Oh my!! Kacey! My QUEEN of country! <3 I REALLY hope Are You Sure is released officially as a single. I mean, few artists release videos for songs that never will become singles. This song was already in my top 5 of the album, but now it might be top 3. The video is perfect, the song as well. I know this video was talked about for ages ago, but if it wasn't like that... (lol) It would be like Kacey saying "Ok, you won't play my friendly music? Then take this country song, do you dare to play it on... COUNTRY radio?"
Seriously, this song is everything <3

If they won't even play "Dime Store Cowgirl", I definitely can't see them giving "Are You Sure" the time of day either. But filming a video for it and not "Dime Store Cowgirl" is puzzling to me.

Yeah, about Dime Store Cowgirl, I wonder why they dropped the ball so soon. Maybe after the reaction to Biscuits, they said "Sorry Kacey, no more videos or singles... unless it's "Are You Sure", cause well, we already have that one!"
And I agree, this wouldn't get a single add, the way things are.

If I remember correctly, the video for Are You Sure was shot even before Dime Store Cowgirl was announced as the second single (she mentioned it on Twitter right after the album release). I think the video is just a promotional video with no purpose behind... Just a little treat for the fans.

It was a treat to see Willie Nelson but honestly that song is soooooo slow I had trouble not turning it off early. It doesn't strike me as a good potential single choice.

Sorry to change the subject from "Are You Sure", but I just want to rant about country radio right now. Out of all of Kacey's singles, this one is definitely the most radio-friendly. Shame on radio for ignoring this song, and I think it's foolish to not play her music just because they don't have a god relationship with Kacey. Rant over.

Kacey will be performing tonight on Jimmy Kimmel. Hopefully it will help the song get some traction on radio(assuming she's performing Dime Store Cowgirl)
I doubt it will make much a difference but at this point, anything helps lol

Just another flawless performance...
On a superficial note, can I just say how gorgeous she looks? I absolutely love the sort of vintage aesthetics she's going for with this era.

I didn't expect anything for DSC, but it's still infuriating to watch females being ignored endlessly.
On one hand, I applaud Kacey for sticking to her guns and making her music with no ulterior motives, but on the other, it still angers/annoys me that she has virtually no traction outside of promo appearances.
The fact that radio PD's claim that the masses want to her males over females at radio is flat-out ridiculous, and I don't care what the callout scores indicate. Maybe the females would actually have a chance in hell if radio bothered to play them, and actually supported them beyond their debut singles. Radio plays a huge part in driving buzz, but if Kacey can nab high-profile gigs without any radio support, I can't imagine the good fortunes radio support would bring her. When radio's support can make a budding star even bigger, that's when radio really needs to get on board with the public.
Clearly Kacey has a loyal fanbase that is willing to support her, but she's almost being cheated out of more when radio refuses to play her, even with all her success.
Radio listeners are a VERY narrow spectrum of Country radio listeners, but who's to say that supporting some female artists wouldn't bring a broader, more open-minded audience back to the format? Radio has an opportunity here, and they won't even take it when the door is wide open; the treatment of females gets more appalling by the day. >:(

I mean, Pageant Material has been out for what? 2 or 3 months and was able to sell 125k on the back of a song that peaked at #41! NUMBER FORTY ONE! That's crazy! Imagine if actually had some support...

She's at least charting on the Indicator chart (up 58-57* in week 3). It absolutely in no way makes up for anything, but I'm glad to see her at least charting somewhere. I'm still hopeful that this cracks the main chart, but it's disappointing to see her no longer in even New and Active. Two weeks later, she's back in New And Active with just under 600K, and slips 54-55* on the Indicator (still with a bullet though). I know it's a long shot, but I'm still hopeful that she'll at least crack the main chart.

I am just beginning my career in radio (college radio, yes I know - but you have to start somewhere) and I can honestly tell you, if I ever get to a point where I have enough voice, I promise that the shutting out of women and even more traditional sounding songs will not happen. Yes, I am just typing now, and I realize that I have no power whatsoever and have very little knowledge of the industry on a radio standpoint. Nevertheless, this cannot continue - and yet it does. It's sad that PDs are becoming so washed within their own view of the spectrum to not look outside of the box. Look at the fans, look at the promo spots, the number of promo spots. Everything is there but the support of radio. If I could like your post 10 billion times I would. Remember when fans drove radio? Well, now...it's suits. Suits, who most likely could care less about the artists. I'm not saying that all suits disregard artists, but when you put money over talent, that is wrong. So WRONG! *Steps down from soap box.*

According to someone on twitter who saw Kacey in concert last night, Mercury is not pushing "Dime Store Cowgirl" anymore. It'll still get spins on small stations but this one ended up not charting on Billboard Airplay and not even cracking the top 60 on MB.

Shame on Country radio. At least Kacey probably isn't too affected by it. Since well she doesn't need country radio.

Bummer, but no surprise. Here's hoping this will help them feel justified in releasing whatever they'd like to radio, because it's not like they can do any worse than 'Dimestore' did. Any success with future releases would be a "win" (lol), so might as well just do us all a solid and release "Pageant Material"/"Late to the Party"/"Somebody to Love"/"Fine"/"Good Ol' Boys Club"/"High Time"/pull a Shania Twain and release every track on the album.
At the end of the day, she's got 3 CMA nominations, a CMA performance slot, and will likely see that same kind of love at the Grammys this winter. Kacey wins.

LOL I would love to see her succeed unexpectedly with a future single release (even though I doubt it). I'm rooting for "Somebody to Love" to be released, hopefully with a video! "Late to the Party" would be a good choice as well. "Good Ol' Boys Club" would be an epic message to send out as a single as well.

I know I shouldn't be surprised that this song didn't make in impact on country radio considering the state of radio at the moment but I am still severely disappointed. I probably sound like a broken record since it's been echoed by many other people who love Kacey's music like I do, but country radio is really missing out by not playing her. Both of her albums are amazing and offer incredible songs that people need to hear. It's just frustrating to see the songs be ignored. :( Still my hope will not be extinguished. Maybe she can still have a hit off this record. You never know! The quality is there. More people just need to catch on.

Hmm. This is interesting. Kacey Musgraves and her team submitted "Dime Store Cowgirl" for Record, Song, Country Solo, and Country Song for the Grammys, and only pushed "Biscuits" for Music Video. They also submitted "Are You Sure?" for Country Vocal Duo/Group/Collab, and Pageant Material itself for both Country Album and Album of the Year. These are just submissions; first round voting has now begun and official nominations are going to be announced on 12/7. But, it really shows how much she and the label are sticking together against Country radio if they're going to submit DSCG to the Grammys over their own radio hit this era. I think the Grammys are going to show it the love it deserves, too, judging by her history with them.

I think the Grammys are going to show it the love it deserves, too, judging by her history with them. I was the one who requested her Grammy submissions on GoldDerby and that was what I was most curious about: "would she push both singles for consideration or only one". I was thinking Biscuits would have an advantage being more well-known (since it was actually played on radio lol) and having a nice video to back it up, but I personally prefer DSC, so I'm happy with how she submitted. Now I'm just a tiny bit worried having a "no-hit" in contention could hurt her chances a bit (even though the Grammys has showed plenty of times recently that's not a decisive factor in the country field at all). Apart from that, her duet with Willie was a very wise choice for submission!

Mercury Nashville re-sent "Dime Store Cowgirl" to radio through Play MPe today. Mercury's giving radio a second chance with the CMA Awards approaching.

I saw her live for the 2nd time on Saturday night at The Apollo. Apparently, she is the first country artist in history to headline that venue and the show was sold out. She expressed to the crowd how grateful she is for her fanbase and how loyal they are despite her lack of radio support. She also commented that seeing such a wide variety of people in the audience made her a little emotional. The show was amazing too. She seems like such a cool, down to earth girl and I really don't understand why radio doesn't give her a chance with her phenomenal music, especially "Dime Store Cowgirl".
Also, my cousin and friend who I went with, and myself entered a raffle where you had to text "Kacey" to a number in order to win a pair of cowgirl boots from her new line. I know my cousin is dying for a pair so I entered with the intention of giving them to her if I happened to win. However, my (male) friend that we went with ended up winning! He is giving them to my cousin, which I think is really sweet of him considering he could have sold them for a couple of hundred dollars at least! She chose the white ones that look kind of old-school/retro and Kacey says they are her favorites and she wears them to almost every show. Just thought I'd share. :)

Ecstatic that they're re-releasing this to radio. I still maintain the opinion that this is by far the strongest offering on the record for country radio and it's just inexcusable that they let it flounder so bad that it didn't even chart. Hopefully the hype from the awards show will wake up some of the PDs and they'll realize they have more to gain by playing such a popular artist than ignoring her.

A matter of taste I guess, but this song never struck me as that good for radio vs. her other songs to date.
I'll be surprised if another attempt at radio has any very different result than the first time so recently. Is there much precedent for that working for a song that got no traction to be released again in the same year and seeing a significant improvement?
