The acoustic version coveys a hell of a lot more emotion than the studio version, which comes off more as the narrator just being a creepy d**k. I don't think he's being a creepy dick at all. The song is about unintentionally running into his former lover over and over again, which as I said before, is very easy to do in a small town. I don't read anything creepy or dickish in the lyrics at all, nor do I see how anyone else could, and I actually find the lyric quite real even if the song's actual style is polarizing. Also rsmatto is contrary to the norm a lot, but then again, so am I. I was the only one who thought "Bob That Head" was okay, remember? Oh trust me, my town's got about 1,500 people in it so I know how that goes. You're always seeing people you know. On one hand that's a great thing but on the other (in Sam's case) not so great. I was never questioning the lyrics or the story, just his delivery which I feel really changes in the acoustic version. I almost perceive an entirely different emotion. The studio version comes off more angry or vengeful while I legitimately feel bad for the narrator in the acoustic version--I feel his pain. For what it's worth, I like singing to this one so I'm not bashing it. I just thought it was shocking how different the versions were in terms of vocal/emotional delivery.

I'd be happy with "Ex To See" as the next single (or even "Single For The Summer"), but "Raised On It" makes the most sense to me at this point. I guess we'll see what happens.

No way they release, "Ex To See." The whole song is a play on words about a drug.

Given the fact that this is a hit (unfortunately) and Sam Hunt having so much momentum he could release anything and it'd go to the top (why isn't this on the pop charts instead of the country charts)

Saw this ad in Country Aircheck today: If this is indeed "push week" for BUIAST, it's not off to a very good start. Sam started the week 200 points behind Luke on Mediabase, and so far Luke has only pulled farther ahead in points (according to Aircheck's "Top Points Gainers" section in their daily email) and especially audience. BUIAST did increase by 98 spins today which is 38 more than Luke gained, but Sam's audience gain today was a tiny 11k. One thing that's hurting this song's #1 chances is that not every station is playing it. Out of the 157 stations on the Mediabase panel, only 154 have added this one and given it airplay. I'm assuming that the 3 stations that haven't added it are playing "Raised On It" instead (a total of 9 stations have added ROI). It might not sound like much for 3 stations out of 157 to not be playing this one, but it can easily be the difference in getting to #1 or coming up short. I can't remember the last time that a top 10 single wasn't being played by every station on the panel. Most songs clear the panel (or are on like 98% of the stations) by the time they reach top 20. Both Thomas Rhett and Brothers Osborne should drop below Sam this week, but that only gets him up to #2. He needs to start gaining quite a bit more if he's gonna re-pass Luke. They're very close in total spins (Luke has just 19 more total spins than Sam does) and the points gap wouldn't be that tough to overcome if this is indeed a "max spins" situation for BUIAST (it helps that both Sam and Luke are UMG artists...Capitol could easily hold Luke back just a bit to allow Sam to sneak ahead on Mediabase). So I definitely think the Mediabase #1 is within Sam's reach this week, but that would probably mean a #2 peak on Billboard. Luke led Sam by almost 3 million on last night's Billboard chart and he's only pulling away. It doesn't seem possible for Sam to jump Luke on Billboard this week, so if this is Sam's push week, he's probably looking at a #2 peak on Billboard while potentially scoring the Mediabase #1 on Sunday. BUIAST would then start falling next week. Having Luke score multiple weeks at #1 on Billboard and having Sam settle for a Mediabase-only #1 might very well be UMG's plan.

I know Take your time stalled at no.27 on CHR/pop after its run at country. But in my opinion his team would be crazy not to push this to hot Ac and CHR/pop radio. Im starting to like this song but I hate the video. The pixilation of the ex to me is crazy, and burning the house is overdramatic(it only worked for Martina mcbride and cam in my opinion in their videos and song story plots) I'm sorry but it is(but I can't get mad at Sam and the director because they were all drinking with Florida Georgia line after FGL video for stay was shot and the trailer exploded and caught fire after that breakup plot few years back) . The video should've been a fight between him and the friend and he gets the girl back. It may have been too obvious but Come on. Anyways this song has to get pushed to hot ac and ac radio if it can't crossover to pop.

It doesn't look like this is push week for Sam based on this morning's update...
Luke/Karen gained 166 spins while Sam only gained 49. Maybe they're pushing next week? Then it doesn't really make sense have the ad out this week so idk what MCA's trying to do.

Then it doesn't really make sense have the ad out this week so idk what MCA's trying to do. It is interesting. You'd think UMG would have wanted Sam to go up ahead of Luke, because I think "Home Alone Tonight" has the makings of a 2-3 week #1. Sam's song would probably get at most 1 week at the top and then would start to drop quickly. But with the way things are going, it doesn't look like they have a choice...Luke's gonna get there first, which means Sam might not get there at all. There is a big gap from Sam back to Granger Smith, and an even bigger gap back to Kelsea/Keith/Randy/Carrie, but I just don't think BUIAST is going to last all that much longer. This week will mark its 21st week on the Billboard chart, and I think it'll be on its way down by week 23, if not before. But maybe "Home Alone Tonight" will go 1-and-done at the top? That doesn't seem very likely to me, but I suppose it's possible.

It would be wonderful if they went with Single for the Summer (strongest lyrical effort on the album by quite some margin) but I doubt its gonna happen. I think Make You Miss Me would be a nice change of pace and is one of the better songs on the album

Were they going for MB only #1 this week? If so they just missed it, apparently. I think Luke has a better chance of staying for more than one week than Sam.

"Break Up In A Small Town" should peak at #2 on Mediabase since this was its push week according to the Aircheck email ad. This song gained 700 spins and over 4.0 million in audience this week (those are numbers that indicate a peak week) and today's update of Sam gaining nearly 170 spins and 1.1 million in audience tells me that UMG tried like hell to get Sam that MB #1 yesterday but came up short.
The problem was this song didn't start the week off good in terms of spins and audience gains. It certainly finished strong but Luke's song was such a naturally big hit that it just ended up getting too many spins from stations over the past seven days for BUIAST to overcome.

I have rather mixed feelings on this probably missing the top. On the one hand this song is garbage pure garbage, horrible spoken word, no country elements, the lyrics at time I find cringe inducing, oh and the dubstep chorus which just no!
Now on the other hand this song has had such fantastic sales (probably more to do with pop music fans) and if I recall correctly the callout scores weren't all that bad either.
I'm glad it missed on an opinion front but this just by all accounts had the indication it would be a #1.

I am actually disappointed that this song is missing #1 to the mediocre "Home Alone Tonight". I know I might be playing Devil's Advocate by saying that, but in my opinion this song is better. It is sure as heck not a song that should have been released to country radio to begin with, but I am able to see past that and accept the fact that it is doing well. The last thing Luke needs is another easy #1 with subpar phoned-in material, and it honestly makes me mad that it now looks like his song is going to be a multi-week #1...
Also I have been hearing BUIAST all over the radio for months. I hear HAT probably once for every 3 times I hear BUIAST. So from my perspective BUIAST has felt like a bigger hit, which deserves to go #1 more. Or at least get one week at the top, because there is no way that Luke's song feels like a multi-week #1... At least not according to the opinion I have formed from listening to the country stations in my area.

I agree....I actually really like this song, and it'll be disappointing if it doesn't make it to #1. Maybe it can hang on and do so next week? I agree that it doesn't look all that likely, with the big gains that it's made the last couple of days. I'd so much rather this be #1 than "Home Alone Tonight".

Hmmm...you're all making good points about the ads and the late-week spin gains for "Break Up..." but on the other hand, Sam Hunt is co-hosting Country Countdown USA this weekend, which will primarily impact next week's Mediabase chart (and this week's Billboard chart, but I don't see how "Break Up..." has a chance of a Billboard #1 this week). I guess it's possible that MCA Nashville had originally targeted next week's Mediabase chart (hence the CCUSA scheduling) but then got word from radio that they wanted to let this song go sooner. Tuesday morning's Mediabase update will be the final tell, I suppose. I don't mind "Break Up..." as a song, whereas I actively dislike "Home Alone Tonight." And to be frank, I don't hear how "Home Alone Tonight" is any more country than "Break Up..." ("Break Up..." does sound more out there, but it would sound out there on any format). Both songs are so far from anything that I would consider country in sensibility that I can't work up a sense of injustice if one's airplay performance doesn't match its big-time commercial impact.

Luke is co-hosting next week so he'll get some extra spins while Sam will lose some so it'll take even more work for that to work out. Personally I don't care as both songs in my opinion suck.

I'm not sure if there are wires being crossed here so the following is for clarity's sake: while it's true that the acoustic version being played as the extra spin speaks to a Mediabase-only plan, the primary impact of the extra CCUSA spin for Sam will be on the Mediabase chart published on 8 February 2016, not the one coming Monday (for which Luke/Karen have already wrapped up the #1, as someguy pointed out). CCUSA airs on most stations on Sunday, which means that the bulk of the acoustic spins for "Break Up..." will count for the first day of the new Mediabase week running 31 January-6 February 2016.

I think though that when CCUSA has the acoustic version and not the studio I think that's more indicative the label wants the Mediabase #1 and if they can get the BB then great if not oh well. It just so happens to be one of the stations here where I live plays CCUSA on Saturday. I do have it to where there's a radio program called New Music Nashville where they also play an acoustic version of the song last week they played Brothers Osborne so I imagine this week it's Sam Hunt's turn. Then they'll do Luke and so on and so forth that show is also really indicative of what song is about ready to peak.

I wouldn't mind seeing last year's #1 country album be the 38th in history to contain a quartet of #1s. Sam Hunt is definitely on a roll here. Platinum certification should be any day now.

If this is indeed the end of the road for BUIAST, I'm very surprised that UMG couldn't convince radio to hold "Home Alone Tonight" back just a little bit. "Home Alone Tonight" is backed by Capitol Nashville and BUIAST is backed by MCA Nashville, but both promo teams fall under the UMG umbrella, and both songs are so far ahead of Granger Smith that they could have easily divvied up the next 3 weeks at #1. Granger probably won't get to #1 for a few weeks yet (he's still about 1300 spins behind Luke), which is just fine by his label, since Granger's album doesn't street until March 4.
I know some stations aren't even spinning BUIAST (as I noted in a previous post), but still, I thought Sam would be able to get back ahead of Luke, at least for a day or two at the end of the chart week. The updates this past week read more like two labels (ie, UMG and Sony or UMG and Warner) competing against each other for the #1 spot, rather than two UMG songs simply occupying the top 2 spots (a scenario in which you'd expect the label to get both of them some time at #1).
I mean, it doesn't appear that "Home Alone Tonight" slowed down at all. It saw some huge numbers this week, and we just don't see that when two songs from the same label occupy the top 2 spots...usually one of them slows down just a little bit so that the other can get its week at #1 and then move out of the way.
For the record, I don't consider BUIAST a country song either, but it is a song I enjoy quite a bit, whereas I can't stand "Home Alone Tonight". So I would have much rather seen Sam get the #1 spot on both charts instead of Luke, but of course I knew that the realistic best case scenario would be that they'd both get to #1 (there's no way a Luke Bryan single is going to miss the top spot).

Personally, I think this one and "Home Alone Tonight" are both pretty big hits, so ideally they would have both gotten 2 weeks at #1 IMO. Even though I am bummed that Sam missed the top because I love 'BUIAST' and hate 'HAT', I guess I'll root for Luke to get a 2-3 week stay at the top in hopes that it will help continue progress to get rid of the revolving door at the top.

I think Thomas Rhett's amazing six week run at the top got rid of most of that 'revolving door'. That was a pleasure to see that. Rhett and Valory timed that one perfectly.

Maybe we'll see a few 2-3 week #1 hits this year, but for the most part I expect to see a ton of single-week #1's, especially on Mediabase. I don't think one 6-week #1 will suddenly buck the trend.
