I doubt it. Maybe we'll see a few 2-3 week #1 hits this year, but for the most part I expect to see a ton of single-week #1's, especially on Mediabase. I don't think one 6-week #1 will suddenly buck the trend. I don't know look at how well Sony managed to make "Save It For A Rainy Day" "Break Up With Him" and "I'm Coming Over" I can see Sony at least on BB having more multi week #1s. I think this is splitting hairs a bit. Each of those songs only got a single week at #1 on Mediabase. Yes, they were multi-week #1's on Billboard, but I'm sure that other labels will step up and be a bit more competitive if Sony tries to get multiple weeks at #1 with every single. That's why I said we might see "a few 2-3 week #1 hits this year" (at least on Billboard), but for the most part I expect the trend of "new #1 every Sunday on Mediabase" to continue.

And about "Die a Happy Man"'s 6 weeks at the top, I think that the holidays had a lot to do with Thomas staying at the top so long. Under normal circumstances, I think Valory would've taken 3 weeks at BB/2 at Mediabase and let 'DAHM' go, but I belive the effect the holidays have on the charts probably led Valory to decide to milk as many weeks at the top as possible.

The December/January peaking singles always have the advantage of the better chance at score multiple weeks at #1 ("Breathe", "There Goes My Life", "Our Song"). Even ones that peaked just after the start of the year like "19 Somethin'", "Jesus, Take The Wheel" and "Watching You" spent a month and a half at #1. This time of year is just a perfect time for labels to hold the fort at #1 since it takes a couple weeks to get the charts back into the swing of things after the holidays. If you get a naturally big hit like "Die A Happy Man" peaking during the holidays, you get a good chance at a six week chart topper.

Well Sam Hunt was very close to hit the top. Sam and Luke were within a 100 points of each other this week. I'm not going to lie, it was nice to see an actual battle for the top spot. Provided both songs still suck. But I do enjoy see a nice chart battle regardless.

I am with the crowd that likes this song better than Home Alone Tonight. I have seen some people on the HAT thread putting down Lukes vocals on the song, but I am going to stand behind my fellow South Georgian. His vocals ain't the problem. For me the difference betwen these two songs in all of their non-countriness that people have been talking about is their lyrical relatability. Home Alone Tonight - that has never ever happened to me! Breakup in a Small Town - yeah, I totally get that one.

Kworb hasn't updated yet but according to All Access' numbers, "Break Up In A Small Town" lost roughly 50 spins and 300k in audience today. That would signal it's been held to a #2 peak on both charts.

The fact that the exhilarating '19 Somethin'" spent six non-consecutive weeks at #1 thirteen years ago certainly recalls an unusual string of events by (perhaps) tons of over-sensitive MDs and PDs back then; after 5 weeks at #1 @ R&R/Mediabase, that Mark Willis tune lost 600+ spins instantaneously after the Challenger disaster of Jan. 28th, 1986 was referenced in the second verse, allowing Terri Clark's 'I Just Wanna Be Mad' to rise to #1.
Willis' standout single returned to #1 at Mediabase for its sixth and final week after regaining over half of those lost spins the following week, and went on to finish #1 for the year.
If Mr. Rhett's tune manages to finish #1 for the year, it would join two exceptional tunes in 2002'a 'My List','2004's 'Remember When' and 'Watching You' in 2007 in utilizing 4+ week long January runs atop the charts to winding up #1 for the year @ R&R/Mediabase.
I would certainly hope that 'Die A Happy Man' would wind up topping both year end charts as James Otto did in 2008, Atkins in 2007, Craig Morgan in 2005 and Brooks & Dunn in 2001, since it appears destined to receive tons of recurrent airplay over the course of the rest of this year.
Then there's Sam Hunt, who somehow merits airplay on country radio with HIS style of 'music'......

He likely isn't even going to hit #1 with this, so what does BUIAST have to do with Mark Wills' or Thomas Rhett's 6-week #1s, or who finished as song of the year in various years? Edit: And I'm not being disparaging or snarky towards your comment. I actually do think that was a bunch of interesting information! I just fail to see how it connects to BUIAST, as this IS the thread for that :)

To be fair, writing an essay about something completely unrelated to Sam Hunt and then throwing in one line at the end that's a an aimless jab at Sam Hunt's musical style doesn't make it on-topic, either. I was really thinking the same thing bboat11 was when I was reading that post...

"Make You Miss Me" is such a great song. Even as a 5th single, I could see it doing really well. He had a lot of single choices for his last one, and many would have worked, but I think this is the best.

Wow that's extremely disappointing. "Make You Miss Me" is quite boring IMO, and it sounds like a warmed up Hot AC leftover. Thus it will probably be a huge hit.

"Make You Miss Me" is exactly what I wanted for the fifth single, so I'm glad to see them going with that one. It offers something different from him and sounds like the perfect song to close the era on... plus I just love the song. Definitely up there with "House Party" as my favorite release from the album, for sure. It's not hard to predict it'll be a big hit since everything he touches presently turns to gold platinum, but I think this should certainly continue his hot streak while (again) offering something a bit different. Great choice.

"Make You Miss Me" is definitely a great closing single. Even though it's not my favorite that's left, it's still a wonderful choice.

Although I was pulling for "Raised On It" to make its way to terrestrial radio, "Make You Miss Me" is a solid choice.

"Make You Miss Me" is a great choice! I wish they had released "Make You Miss Me" fourth and then "Single for the Summer" as the closing single but I'm not complaining about the single choices this era because many of the songs on the album had single potential.

www.billboard.com/articles/columns/chart-beat/6867165/sam-hunt-montevallo-1-million-soldSam Hunt's 'Montevallo' Hits 1 Million Sold in the U.S.2/5/2016 by Keith Caulfield Sam Hunt claims his first million-selling album, as Montevallo stepped past the million sales threshold in the tracking week ending Jan. 28. The album -- his first full-length studio effort -- sold another 7,000 copies in the frame ending Jan. 28, according to Nielsen Music, bringing its total sales to 1.003 million. The MCA Nashville-released set is the first country album to sell a million copies in the U.S. since the week ending July 23, 2015, when Jason Aldean’s Old Boots, New Dirt crossed the million mark. Montevallo has spawned three No. 1 singles on the Hot Country Songs chart: “Leave the Night On,” “House Party” and “Take Your Time.” It additionally notched a No. 2 hit with “Break Up in a Small Town.” All four singles also reached the top 40 of the all-genre Billboard Hot 100 chart. Montevallo was released Oct. 28, 2014, peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard 200, and has been among the top 50 albums on the weekly chart in every one of its 66 chart weeks. On the latest chart, dated Feb. 13, it climbs 24-21. Hunt closed out 2015 atop many of Billboard’s year-end charts, thanks to the success of his Montevallo effort and its songs. The album was No. 1 on the year-end Top Country Albums chart, while “Take Your Time” was the biggest Hot Country Songs title of the year. In more recent news, Hunt is nominated for two 2015 Grammy Awards -- best country album (Montevallo) and best new artist. The Grammy Awards will be presented on Feb. 15, and Hunt will be on hand at the CBS-broadcast show, performing in collaboration with Carrie Underwood.
