Wait, why are people thinking this is done? I hope they are right, just wondering why?

Wait, why are people thinking this is done? I hope they are right, just wondering why? Because this should have a healthy bullet (M5 new single), it seems to be peaking soon.

I'm shocked this is about to peak so soon. The melody in the pre-chorus is heaven-sent and the instrumental is pure, breezy synth-pop so I thought these would be enough to make up for the atrocious (yet appropriate for the kind of song it is) lyrics. Guess not.

Wow, yes, the Rockstar comparison is pretty close. This song is literally that song's equivalent, but probably not as good or clever.

Still better than "Sugar", though.

I'm not sure that there is any indication that the song is done. Sure the bullet has lost some steam and sales could be better, but neither are atrocious and it's still gaining spins. Is this going to be a number one? Maybe not, but I think it still has some steam left in it.

Gosh, the fourth single from a reissue "only" made it to top 10 on pop.
They have 3 songs in the top 100 on iTunes, two of which are THIS song. (Sugar is still at 38, BTW)
They have 6 songs in the top 200 on iTunes, three of which are THIS song.
Maps, Animals, and Sugar STILL get consistent radio play.
Looks like Maroon 5 is done, guys.

If this gets second wind, it's surely payola'd, right?

Well much like "Rockstar" destroyed Nickelback's pop career. I think this song may be enough to kill Maroon 5's career. I wish this was true. Adam irritates the shit out of me. But he does have a faithful following and I think he will be fine no matter what. He really needs to take time off from the voice. Mainly because he ruins that show for me lol. But, I get his appeal and most of their songs are at the very least catchy.

YOU...HAVE WON. Here's my personal opinion on the V singles: Animals < Sugar < This Summer's Gonna Hurt < MAPS

If this gets second wind, it's surely payola'd, right? Not necessarily. Radio LOVES MAROON5 and will give them the benefit of the doubt. Also, its not abnormal to see a song slow down at this point and then pick back up. Or it could just be peaking. But, if it gets another wind and goes top 5 or so I would not be shocked or accused them of buying it.

It's bullet is slowing down but it's still on the rise. This used to happen to songs just before or after they entered the Top 10 before the bullet picked up to ginormous numbers again. Is that still a thing?
As for rankings, I'd go:
It Was Always You > This Summer's Gonna Fuck Like A Motherhurter > Sugar > Maps > Animals

If this gets second wind, it's surely payola'd, right? Yup, Pulse TOS clearly state: "If a song I don't like does well, it's payola. If a song I do like does well, it's SMAAAAAAaAAASHhHHHHHh." EDIT: Clean video was just released:

Well much like "Rockstar" destroyed Nickelback's pop career. I think this song may be enough to kill Maroon 5's career. After rockstar their next two song both went top 15 on pop and lasted more than 20 weeks on the chart . Even after that the next two singles did decently peaking in the 20s and spending more than 15 weeks on the chart each

"Rockstar" was also one of the biggest hits from that album era, so I'm not getting that comparison. Their next lead single still debuted in the Hot 100 Top 10, and every song from that album did decently. Their career declined because their post-grunge style lost its appeal on pop radio (and because it became cool to hate Nickelback). And it's not saying much at all, but even now, they still get more success than most bands of their style.

I usually don't find myself hoping for a song to flop, but this song deserved to underperform. I can give them the benefit of the doubt for the past cut and paste singles, because at least it was catchy fluff. This, though, is atrocious and embarrassingly bad. When artist is so massive that they are willing to release anything because radio will play it, that's a major red flag. Not to to mention this screams "Look a us, we're so edgy!" It's **king Maroon 5, shut up, Adam.

The argument that this song is killing M5's career is laughable. Like a gut wrenching laughable.

The Rockstar thing is bugging the sh*t out of me. It did great for a fifth single and is Nickelback's biggest selling hit digitally. The following first single, Gotta Be Somebody, had a MASSIVE first week at pop. If anything, it was that next album being complete shit that killed them here, it had NOTHING to do with Rockstar.

This isn't igniting the charts as instantly as I thought it would, but I still think it's got a second burst ahead of it. Don't their videos usually help their songs a lot? Any word on one for this?
