Amazing how this might get #1 on the Hot 100 without the help of HAC/AC

I'm surprised that I'm finally liking this song. I didn't think it would happen but I've been hearing it a lot on our local Top 40 station here in Boston. I think I like it more than "Earned It" which took me AWHILE to get into.

Officially added to SiriusXM Hits 1 today. Already hit #10 on their Wutchuwant Countdown - their mini-countdown of most requested songs of the hour/day - tonight.

Amazing how this might get #1 on the Hot 100 without the help of HAC/AC I actually looked into this earlier, and if it goes #1 next week (which, it has a VERY good chance of doing so), then it's going to be the first #1 without HAC support since "Harlem Shake", and the first non-debuting one since "Whatever You Like" in 2008.

So happy this is doing well. I thought it would be a bit too...not catchy? serious? vulgar? for pop to play it a lot. Like, some combination of all those elements made this feel not particularly pop friendly to me. I was really wrong!

Kworb's archives only go back to May 2011, and Wikipedia doesn't have "Adult Top 40" listed under its peaks. There were two other #1s that year without HAC support, as well: "Love In This Club" and "Lollipop".

Why is it a surprise for a RHY song to hit #1 without Hot AC (and by the way, it is on 24 HAC stations)? Urban, RHY, and Pop are orders of magnitude more in terms of reach for the audience than HAC. Plus, in an era where digital downloads count, having knowledge of his album and easy access to this as a single makes it even more plausible.

In some ways it seems bizarre that this is going to be the monster #1 for him and hit of his career in all likeliness, given both EI and CFMF sounded much more like the songs that would do that.

The radio station I listen to has added this, and honestly I'm shocked. They usually never play anything like this. For an example, the only 'rap' song they've played in recent memory has been See You Again (Love The Way You Lie and Empire State of Mind were both part two, Problem and Good For You with the rap removed, etc). The censoring was very obvious.

Oh, I wasn't saying it was, sorry if it came across that way, just noting that rap is pretty tame, especially in the songs featured, and the fact they remove it is strange, but then play this, which has a lot of cursing and has a very 'dark' sound to it, not a usual pop song.

Any idea what his next single will be ? I would guess "In the night," especially with him being on the upcoming Jingle Ball tour. I'd love to see "Shameless" released at some point. His feature on Disclosure's "Nocturnal" could also work down the line.

You know, if this doesn't hit #1 on pop (which it just might not), it'll be the first Hot 100 #1 not to hit #1 on CHR since Baauer - Harlem Shake. :|

Nor did Umbrella or I Kissed a Girl or We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together. It happens from time to time. Doesn't diminish the song's success at all. Just a fun story about how some random song blocked it.

Any idea what his next single will be ? www.billboard.com/charts/r-and-b-songsAcquainted is doing the best of his album tracks right now, so is probably the best choice. Although you could say Dark Times is doing better because it's doing almost as well without being up for download. Also, it's possible that The Hills will get HAC support eventually? Sometimes songs take off on certain formats after their peak. I'm shocked that Love In This Club never went top 50 on HAC, although Lollipop and Whatever You Like not getting there is understandable.
