I agree that it doesn't make sense not to count these two weeks, but it also doesn't make sense that Mediabase wouldn't "publish" charts during these weeks in the first place. They're still tracking the data, so all someone has to do is save the data as a PDF.
Aircheck, in fact, actually publishes a New Year's week issue that *doesn't* include a chart, which is all kinds of bizarre since there's obviously staff there editing a newsletter. Why omit the charts unless you're making a conscious decision not to "count" those charts?
Note that I'm less concerned with what the labels count. The labels will obviously paint the most favorable picture of their music (which makes it telling that they haven't declared Burning House a #1 yet), but what I want to know is whether Mediabase will, from a historical perspective, count this as a #1.
Let's say Cam's next single goes to #1. In the All Access "Sweet Treats" post, will they reference it as her second #1 or her first?
[The ambiguity is also really annoying. Cam responded to a Tweet about this by saying "das right," but it's unclear whether she's saying "yes, I'm #1 on Mediabase AND I'm hoping to go #1 on Billboard" or just "yes, I want the Billboard #1"]

For what it's worth, here's a tweet (from last night) from the program director of one of Minneapolis' two main country radio stations: On the other hand, I Googled for what I would consider to be the big tell -- whether there was a #1 party for "My Kinda Party" to honor its songwriter, Brantley Gilbert (thanks jhomes87 for the reminder that "My Kinda Party" was the rare song to be a Mediabase-only #1 during this time of year). I can't find anything to suggest that there was, so that suggests to me that Music Row publishers accept the idea that there is no official Aircheck/Mediabase chart for the last two weeks of the year. That would also explain why Sony Nashville would be going for the Billboard #1 after all this week. I hope that they and Cam get it. ETA: Well, press releases like this one for Brantley Gilbert do refer to "My Kinda Party" as one of his #1s, so take that for what it's worth.

It counts. ETA: And just as I write that, I stumble upon this obnoxiously ambiguous line from the last Country Aircheck of 2010. I guess the best way to describe "Burning House" is that it counts as a Mediabase #1 but not an Aircheck #1.

Kanimal---the answer to your question is unequivocally YES, since as we all know, Mediabase never sleeps!!!
It was exactly a year ago that 'Shotgun Rider' rose to #1 for the week ending 12-13-14, and would go on to spend a month in the penthouse, including a narrow 72-point margin in its final week as Bob Kingsley duly noted when 'CT40' returned in early 2015.
As previously stated, both 'I've Come To Expect It From You' and 'My Next Thirty Years' spent 5 weeks at #1 as Kingsley acknowledged when CT40 returned in early January of 1991 and 2001 respectively, and their respective stays at #1 straddled two years, as did Faith Hill's 'Breathe', which reached #1 on Christmas Day 1999, and went on to spend six weeks on top.
More recently, 'Need You Now' also spent 5 weeks at #1 before 'Consider Me Gone' took over in late December 2009, as Kingsley pointed out on the first CT40 countdown of 2010, as he opened his show with 'While we were away, Reba McEntire moved into the #1 spot......'
When the final edition of Country Aircheck Weekly comes out tomorrow, do expect to see an ad requesting maximum spins now starting on Dec. 27th for Jason's tune, as sabre14 impeccably pointed out earlier in this thread.
Congrats to Cam on reaching #1, and I hope she gets the top spot at BB as well.

Thanks!
Just to note - Mediabase actually *did* publish its official PDF this week, so the whole thing is sort of moot. No, it doesn't adhere to recurrent rules. No, there presumably won't be an Aircheck chart this week. We also probably won't get the "First Look at the Published Chart" email from AllAccess. But the Mediabase PDF containing the Official Top 50 as well as the 'New Airplay' positions is available.

Yesterday I thought Cam had a good chance to get both charts but looking at today's update it looks like Sony stopped pushing last night. Am I the only one seeing this? Further, am I the only one baffled by this?

It makes little sense to me as well since her next single won"t go to radio until mid"January or latrt, so why not get the BB #1 as well?

So much of weekly playlists at country radio, especially the weekend programming, has become preset that I get a bit bemused when artists urge their fans to blanket radio with requests. I figure that, in addition to pre-arranged rotation assignments, the only thing that really works in "push" weeks is extra spins on syndicated programs, and those are largely pre-arranged (trading interviews and/or live performances or outright bought), too. So for Arista Nashville to get the Billboard #1 for "Burning House," it was a matter of fighting in advance for airplay on the right configuration of stations that would deliver the right amount of audience, and with rotation changes for many radio stations now coming into effect on Sunday, it was, perhaps, a matter of doing so for two weeks of rotation. Obviously, it can be done, and has been. But there was a 662K AI swing in favor of "Die a Happy Man" in this morning's MB update, which doesn't make me optimistic about the Billboard result. Time to watch social media to see who claims #1, pending the release of the Billboard airplay chart. If "Burning House" missed Billboard #1, then the year's three biggest female-voiced hits ("Something in the Water," "Girl Crush" and "Burning House") will have missed out on an airplay #1 at Billboard, though at least "Burning House" will be able to claim a Mediabase #1 (while "Girl Crush" and "Something in the Water" were of course multi-week #1s on the Hot Country Songs charts). ETA: Bobby Bones is congratulating Cam on her #1 this morning.

A rough estimate -- over the last 7 days, looking at the MB numbers, Cam has gained about 1.5 million on the Rhett song. And on last week's Billboard chart, Cam was 1.5 million behind Rhett. So it's at least possible that the two songs will be in the same narrow range, within which "anything can happen" on the Billboard chart.
I am fully aware that this is not the "right way" to do chart analysis. I realize the audience numbers are a lot higher on the MB panel than on the BB panel, I realize that a "translation factor" has to come into play in order to determine who wins a close race. I'm not saying I know what will happen, but I am saying it wouldn't surprise me to see Cam win by a narrow margin. Or Rhett. Didn't the Dan + Shay song make its way to #1 by a margin of 1k? So the "scientists" are getting better and better at manipulating their desired outcomes.
I would have projected a narrow win for Rhett based on this morning's MB update, but certainly Cam winning the race is well within any margin of error I can imagine using. If the outcome only depended on which song I prefer... but that, unfortunately, does not come into play. Too close, this contest.

The final numbers should be extremely close. Thomas had a 1.497 million in audience lead on Cam last Monday on Billboard...Cam gained 1.572 million in MB audience on Rhett this week...that should equate to a close race. I will say that "Die A Happy Man" lost about 800-900k in audience on Westwood One this week (W1HC), while "Burning House" lost about 500-600k in audience on Westwood One (W1HC), so that might play a small factor here.
Edit: "Die A Happy Man" is #1 on Billboard. "Burning House" is a MB only #1.

Too bad for Cam. I was hoping she could get a number one, but Thomas Rhett prevailing feels more 'natural', since it doesn't seem like he got a major push.

Edit: "Die A Happy Man" is #1 on Billboard. "Burning House" is a MB only #1. Which explains why she *suddenly* realized that her song was already #1 on the Mediabase chart. [For record-keeping purposes, Arista also just issued a press release referring to it as a country radio #1]

What a fucking shame that this is a MB-only #1. Basically every single I love seems to have this happen to it. They should've kept pushing this and let Thomas wait another week.

It must be Arista Nashville's newest thing to go for MB-only #1s. They're great at it!

That Monday update where "Burning House" lost 359k in MB audience proved to be the difference as Cam fell 264k short of Thomas Rhett on Billboard Airplay this week.

But a gain throughout the week and then a 250k-400k loss on Monday always seems to indicate that the label was strictly going for a MB #1 because they didn't think they could get the BB #1. In this case, I'm confused because they obviously had a chance at BB.

Cam tweeted to a fan that she and her label are definitely going for Billboard #1. The tweet specifically said she and the label want it all (referring to both charts). The song was simply beaten by a bigger song. Glad to see the more nature result got to #1.

She would have been the third female at Arista with a #1 following Pam Tillis (Mi Vida Loca My Crazy Life-1995) and Carrie Underwood (Jesus, Take The Wheel-2006).

Cam still DID get a #1 in the eyes of just about everyone. I know folks here (and Wikipedia) seem to not like Mediabase much but it's not like a #1 there "only" doesn't matter. It still does.

That's surprising that Arista has had so few solo females. It seems like their artists either hit it huge (Paisley, Underwood, Jackson, B&D) or not at all (anyone remember Dude Mowrey?).

I just realized how this song is similar to Safe and Sound, by Taylor Swift and The Civil Wars. All these months I've been thinking I've heard this song before.

What a f**king shame that this is a MB-only #1. Basically every single I love seems to have this happen to it. They should've kept pushing this and let Thomas wait another week. I'm very disappointed that this missed the Billboard #1, but as kw9461 pointed out, Arista Nashville DID try for the Billboard #1 here. Normally a loss on Mediabase on Monday morning indicates that the label was only going for the Mediabase #1, but I believe 43dudleyvillas has the right of it -- I think Sony tried to get extra spins on Sunday, but the fact that there's so much syndicated programming on the weekends (especially Sundays) proved to be too much of an obstacle for the Arista promo team to overcome. Cam's social media accounts (and some tweets from people within the industry) were a pretty clear indicator that Sony wanted the #1 on both charts, but Thomas Rhett's team was also going for the Billboard #1, and they managed to sneak ahead of Cam on the 7th and final day of the Billboard tracking week.

It does have a similar kind of feel to it but I don't think the melody or lyrics are similar. I definitely like both!
