).
This week is another good countdown, this time from October 14, 1995. And as usual, here are the missing first 10:
31. In Pictures - Alabama (#4) 32. Should've Asked Her Faster - Ty England (#3) 33. Not On Your Love - Jeff Carson (#1) 34. Tequila Talkin' - Lonestar (#8) 35. Go Rest High On That Mountain - Vince Gill (#14) 36. You're Gonna Miss Me When I'm Gone - Brooks & Dunn (#1, 2 weeks) 37. Love Lessons - Tracy Byrd (#9) 38. It's Not The End Of The World - Emilio (#27) 39. Here Comes The Rain - The Mavericks (#22) 40. I Want My Goodbye Back - Ty Herndon (#7)

^Is there a certain place I can go to listen to any particular year or some of the old reruns that I've missed? It would be great to just play them anytime I could.

It really seems like most of these #31-#40 songs are fairly big hits just debuting or falling off the chart in their last weeks. There's no reason to not include them in the ACC rewind, at least in my opinion. It's sort of crazy they aren't included. Thanks again for including these every week.
I started listening to country music in 1995, so the last two weeks have been a lot of fun. Lots of good music in '95 and '96 up and down the chart, including a bunch of female acts in the top half of the chart.

Yeah, I'm hoping someday they will include the first hour or at least make it optional to the affiliates like Premiere does for their AT40 70s and 80s shows. Even if they don't, at least make them optional extras. Anyway, going back to October 24, 1992 this week, and until they make the first hour available to the affiliates, here are the missing 10 songs: 31. Lost And Found - Brooks & Dunn (#6) 32. I Still Believe In You - Vince Gill (#1, 2 weeks) 33. When She Cries - Restless Heart (#9) 34. Sure Love - Hal Ketchum (#3) 35. Could've Been Me - Billy Ray Cyrus (#2) 36. We Tell Ourselves - Clint Black (#2) 37. Runnin' Behind - Tracy Lawrence (#4) 38. I'll Think Of Something - Mark Chesnutt (#1) 39. Crash Course In The Blues - Steve Wariner (#32) 40. You And Forever And Me - Little Texas (#5)

I'll also add that the ACC Archives song at the end of the missing first hour was Donna Fargo's "Happiest Girl In The Whole USA".

This week, they are going back to October 31, 1998 (Halloween), but nothing Halloween themed. Notice that the chart began to slow down, and here are the 10 missing songs as usual from this week in '98:

Spirit Of A Boy, Wisdom Of A Man - Randy Travis (#2) 36. Guilty - The Warren Brothers (#34) 37. Hold On To Me - John Michael Montgomery (#4) 38. Every Time - Pam Tillis (#38, peak) 39. This week they are taking a trip back to November 2, 1991, in which there were 6 debuts in the 40 this chart week.
Here are the 10 missing songs (in which we have heard most of them at some point, and 5 are debuts):
31. Rodeo - Garth Brooks (#3) 32. You Couldn't Get The Picture - George Jones (#32, peak position) 33. Leave Him Out Of This - Steve Wariner (#6) 34. You Can Depend On Me - Restless Heart (debut, #3 peak) 35. As Simple As That - Mike Reid (#14) 36. My Next Broken Heart - Brooks & Dunn (debut, #1 peak, 2 weeks counting frozen spot) 37. I actually have part of the 11/9/91 show on tape somewhere. My mom videotaped me at age 4 singing along to it and playing my toy guitar.

Maybe the 11/9/91 show will air next time or be posted as an aircheck soon, but in the meantime, this week they are rewinding back to November 11, 2000, another post-1999 show. By this point, the ACC Mailbag requests at the end have been modified to include the past 15 years or so to the show's air date.
Here are the 10 missing ones and boy the chart did slow down quite a lot:
31. Ashes By Now - Lee Ann Womack (#4 peak) 32. He Will, She Knows - Kenny Rogers (#32 peak) 33. There Is No Arizona - Jamie O'Neal (#1 peak, 1 week) 34. A Good Day To Run - Darryl Worley (#12 peak) 35. But For The Grace Of God - Keith Urban (#1 peak, 1 week) 36. I Want To Know (Everything There Is To Know About You) - Mark Wills (#33 peak) 37. Georgia - Carolyn Dawn Johnson (#25 peak) 38. I'm Gonna Love You Anyway - Trace Adkins (#36 peak) 39. You Made Me That Way - Andy Griggs (#19 peak) 40. Every Man For Himself - Neal McCoy (#37 peak)

This week, they are taking a look back to November 15, 1997, and here are the 10 missing ones not included in this show (although most of them are heard at some point):
31. Of Course I'm Alright - Alabama (#22 peak) 32. I Wanna Fall In Love - Lila McCann (#3 peak) 33. Hand Of Fate - Sons Of The Desert (#33 peak) 34. Imagine That - Diamond Rio (#4 peak) 35. A Chance - Kenny Chesney (#11 peak) 36. You've Got To Talk To Me - Lee Ann Womack (#2 peak) 37. Did I Shave My Legs For This - Deana Carter (#25 peak) 38. Love Of My Life - Sammy Kershaw (#2 peak) 39. You And You Alone - Vince Gill (#8 peak) 40. If You Can't Be Good (Be Good At It) - Neal McCoy (#22 peak)
Lots of women in the countdown too compared to today's status, and other obscurities we haven't heard in a while.

By the way, the ACC Calendar salutes from 11/11/2000 and 11/15/1997 had the same artist, story, and song.
Anyway, this week they are going back to November 27, 1999.
As usual, here are the missing ones:
31. This Woman Needs - SHeDAISY (#9) 32. Because You Love Me - Jo Dee Messina (#8) 33. Ordinary Love - Shane Minor (#24) 34. Back At One - Mark Wills (#2) 35. Small Stuff - Alabama (#24) 36. It Was - Chely Wright (#11) 37. Don't Make Me Beg - Steve Holy (#29) 38. Love Trip - Jerry Kilgore (#36) 39. Lessons Learned - Tracy Lawrence (#3) 40. How Do You Like Me Now?! - Toby Keith (#1, 5 weeks)
Also a nice ACC Calendar salute to Hoyt Axton at the time of his passing a few weeks prior to the show's recording date.

December is upon us and this week they are taking a trip back to December 3, 1994. We may hear a year end show on the weekend of December 30-31 just like last year...
Anyway, here were the first ten missing ones from this week in 1994, but fortunately there is an aircheck on Youtube of this show featuring snippets of these songs.
31. You And Only You - John Berry (#4) 32. Jukebox Junkie - Ken Mellons (#8) 33. She's Not The Cheatin' Kind - Brooks & Dunn (#1, 2 weeks) 34. Little Houses - Doug Stone (#7) 35. The City Put The Country Back In Me - Neal McCoy (#5) 36. Heart Trouble - Martina McBride (#21) 37. Storm In The Heartland - Billy Ray Cyrus (#33) 38. Who's That Man - Toby Keith (#1) 39. When You Walk In The Room - Pam Tillis (#2) 40. I Try To Think About Elvis - Patty Loveless (#3)
And the ACC Archives first hour song was Vern Gosdin - Set 'Em Up Joe (first of the "S" titles), hitting #1 in July 1988. By this point, the ACC Archives were changed to feature #1 country hits from the 80s and 90s in A-Z order by title, evolving from #1 hits from 1966-1990 in A-Z format. I'm not sure why they changed it mainstream, but maybe radio stations were evolving and dropped many late 60s/70s songs in the rotation.

The CT40 website has now updated to include the latest ACC Rewind show and it is from December 8, 1990.
Here are the missing ones (Billboard's peaks aren't quite right on songs moving up/holding as they have changed it to show current peaking positions from the week):
31. Now That We're Alone - Rodney Crowell (#17) 32. Rumor Has It - Reba McEntire (#3) 33. Western Girls - Marty Stuart (#20) 34. American Boy - Eddie Rabbitt (#11, final top 40 hit for this artist) 35. These Lips Don't Know How To Say Goodbye - Doug Stone (#5) 36. Jukebox In My Mind - Alabama (#1, 4 weeks) 37. Daddy's Come Around - Paul Overstreet (#1) 38. We've Got It Made - Lee Greenwood (#14) 39. This Ain't My First Rodeo - Vern Gosdin (#14) 40. Put Some Drive In Your Country - Travis Tritt (#28)
So with their peaks, we've heard most if not all of these songs, though there are still more shows they have in the can.

They must be following a new pattern lately in their show scheme. Anyway, December 18, 1993 is this week's rewind show. Should be up on the website soon. I think they will likely do a regular show next week, and a year-end show the following week.
Here's what songs are missing (some, maybe all of them we have heard before at some point):
31. We Just Disagree - Billy Dean (#9) 32. That Was A River - Collin Raye (#4) 33. Easy Come, Easy Go - George Strait (#1, 2 weeks) 34. I'd Like To Have That One Back - George Strait (#3) 35. I Swear - John Michael Montgomery (Hot Shot Debut, #1, 4 weeks) 36. High Tech Redneck - George Jones (#24) 37. Something's Gonna Change Her Mind - Mark Collie (#24) 38. Does He Love You - Reba McEntire w/Linda Davis (#1) 39. No Time To Kill - Clint Black (#3) 40. Drivin' And Cryin' - Steve Wariner (#24)

Regarding the ACC Archives, I found it interesting that, towards the end of that series, they started including songs that hadn't even been released when the series started. If my memory is correct, I believe one of those songs was "Why Didn't I Think of That" by Doug Stone, which hit # 1 in the summer of '93. I used to enjoy trying to predict which songs had made it to #1 and would therefore be included. I didn't have the Whitburn book at the time, so I had no way to look it up.
