I doubt that this will be the "last song" that Lauren's label issues on her behalf. I think the fact that she is currently in Europe as the main opener for Carrie's tour, bodes well for her. That said, I wouldn't mind if her label quits putting their $ & muscle behind this particular song & moves onto another one. I was hoping that the music video might give this song a boost, but I feel it was a missed opportunity. Instead of fun & flirty which I think is the song's strength, the video portrayed Lauren as almost lusting after or wanting carnal knowledge of her "next boyfriend". Lol, perhaps a bit of an exaggeration but to me a disappointment none the less. I agree with you about The Road Less Traveled and the fact that Meghan Trainor is one of the co-writers could help with both sales & radio.

I agree with you about The Road Less Traveled and the fact that Meghan Trainor is one of the co-writers could help with both sales & radio.Wow, I didn't know she co-wrote that. Meghan could really help, look at the song she wrote for Rascal Flatts ("I Like The Sound Of That"), their song is now in the Top 10 for AirPlay. Meghan name and support could go a long way given the interest in her upcoming album, and the fact that she just won the Grammy for Best New Artist. I really do hope that they soon give up on this, because it's just not going anywhere, and with new Luke Bryan, Blake Shelton, Kenny Chesney will have a new song out soon enough along with Miranda Lambert as well. I don't see the point in keeping this song going. Also, that's kind of cool that Lauren Alaina and Carrie Underwood are touring right now as I think of Lauren Alaina as the younger version of Carrie Underwood in a way. Or am I the only one who sees that. Edit; If there is one thing that I find especially interesting is, "Next Boyfriend" as posted by jhomes87 in the Upcoming Single and Weekly Add thread has acquired a total of 11 stations in the past two weeks. You know usually for songs that struggle in the 30s and 40s usually don't get many ads the last few weeks they are on the chart. But "Next Boyfriend" is quite the opposite of that. Lauren keeps on getting stations (she's at 92 now) but doesn't see any progress.

Meghan Trainor co-writing "I Like the Sound of That" has exactly nothing to do with how that one is doing at country radio and it will have no effect on how "Road Less Traveled" would do, either. If having a star co-write one of your songs meant anything, then "Eighteen Inches" would've been a big hit because of Carrie Underwood's writing credits, so that pretty much deflates all the air out of that theory.

I do see "Road Less Traveled" being possibly more successful because it has like this anthem like quality to it that radio DJs might really love as country music as a whole, it doesn't feel like there's many of those true anthem like songs on the radio. Also very radio friendly upbeat, that to me has the makings of a hit than this which "Next Boyfriend" never really went anywhere. Honestly the label should just give up on "Next Boyfriend". It's still eligible for recurrent status on Billboard and the gains this week have shown, that radio is just about done with this song. Honestly who can blame them as this songs chart run has really been stretched out way too long and the label has been honestly wasting money on this song (IMO). Also .indulgecountry, I didn't know that "Eighteen Inches" was co-written by Carrie Underwood (heck I didn't know until recently that Lauren had that song released as a single or "Barefoot and Buckwild" were released, the latter of which I didn't find out until late last year at all). So I didn't know about that so that's why I made that assumption.

I agree---time to pull the plug on this. Those 11 stations won't inject any life into this tune at this stage.

Billboard sent this recurrent this week after 22 weeks charting. To be fair "Next Boyfriend" did lose its bullet last week, so Lauren's only chance was regaining her bullet back. Lauren probably didn't even come close to doing that. I am definitely curious to see what the future holds for Lauren Alaina, she has had yet another song go basically nowhere and this is her 5th attempt with only one of her songs even making a dent on the charts (Georgia Peaches). If I was the label I would release one more song off the EP, and if that fails part ways with Lauren soon afterwards :'( .

Is it possible for a song to go recurrent on Billboard but continue to climb the chart on Mediabase? I know that NB has been treading water on Mediabase but this will be its first unbulleted week on the published chart. As unlikely as that scenario may sound, is it unprecedented? Did it get any adds today?

"Cold Beer Conversation" spent two months on Mediabase after being sent recurrent by Billboard. If it starts climbing MB, Billboard will be forced to re-enter it.

The last three days of updates has "Next Boyfriend" up 48 spins and nearly 200k in audience. Lauren might have a chance of re-entry on Billboard. She might, right now I'd put it at 40% so I will leave Lauren off my list tonight but I won't be surprised of she can manage a re-entry. Where exactly "Next Boyfriend" re-enters at remains to be determined as their are a total of 3 recurrent songs on BB ahead of Lauren (Randy, Tyler, Dylan Scott and David Nail is on the bubble) so where Lauren ends up if she re-enters on BB remains to be determined, if I had to say I think Lauren would end up in the 44-46 range (still nowhere close to the Top 40 but it's not over yet).

Well, if this isn't going nowhere I hope they release Doing Fine next. I hope she can get her album out, I love her voice and I think she really matured as a songwriter so hopefully radio will give her a fair chance.

There was an ad in Aircheck today that NB was "converted" in Chicago, Denver, Salt Lake City & Kansasa City which seems to indicate that Mercury is still fighting for this song. Not sure, but I think "converted" may mean highest rotation spins in those cities which may explain the double digit gains for the last 3 days. Even so, I'm still guessing this song at best will peak mid 30s.

None of those cities have "Next Boyfriend" in heavy rotation.

Now I'm starting to think there's a really high chance of "Next Boyfriend" re-entering. Lauren Alaina today set a new peak for her MB audience and her spins so "Next Boyfriend" is still on the upswing. The next few days will be the ultimate deciding factor on whether or not Lauren will re-enter on BB. If Lauren Alaina can gain a little bit more the next couple of days I think she will return. I'm still stubbornly hoping for a Top 40 finish, I'm not sure if that's possible on MB or BB but I'd love it if it was. sabre14 you're the Mediabase expert, are things looking good so far for Lauren this week, I can't get a good read on whether or not "Next Boyfriend" has a good shot of a re-entry.

As long as "Next Boyfriend" continues to post small gains or break even the next three days, it should return to Billboard's chart on Monday.

As much as I love this song, the label really needs to let this go. I don't think Lauren will be climbing up anymore and it feels like this song has been out forever. Like I love this song but it's overdue to leave and it really should leave soon.

This one is officially done. Lauren lost 40 spins and 150k in audience today (75 spins and nearly 300k in audience lost over the past three days). It already went recurrent on Billboard and this Sunday will be its last week on Mediabase.
It has spent over 10 weeks in the Mediabase top 50 without cracking the top 40.

I'm really curious to see the future for Lauren Alaina. She still hasn't managed to score a hit and this is her fifth try at it. I would either, if I was the label A) release "Road Less Traveled" as I find it to be the most radio friendly song left on the EP or B) drop Lauren as she still hasn't managed a hit yet and I have serious doubts she will score a hit.

I believe it was more a mutual parting ways. Nothing more nothing less. Now Lauren Alaina despite her talent I do think it's quite clear that she's not meant to be a breakout star I mean this song as much as I love it sounded like something sonically similar to Kelsea Ballerini, and even that didn't work. I do think she might get one last chance but that's a major if.

He had one song that was a top 10. Two actually "See You Tonight" and "Feeling It" were Top 10. But Scotty never really had a real radio prescence, yes his songs hit Top 10 but neither has that high of recurrent play. He's a recognizable name but I don't think radio was ever going to fully bite on.
