All I was saying was that it didn't look like it was doing really well right now. That's it ok indulgecountry that's the gist of it. Dibs just doesn't seem to be doing well right now. Ok. It's Top 15 after 4 months for a female artist not named Carrie Underwood or Miranda Lambert and it's sales are comparable to the other songs around it, so you must have some mighty lofty expectations for this then if you think it isn't "doing well."

Really though nobody should've expected it to do amazing, doing well was even a pipe dream due to radio's treatment of top 20 follow ups for new females over the last decade. On top of that Kelsea isn't a format superstar, or even A-Lister yet so her current pace is about all we should expect at this point in her career. The fact that some people said she's the next Taylor Swift was just good hype her team got her when she went #1. It should not raise expectations for those who follow the industry as close as we do. Dibs is doing fine. P.s. Ashton Shepherd got two top 20's if you go by media base. P.p.s. Did Jana Kramer beat Kelsea into being the first to Get 2 top 20's?

"Whiskey" peaked at #25 on Billboard and #27 on MB. It actually spent five nonconsecutive weeks at #27 on MB.

Yeah, Jana is different because "Whiskey" didn't immediately follow-up her first hit into the Top 20. I'm glad she also finally got herself a second hit though, too.

This was what Kelsea Ballerini said in an interview with NashvilleGab, about her next single after "Dibs" is done at radio: This is a clear indicator to me that "Peter Pan" or "The First Time" will be the third single.

I was pretty confident one of those two would be next and I agree that either one would be a great choice for her to make at this point after two strong uptempo hits! I like "Peter Pan" a slight bit more than the title track but they're both among my favorites on the album and I'll be incredibly happy with either and think that no matter which one she releases, she'll have another hit on her hands.

Kelsea finished the year as Mediabase's top new artist -- the second female artist overall. "Love Me Like You Mean It" was the #13 song on Mediabase's 2015 Year-End chart and she was named Billboard's "Rising Star" of 2015" (the first Country artist to receive that award).

This past week I heard this played immediately following "Burning House" and I wonder how many people's heads exploded due to all that tomato for 7 whole minutes.
Kidding aside, seeing this and Cam and Jana's songs all doing really well in the Top 15 simultaneously is refreshingly wonderful. More of that please, country radio.

"Dibs" has a pretty good chance to finish this week in the top 10. On Billboard, Cam will go recurrent, which means that Kelsea could take that top 10 spot if she can sneak back ahead of Granger Smith. If Granger stays ahead, then Kelsea will need either Tim or Blake (or both) to start falling a bit more. I expect their losses to escalate as we get into the weekend, but it remains to be seen if either of them will fall below Kelsea. In any case, Kelsea will definitely go top 10 and beyond with "Dibs". If she doesn't get there this week, she'll definitely finish next week in the single digits, chart position-wise.
An aside...Kelsea showed up at Charles Kelley's concert in West Palm Beach a couple days ago and sang "Need You Now" with him:

I wonder if Black River will be able to buy Kelsea another #1 with this, or if this will naturally rise to the top. Regardless I love her and this song.

I would argue that Black River did not buy Kelsea a no.1 with Love Me Like You Mean It. That song was on a no.1 track pretty much from the moment it hit the top 20. Did they excessively push during the week they were going for the no.1? Absolutely, but I would say the song was headed there anyway. jhomes87 and sabre14 feel free to refute that. haha

I feel like "Love Me Like You Mean It" was a pretty well-earned #1. Sure, the label had to do some pushing during their "max spins" week, but I think the song would have probably gotten there anyway. It was a pretty big hit, all things considered. "Dibs" hasn't been quite as big but I think it will wind up going #1 (or at least top 5) before all is said and done. Now, with all that said, I don't think Kelsea is nearly as popular as her label and country radio would lead you to believe. She's clearly a rising star and her accomplishments are nothing to sneeze at, but she definitely hasn't broken out the way Taylor Swift did after her first 2 singles (I only say this because several industry people seem to insist on comparing her to Taylor, or saying that she could possibly be the "next Taylor"). "Dibs" might sneak to Gold status later this year (if it lasts long enough in the top 10 on the airplay charts), but The First Time has sold rather poorly--only about 80,000 copies so far. I don't have a lot of numbers in front of me right now (perhaps I'll dig some up later if/when I have more time), but I know that a lot of other newer artists (many of whom haven't had back-to-back top 10's as Kelsea has) have cruised past 150,000 with ease, and we've seen several newer or new-ish artists with albums sales in the 200-300k range after their album cycles are done. Kelsea's not gonna get anywhere near those numbers unless her 3rd single is a surprise mega hit that leads to strong album sales. So I'm not convinced that she'll remain a strong presence at country radio. I'm not saying her star won't continue to rise...I'm simply saying that I'm not 100% convinced by the results so far. One thing is clear: she definitely has the potential. I think her next 2 singles will prove to be the real test. I expect that The First Time will only produce one more single (for a total of 3), and then the lead single to her sophomore album will most likely be crucial to how her career plays out over the next few years. ETA: Beat ya, sabre14! ;)

"Love Me Like You Mean It" was on a #1 journey from the time it hit the top 20 like you said bigfan101 but the reason it got there was Black River and their promotion department. I was never the biggest fan of that lead single but it did connect on a good enough level for radio to embrace it and Black River did the rest. The massive push the week it went #1 was most definitely an excessive move on Black River's part but I guess they figured it was a momentous achievement worth flexing their muscles for. There was absolutely zero need for it though, to me. ...oh yeah, I know what Kelsea's next single is, too... ;)

I want Dibs to be Black River's second top ten hit. I would love for it to happen next week, but Granger Smith is in the way.

If this one does go all the way to #1, it would make Kelsea the first female to start her career with back-to-back #1s out of the gate (on BB anyway) since Jamie O'Neal clear back in 2001, won't it? That's pretty incredible, albeit a rather sad statistic.

Jamie's first two singles only went #1 on Billboard ("There Is No Arizona", "When I Think About Angels") and Carrie's "Don't Forget To Remember Me" barely reached #1 on R&R (with no bullet) while it missed on Billboard.

I'm curious to see if this hits #1 Kelsea is ahead of Granger on MB but not BB. There is plenty of time for Kelsea to pass Granger or vice versa on the other chart but I could see Kelsea Dibs as a MB only #1

Kelsea pretty much confirmed herself on Twitter that "Peter Pan" will be the next single.

Kelsea pretty much confirmed herself on Twitter that "Peter Pan" will be the next single. I keep forgetting about that tweet, lol. It was posted right around the time I was told. :) Anyway, Kelsea asked for it to be her third single and Black River (Gordon Kerr) is accommodating her wishes. I was told that things could change though, so it isn't 100% certain yet, but "Peter Pan" is the plan for single #3. I think it's the no-brainer choice. She needed to come back with something slower and the song's unique title will most definitely help it.

Definitely one of her stronger lyrics, and she needed something more leaning ballad after her first two singles sounded similar.

Yeah, I have high hopes and am very excited about "Peter Pan" being next! I was really pulling for either that or the title track, because I think either of those would be good choices to switch things up now that she's had some success at country radio. I can see "Peter Pan" making more of a splash sales-wise than "Dibs" has, too, and perhaps also boost the album sales nicely along with it. Even though The First Time hasn't sold amazingly well or anything, it's sold about as much as Frankie Ballard's last album, so if he could manage three #1 hits off that, I think Kelsea certainly should/could with hers!

I am excited for Peter Pan that's a song that really shows some really strong maturity and the Peter Pan references work very well I can only hope it becomes a hit. I did decide to re listen to her album and really besides this Looking At Stars and Yeah Boy I do like Kelsea as a whole so once Dibs is done I will be more than likely back on the Kelsea Ballerini train.

Words can't describe my excitement for this. I hope this can officially get her to stick with radio. This has smash all over it. Hopefully given the chart congestion this won't get lost in the shuffle. Overall I love the song cause it to me is pop-country perfection. So excited for when this will officially start charting. Hopefully by July. I miss this raylatch. He was so much cooler. :'(

I'm still cool enough I think. Look we aren't going to have the same taste I just this song wore on me quicker and quicker than any other song I can recall it wore out on me rather quickly. Besides I am plenty cool enough.
