The new 'countrier' version makes this song so much better. It's actually tolerable and maybe even fairly enjoyable now. I'm pretty impressed by how much better it sounds on the new recording.

The acoustic version coveys a hell of a lot more emotion than the studio version, which comes off more as the narrator just being a creepy d**k. It completely changes the aura of the song. That's what was once great about country music. You not only felt emotion through stories but you felt it through music. The acoustic version has given me a brand new outlook on the song. The burning acoustic guitar in the single cover...paired with the haunting steel that you can hear throughout the ENTIRE song...really shows what kind of heartache the narrator is going through.
I'm somewhat surprised it wasn't originally released on the acoustic album Sam just put out. Maybe they are getting some backlash from radio like Zac Brown apparently was.

"Raised on It" managed to randomly sneak onto the airplay chart at #57 this week. That would be thanks to WFUS in Tampa and WUBL in Atlanta, who have accounted for 93 spins and over 1.2 million in MB audience over the past seven days. They've been spinning that for quite a while. WUBL has spun both "Break Up In A Small Town" and "Raised On It" nearly 100 times combined this week..whereas WFUS has largely ignored "Break Up In A Small Town."

Does that mean one of those stations got tipped off that "Raised On It" is the next single? It seems pretty unlikely that they just decided to start playing an album track that much, no matter how popular Sam Hunt is.

Those stations have been giving "Raised On It" spins for a very long time but they've finally given the song so much that it charts. Don't think that signals it's the next single but who knows.
I never thought Sam had the best vocals, personally. He's a good enough vocalist but he can get pretty brutal live, imo. The transitions from talking the lyrics to singing them are a big reason why I don't care for his songs.

Next single better be "Make You Miss Me". The album has such fantastic diversity, and I really wish he'd release something to radio to show that off to the general public. "Make You Miss Me" (or perhaps "Speakers" - acoustic version) need to be released to differentiate from the first 4 singles.
I had the pleasure of hearing "Make You Miss Me" in concert and his live vocals are absolutely outstanding! It was his pure vocals with an acoustic guitar, and you could hear a pin drop because audience was so mesmerized. My favorite part was the lyrical interpretation and emotion throughout the song. Really wish it's on his regular setlist instead of an encore performance that he rarely performs.
Hopefully he gets to show that side of his performance ability at Grammys or ACMs, but "Make You Miss Me" needs to be released to radio first for that to happen!

^^why are we still letting this guy represent country music? Every time I watch him live I'm not sure whether I should be angry, disappointed, or embarassed. He's definitely a "studio" artist. Not that he's a bad performer, it just really misses the mark sonically live. Couldn't help but laugh through the first verse when everyone is waving their hands back and forth. Like, to what? There's no consistent beat or melody, Sam can't decide whether he is singing, talking, whispering, or yelling, and his tempo was all over the place. At least the CD version is bearable. I think the big problem is that I'm not sure what type of song Break Up in a Small Town is. Or if it's even a song at all. I'm not sure he sings for the majority of the song. So I can't quite call it a song. If Hunt was trying to make this a rap, he has zero flow and it doesn't work that way. If this was supposed to be slam poetry, then why sing the chorus? BUIAST is just a misshapen lump that doesn't know what it's trying to be.

Say what you want about this, but I still think it's a good song.
This is now #32 on the Hot 100 in its 12th week.

I might've been in the minority by really liking the album version, but I agree that the new one that was released is miles better... and this is probably turning into my favorite song right now.

This song is apart of the identity crisis that Country radio is going through right now. I think Traditional Country will come out as a winner though, R&B and EDM inspired Country will be dead real soon. People are gonna get sick of hearing songs such as this one. Anyway I predict 2016 will bring about a lot of good songs with really great lyrics and a back to traditional roots sound.

I thought this would go as far as Top 10, but it is already #5 and it doesn't seem like it's going to lose steam anytime soon. This one is probably going all the way to #1, not sure how soon it'll get there though.
Just curious - does anyone know if there are plans by MCA for this to crossover to Pop/HAC?

I think "Raised On It" is looking likely, with the adds and spins it's been pulling in.

I think "Raised On It" is looking likely, with the adds and spins it's been pulling in. Yeah, given the adds and airplay that it's gotten, "Raised On It" definitely seems like a possibility, but I wonder if it's just some stations playing it as an 'alternate single' to "Break Up In A Small Town". BUIAST seems to be researching just fine but I do think there are some programmers that would rather give their audience something with a bit more of a country sound to it, and "Raised On It" is just that. One of the stations around here has actually been playing "Raised On It" for a long time now, and they always introduce it as 'the latest from Sam Hunt'. They haven't played "Break Up In A Small Town" at all. "Raised On It" was of course a SiriusXM single prior to Sam signing with MCA Nashville, but I still think the label would consider it for the 5th single, especially with the airplay it's gotten so far. I think "Raised On It" would be a hit, but so would "Make You Miss Me". Heck, at this point, Sam's proven that pretty much anything from Montevallo will be a hit if it's released. They won't release "Cop Car" and I don't think "Speakers" or "Ex to See" will be singles, but if there's a 5th single (and I think there will be), then "Raised On It", "Make You Miss Me", and even "Single For The Summer" would all be viable options. I'm still surprised that they haven't tried for more crossover airplay with any of the singles from Montevallo. Maybe they'll wait until after the Grammy's? (I'm betting Sam will perform there). Most of the songs on Montevallo just seem perfectly tailored for some Pop/Hot AC airplay...I know he's gotten some airplay there, but I keep expecting even more than what he's gotten so far.

This song has just crossed a million downloads this week... 4th single in a row to do so! Montevallo must be close to getting 1 million pure album sales as well.

"House Party" gets a ton of SXM Hits 1 AirPlay. As for next, if they go from this album (That's a big "if"), It is likely to be "Ex To See" or "Make You Miss Me." I would love Single For The Summer to be the single but It's the lowest selling song on the album.

The acoustic version coveys a hell of a lot more emotion than the studio version, which comes off more as the narrator just being a creepy d**k. I don't think he's being a creepy dick at all. The song is about unintentionally running into his former lover over and over again, which as I said before, is very easy to do in a small town. I don't read anything creepy or dickish in the lyrics at all, nor do I see how anyone else could, and I actually find the lyric quite real even if the song's actual style is polarizing. Also rsmatto is contrary to the norm a lot, but then again, so am I. I was the only one who thought "Bob That Head" was okay, remember?

One of the biggest problems I had with "Bob That Head" was that opening vocal...excruciating. The other big problem was that it was released to radio in the first place, and flamed out in the teens (rightfully so). "Break Up In A Small Town" and "Bob That Head" have one unified thing in common -- I turn the dial every time I hear them come on my speakers.
