They are getting drunk to drown their sorrows and so many country songs have gone that route that this shouldn't even be a thing. That said I don't see it as immature the fact that they are getting me drunk together is because they were their alone and they don't have to go home alone and depressed they say put your drink down and camera up so obviously the need to move on is more important than drinking. And yes their idea of moving is to prove it to an ex that obviously hurt them as they feel it will hurt them back no two wrong don't make a right but honestly this can't be a gage of weather they are mature or not because plenty of mature people still crave revenge. You're assuming that their exes hurt them. How do we know Luke and Karen didn't screw the relationship up themselves? Maybe they are just so immature that their behavior is what ended the relationship? You might think my position is crazy, but it's no less crazy than yours. Side note: I can't believe we're having a philosophical debate on Luke Bryan. You know that is a completely logical way to look at it and I guess from that aspect it's open to interpretation

I'm always of the belief that (almost) any discussion is a good discussion and we shouldn't restrict our discourse just because we perhaps aren't discussing "Strip it Down" since I think you guys brought up a good conversation.
I never got the impression that the narrator had been cheated on, just that they want payback. Could be for anything. And yes, I think most of us can agree that the chorus describes a pretty immature situation. It doesn't describe "drinking your sorrows away" which would be an acceptable response, I think. Clearly the narrator (and friend) were not too emotionally invested in the relationship if they are so quickly out gallivanting at the bar doing shots and going home with complete strangers just to piss off their ex. Jody Stevens has first writing credit on that one, so it's no surprise that this is a "younger" subject matter (albeit immature for anybody).
Unfortunately I do expect "Home Alone Tonight" to get released as a single just due to its popularity so far and the fact that it's a duet. Hopefully I'll be wrong because there are obviously better options on the record.
Luke is very fond of both "Move" and "Huntin', Fishin', and Lovin' Every Day" so I also wouldn't be surprised if those got the nod, with the former being almost a shoe-in, I'd guess, and the latter being more of a long-shot unless Luke pushes for it.
And as a side note, while some of his subject matter may indeed be damning to his "maturity" let's not act like every single person on this board has never experienced moments of immaturity in their lives. And most importantly let's remember that Luke is a well-meaning and intelligent human being who has overcome numerous emotional tragedies, and not some airheaded partyboy as some people like to believe.

I think some may be reading too much into the lyrics for "Home Alone Tonight." A guy and a girl meet at a bar, both depressed after a breakup, and they get drunk with each other, forget their exes, etc. It's really supposed to be a fun and innocent yet also uplifting song. Is it immature to send your ex a pic of you hooking up with someone new? Maybe, but I don't think the lyrics are expected to be scrutinized and I doubt anyone's trying to endorse cruel behavior. I personally love the song and particularly appreciate the conversational arrangement of the lyrics. I would have preferred a booty call song but I'll be very happy if HAT is a single at some point. One doesn't necessarily want a serious relationship or even feel emotionally connected to the individual, but sometimes it makes one feel a temporary sense of security at a time when one may feel emotional instability. And in "Home Alone Tonight"'s case, it's not that either party involved is taking advantage of the other, since both appear to be using each other for the same purpose. Maybe this is a bad habit, but the point I'm getting at here is it is that this course of action is often a resort for people even if they were extremely emotionally invested in the previous relationship, and one could hypothetically remain emotionally connected to one's ex even long after the "rebound" affair/relationship is over. It's not just about pissing off an ex; it's about connecting with another person who can relate to your current emotional state. Of course, now I've just read too much into these lyrics after just commenting that others seemed to be doing so, lol. #Hypocrite "Strip It Down" continues to pull further away from its competition on the airplay charts. I don't know when FGL's going to start making up all the ground they've lost on Luke thanks to Big Machine's chart machinations a few weeks ago. Literally every day Luke just pulls further away, and now he's 1000 spins and 7 million audience ahead of FGL on Mediabase. I'm just hoping Big Machine can maneuver "Anything Goes" as well as they did "Sun Daze" and keep AG gaining steadily through the top-5 until SID starts falling, which may be after spending three weeks at #1. AG does still have a ton of ground to gain before reaching #1 levels, so I'm not too worried about the bottom caving in, though.

AG does still have a ton of ground to gain before reaching #1 levels, so I'm not too worried about the bottom caving in, though. I agree that they probably intended for the song to fun and innocent, but that one line just ruins it for me. If I remember correctly, you said you found the lyrics in Kacey Musgraves "Biscuits" to be too preachy, but that song was intended to be playful and innocent as well, while still getting a message across. Don't take any offense for me bringing it up, and if I'm wrong please correct me, but what I'm trying to say is sometimes the lyrics of a song can really ruin it for you. To me, I just cringe every time I hear that line about sending a picture to their ex. If the song was better in production and had a stronger chorus I could overlook some of these things, but it sounds like they made the song in 15 minutes IMO. As for FGL, it wouldn't surprise me if they are trying to keep the distance between "Anything Goes" and "Strip It Down" on purpose. Luke will easily get 2 weeks if he really wants it, so they need to leave enough room for them to grow once Luke hits the top so they can avoid another "Play It Again"/"This Is How We Roll" scenario. I think "Anything Goes" is good shape. What I'm hoping for is that Luke passes Brett next week and doesn't play nice. Don't have the numbers this week, but hopefully he's eased the gap on Billboard a bit and just guns for #1 next week at least on Billboard, and maybe allow Brett to get the #1 on MB only. It could be a shot in the dark, but I'd love to see the chart get cleared up a bit.

I've tried to give this song time to grow on me but it didn't work. This one bores me to tears. I don't find the melody to be anything special and even though I think Luke has a good vocals, having him sing a song like this does nothing for me.
It's in line to hit #1 on both charts in two weeks, which would mean it took just 11 weeks to hit the top...which is okay by me since that will mean it will leave heavy rotation fairly quick.

I'm actually wondering if Lukes label tries for 2 weeks as there's no immediate threats and the songs young enough to go a few weeks at the top just a thought since it's going to be a little bit before Luke hosts CCUSA and even afterwards I think Luke can hold on for a while and block Chase Rice and FGL because Chase is running out of time as he's hosting a week from now and Luke is the week afterwards so Luke has some time as I can see Luke jumping the gun this upcoming week and aim for the top with Brett Eldredge. Now I am most curious is FGL hosting CCUSA or are they not like Blake Shelton after Luke is Carrie Underwood and we still have no information if FGL is hosting CCUSA so I am curious how the next few weeks between Luke/Brett/FGL/Old Dominion/Cole/Carrie/Chase as Brett is way ahead but he has to peak next week or else he won't get the top. How long does Luke stay at the top 1 week? Maybe 2 weeks or does he go the 3 week route what's FGL plan with no hosting thing coming up with Old Dominion still staying on FGL toes does FGL pull back and let Old Dominion pass them how about Cole staying right behind the pack waiting to strike on the Sony songs and Carrie who is soon hosting CCUSA does she go in front of Old Dominion or is she gonna have her work cut for her and finally Chase Rice how far can he get into the Top 5 does he have a shot at a BB #1. All the songs right now are in a battle and it looks to be introduced starting in the next few weeks.

Anyway, if Luke Bryan blocks Florida Georgia Line from the top. it'll be the second time he's done so. Last year, Play It Again was tops while FGL had to settle for second with This Is How We Roll (that was a duet with Bryan). When Bryan collects his 13th #1 hit, he'll move past Rascal Flatts for the first time in the #1s thread (he'll be at #43 while they will be at #44).

Also I can speak for ever when we say we are thankful that This Is How We Roll was not a number 1.

Glad to see a #2 there as well. However, they managed another three chart toppers.

I'm late to the party because I never bother reading a Luke Bryan thread since I really dislike his songs (except perhaps Do I) and can't stand his voice-it is too thin and nasally for my ears. That said, I had to pop in on this one and say I have the opposite experience you have! Despite my knee jerk negative reaction to any Luke song this one has won me over. Not sure what it is exactly since I still don't enjoy his voice-but this song is really sweet and has grown on me-I think the tempo, stripped production compared to some and just the cadence reminds me of a nice romantic old fashioned slow dance song.

This has grown on me a lot too (though I do like Luke). I didn't love it when I first heard it and, while it's still not among my favourites, I like it a lot better now. The melody has really grown on me.

While I enjoyed this quite a bit upon it first being released, this song has not worn well with me over the past few weeks (the same can be said for the album as well). There might be a time on a cold winter night sitting in front of the fireplace where I'll put this kind of song on, but overall I'm bored with it.

I feel the same, tim. I've been hearing this a lot lately and it just makes me roll my eyes...especially the 2nd verse about dropping a cell phone so that it shatters on the ground. Why would anyone do that? LOL. I sort of like the production here, but I don't think Luke sounds that good. To my ears, he sounds kind of sleepy, and I find the songwriting to be really lazy. There are just some really awkward lines in this one. They just don't seem to fit together very well, and it doesn't help that some of the lyrics are quite silly.

For me, this song is just an example of our supposed "leader" of the genre copying others. This is just another slow jam sex song in the vein of "Burnin' It Down" and "Like A Wrecking Ball". Is it better than those two? Barely (though I know many will disagree with me on the latter). But still, when the leader of the genre is chasing the trends, what exactly does that say?

When the line about his belt coming undone hits I cringe every time. It just sounds so sleazy. Like when Aldean sings about the girl "lying naked in my bed."

"Naked in my bed" didn't bother me any in Burnin' It Down.
However, the lines about belts and cell phones in this one just come off as awkward. I do like that Luke is attempting something at least marginally different for him, and I wouldn't call it a ripoff of Burnin' It Down or Like a Wrecking Ball since those songs had markedly different production.

So is this one going to be content with 1 week or will they go for 2? Its still such a young song, I hope they push for multiple weeks, especially since its one of the biggest hits of the year.

Luke's song should get at least 2 weeks on both charts. SID is just under 8300 spins with still room to grow. Recent chart toppers from Keith Urban and Kenny Chesney got over 8700 spins with Keith going over 8800. Chase Rice's song should start falling this week and with FGL still about 800 spins behind I don't think there's any way they can catch Luke, so MB should see their first multi week #1 since ZBB did it in April with "Homegrown"

"Strip It Down" still has a little wiggle room to grow (ever so slightly), so this will most likely be a 2 week #1.
Wow though. This is my least favorite top 5 on MB I can remember. I'm sure there's been some cringe-worthy top 5's over the past three years but man, this week's is pretty abysmal, imo.

Continuing on my previous thought, I've noticed all the more that Luke has a painfully narrow vocal range. Didn't they recently analyze him and say that his range is the narrowest among a sample of current hit-makers? In relation, he doesn't have much emotional variation either. I can tell that he's trying to sing this one more softly than usual, but his lack of range (both musically and emotionally) holds him back. If he were a more competent singer, I might take the shattered cell phone line a little better; a better vocalist might give it a mix of playfulness and urgency that could make that line work, and not feel jarringly out-of-place. On the other hand, Luke does seem to have a somewhat above average understanding of music theory. "Country Girl (Shake It for Me)" is in Dorian mode, and both "I Don't Want This Night to End" and "Kiss Tomorrow Goodbye" have slight melodic variations that leave them not quite in major or minor key. Also, the riff to "Kick the Dust Up" is on a pentatonic scale, which is why it kind of has that "Oriental" feel to it. He doesn't do this kind of thing in every song, but I really doubt that someone could back into that kind of thing so many times by accident. Looking at the sheet music to his other songs, I see somewhat more variation overall. For instance, "I See You" has a strong structure to its melody, but it's a structure that seems to have thought put into it; it isn't a repetitive so-mi-so-mi-so-mi-so like "Over" or nearly anything written by Casey Beathard. His melodies also tend to match up to the chords better than usual, compared to some other writers (for comparison, there are some F chords in "Cruise" that don't really fit into the melody), and there isn't a lot of the "put the melody an eighth-note off the beat" thing that a lot of less melodically minded writers do. Even if he didn't write the song, it usually has a strong melody to it, such as (gag) "That's My Kind of Night". tl;dr: Luke has 99 problems, but melodic structure ain't one.

He'll get one week at Mediabase, since I See You lost 848 spins after its single week at #1, so Chase Rice figures to be #1 by the end of this week, at least at Mediabase.

I'm not so sure, I think Chase Rice will plummet. He already lost over 100 spins today, and I would imagine that he'll freefall over the course of the week. I think a second week at #1 for Luke is pretty likely, unless FGL really pick it up this week.

First of all, as far as pitch range capability and what they acually cut on record and release to radio, I don't think anyone can touch Chris Young. He's got over two octaves solid. Only current guys I can think of who are close are Blake and Brett Eldredge. You'll notice I'm not mentioning any of the really high voices like Gary Levox (who is unreal btw) because you don't hear them a lot down low. The ones who really have the range are strong baritones who can still get up in the rafters. I don't really hear Luke being particularly limited on the high end. Really its that you dont hear him sing low much. Best example I could think of was "Rain Is a Good Thing" and that's not really that low. Luke is just a nice solid country tenor and kind of stays there and sounds like Luke no matter what he does. And it works pretty well for him. I think that same formula has worked well for the two elder statesmen of current country, Mr. McGraw and Mr. Chesney.

He has a similar high end to them and Luke, but I have never heard him hit anything that could be considered a low note. The one I would add to your list is Josh Turner! His high belting range caps off a couple notes lower than Chris', but he can also go a few notes lower as well, so the range is still very much there. As far as Luke is concerned, he does have a nice enough voice, but I agree that he could emote a lot more when he sings. He could be so much better if he used more emotional range... Jason Aldean is in the exact same boat. I would say that Blake has a very similar range to them, but he pours a LOT more personality into his vocal performances, making him seem like a more dynamic vocalist.

You're right, Josh Turner does have very good (and oft overlooked) range. I still contend though, regarding Blake, that his wild and crazy persona and beyond-country celebrity status make people forget or overlook how good of a singer he really is. Give some of his songs another listen and hear how good he is in both his baritone and upper ranges. It's not easy for someone with his pitch of speaking and natural singing voice to get way up there and just stay there (like on "Mine Would Be You" or, dare I even mention, "Over").

Announcing the new single tomorrow? Announcing a new tour? I don't think it'll be a new single quite yet since "Strip It Down" is pushing for a second week at #1, with the 'Going Strong' statement from Capitol Nashville tonight. It will probably be a new tour or something else.
