Okay...what did you mean by that? Just wondering. The title is "Yup"... He's expressing his displeasure of the song by saying the opposite, "Nope".

I might like this song if there was any lyrical depth to it, but nope, there isn't. I'm pretty sure this song is about literally nothing and gosh what a shame that is, considering this guy is one of the more talented young artists in the genre.

What really bothers me about this song is the fact that the title is "Yup" but then he proceeds to say "Yep" like 95% of the time in the song... At least it sounds that way on the semi-scratchy radio station I usually listen to.

Yeah, that's actually what's bothered me too because it does sound like he says "yep" instead, lmao. But I actually quite like the song and have no qualms about it being his current single.

Mercury's doing a really nice job promoting this single because between the sales and research, there's really nothing warranting this one becoming a hit. "Yup" increased 81 spins and 500k in audience this week, while picking up a space to #36 on MB. The sales are mediocre and the call-out scores on MB are pretty terrible, to be frank. It has a low positive score and one of the highest negatives on the entire call-out chart (22.6%), with a pretty high familiarity for a song that's only inside the top 40 (77%). I think this one will becoming grating on some listeners as time wears on and we'll see just how high Mercury can get "Yup."

Is this one done? Today's update was pretty bad. Maybe, but it's only one day. If Easton see's a great loss of spins and audience tomorrow then they definitely pulled promotion. "Yup" only lost 70k in audience, in addition with its 66 spins lost, so that's not really a good enough indicator its done. We may see confirmation tomorrow, though. "Yup" has been stuck in the low 30's on MB for a month now and it just isn't getting the conversions right now. Its also testing pretty bad as it currently has the second highest negative score on Mediabase's Call-out Research and has a relatively high burn rate and familiarity for a song that hasn't gotten out of the top 40.

Why the heck does this one have such a high negative rating? I can understand that many won't be passionate about it, but there's really doesn't seem to be anything polarizing or particularly grating about this song. I guess some people just find the hook to be a little corny?

It's heavy burn rate and familiarity are higher on that particular research than "Beautiful Drug" by Zac Brown Band for example, which is currently in the top 20 and has been spun over three times as much as "Yup", and has six times the total audience.

I really want this song to leave soon as for the past it feels like it's barely been in the Top 40 and honestly "Yup" is just taking up chart space and I can't wait to see this song fall.

Obviously the song has to be at least somewhat grating (for me personally I don't really see it, lol) for it to be ranking poorly on the call-out, but I don't think it's because of the title. Joe Nichols had a big smash hit with "Yeah" just a year ago and the title being "Yup" really doesn't makes sense as a reason for not liking the song. I'm starting to put less stock in those figures anyway though after seeing the huge discrepancy for "I Got the Boy" in them and seeing high negatives that don't accurately reflect the popularity of the song (the one that has it ranked #2 seem far more appropriate). I don't think they are all that accurate measures of popularity in 2015. Maybe they were once upon a time, but I don't think they work particularly well in today's world.

I don't think they are all that accurate measures of popularity in 2015. Maybe they were once upon a time, but I don't think they work particularly well in today's world. I don't think comparing everything to "I Got The Boy's" research is the best way to assess a song's chart performance like "Yup." Obviously people like Jana's song (as evidence by the good sales) but her song is still testing quite poorly on multiple call-out surveys and "I Got The Boy's" burn rate is very high due to its age. "Yup" hasn't been charting anywhere close to what "I Got The Boy" has and Jana's song has roughly 8x the audience that "Yup" has, so there's still many listeners who have not heard Easton's song yet. Therefore, I don't think we can fairly compare the two and draw conclusions from one's research to another. People who are giving Jana's song those high negatives on those certain call-out surveys are doing so because it's a female artist with a very old song. "Yup" on the other hand is being sung by a male and has been heard by far less people, yet is showing above-average negative and even above-average burn rate. It's impossible to know for sure why Easton's song has mediocre call-out scores but the song's title and corniness is just my own personal opinion. Call-out scores and research are looked at closely by radio stations. There's just too much money to be lost from their audience and advertisers to not exercise every way to assess what their listeners want to hear. Your opinion that they're not a good measure for radio might be right but they are still looked at. Jana's radio promotion team is likely giving stations anything except money for this final push (tickets, interviews, merch, albums, etc.) for the airplay those stations are giving "I Got The Boy". Radio wants to desperately let go of that song and they know that their time will finally come after the 18th, so that's why they are letting Warner Music push for airplay. I like Easton's song but it really hasn't done much of anything for him since it has been released. It's selling bad and it has tested below-average. Perhaps they can get this a little higher but I don't see this one being a hit for Easton.

I just don't know why the label is still trying with this song. It hasn't been moving now for a long time it's on Week 26. I just don't get it.
Also am I the only one who thinks Easton relevance is drawing to an end soon. I don't know I just feel like he's in the twilight phase of his career. Maybe it's the rather poor album sales I don't know just a feeling.

I simply think that the wrong single choice was made here. A song like "Kiss Me One More Time" or the title track would've had a better shot on the charts. I personally find "Yup" to be (one of) the weakest on the album and was incredibly puzzled when it was announced as a single last year. I also don't think "Yup" is a good representation for the album itself and virtually every other song might have gotten him another top 20.

I really though that after the big worldwide success of the "Are You With Me" remix, he would release it to country radio. Instead, we ended up getting this non-event song which ended up going nowhere. I like Easton but this era was such a big succession of mistakes in terms of single choices in my opinion...

I honestly don't think single choice would have made too much difference here. This one initially had decent sales for such low AirPlay. I think the nearly 50 weeks charting for "Baby Be My Love Song" affected this one's performance a lot, and I doubt any other singles would have faired drastically better.

Instead, we ended up getting this non-event song which ended up going nowhere. I like Easton but this era was such a big succession of mistakes in terms of single choices in my opinion... I agree with you. I really think that Easton's career has been mismanaged big-time this era, and probably last era too. I'm not sure why they balked at releasing "Are You With Me" last time, and now they've balked again at the chance to release it. It just doesn't make any sense. They should understand by now that Easton is probably only guaranteed one hit per album, and it'll take a long time to become a hit. I realize he had two hits from his last album, but I don't think the 2nd one is ever gonna be guaranteed. In this case, they should have released "Are You With Me" right after "Baby Be My Love Song". "Yup" isn't a bad song, but it's really just generic radio fodder, and as it turns out, it's not even researching all that well with listeners. Easton needed to have a game-changer after "Baby Be My Love Song", not some generic song that no one will care about a year from now. He doesn't have a lot of options as far as game-changers go, but "Are You With Me" is the song that needed to be released. The only other option was probably "Like A Song". Sure, both of those songs would probably be a little bit riskier, but those are the types of songs that Easton needs to be releasing...not songs like "Yup". I think either of those two songs would have done more for his album sales, which, by the way, are atrocious. About To Get Real has only sold about 55,000 total copies. New artists aren't selling much these days but that's pretty pitiful. I really like Easton, and I find what's happened to his career to be really unfortunate. Five years ago it looked like he was gonna be the next big thing. I realize that traditional country hasn't exactly been "in" these last few years, but it seemed like Easton could maybe beat the odds. I don't think About To Get Real is a bad album, but there are too many throwaway songs on it (Guys and Girls, Diggin' On You, Baby Be My Love Song, Yup, Damn Girl, Just Add Water). Are they radio-friendly songs? I suppose. But there really isn't anything interesting about any of them...they're not gonna help his career. He's better than these types of songs. And so by recording them, Easton certainly isn't developing as an artist. If anything, they're just bro-lite songs (masked somewhat by traditional country instrumentation) that are hindering Easton's potential. At this point I'd be surprised if there's another single from this album. I'm simply hoping that he gets at least one more album with Mercury, and it'll be a critical album as to where his career goes from here. He needs to find stronger material and release better singles.

I just don't get it why they would add it again to a new album to simply ignore for a second time. I like Easton a lot as well but it's really frustrating how his carreer has been managed...

While I love the melody and overall style of the song, I have been hearing it on the radio and the YUUUUUP (or 'YEP' lol whatever) is turning out to be extremely grating and makes him and the song sound stupid. It's borderline cringe-worthy for me, and I'm sure it's already there for others. I can't remember the other songs on the album, but even so I'm fairly confident in saying there was a better choice for a single than this one.

Yeah I agree. "Are You With Me" should have been released. Easton wanted to put that song on the third album, after it being on his second album. It's kind of sad to see that he can't say,"No I want to release "Are You With Me" instead".

I'm confused as to why "Are You with Me" wound up on his latest album again if they weren't going to release it (I suppose they still could, but his momentum is down a lot now if "Yup" is done/about done), but it's also one of my least-favorite Easton Corbin songs, so I won't complain if it remains an album track yet again, lol.

Did this get a premature yank from Billboard? It had a bullet last week... It was at 26 weeks so it was eligible for recurrency and well Billboard committed. Right, but it still doesn't make sense. This one has a bullet of 95 on Mediabase as of today, and it gained over 340k in audience over the last 7 days. I suppose it's possible that it actually lost audience on Billboard, and that it gained 100+ spins and 500k+ in audience on Mediabase-only stations, but that seems highly unlikely. This was most likely another glaring mistake on Billboard's part. I'm 99% sure of it.Edit: Nevermind, scratch that part above. After some digging, I found that Easton did gain 472k from Westwood One's Hot Country Station this week (12 first time spins there), so if you subtract that from 340k, then his 7-day net gain on Mediabase was actually about -130k. So he probably lost between 100k and 200k on Billboard, but still, he should have gotten a grace week. I'm pretty sure this one got 4 adds today, so I'm already anticipating another "Night's On Fire" / "(This Ain't No) Drunk Dial"-type of situation.
