The Highway on Sirius/XM has started spinning "80's Mercedes" in their regular rotation. :) I apologize for not focusing on My Church but when she says "I'm a 90s baby, in my 80s Mercedes" might be one of the catchiest hooks I've ever heard. Wow. The harmonies and chord changes are killer in that part of the song too which certainly adds to the catchiness. The "Woahs" in the intro/after the choruses are very catchy as well. I would be shocked if 80s Mercedes wasn't the follow up to My Church. Ah em...it will be the follow-up. ;) "80's Mercedes" was given serious consideration as Maren's debut single.

I think doing My Church first was the way to go/correct decision since I could see 80s Mercedes being even bigger than My Church. Also the timing of the release will be perfect heading into the summer months. Perfect song to listen and jam to with the windows down.

Maren Morris has a huge career ahead of her if you are asking me. I do wonder why, and hate, that XM The Highway is playing "80s Mercedes" in regular rotation. Why does the DJ on XM The Highway say "I have no explaination why other stations around the nation are not playing "80s Mercedes" by now". He should know (and he does) that it is because "My Church" was sent to radio by Maren and her Label, and they are hoping to achieve a Top 10, Top 5 or #1 single. This is how it works. I just hate how XM The Highway in my opinion thinks they are so clever or "ahead of the game/curve" when really they are hurting "My Church" if you ask me. They either have inside knowledge or take a educated guess on most artists and always start playing what they feel will be the next single and its annoying.

It's because they do have inside knowledge. They're often told by labels what the next singles will be and since they've been spinning "My Church" in heavy rotation since Thanksgiving, they wanted to move on to what would be Maren's next single, because it helps their station and their audience. That lingo about "I have no idea why other stations haven't played this yet" (in reference to "80's Mercedes") is just deejay speak -- they always say stuff like that. It's interesting radio jargon that they convince themselves it's what their listeners like to hear.

So this is climbing and doing well, which means that "80's Mercedes" might not take that long to be announced? Like around June maybe? So do you guys think they will announce the album around the same time or wait until single #2 hits its peak? I'm assuming My Church is the #1 hit we all want it to be...

From comments Maren has made, it sounds like the album is mostly done, so I'd bet it comes out when this peaks. She'll be hitting the road on Keith Urban's tour at the start of June, and I'm sure her team would love nothing more than to have this album out there for the tour so that people who see her will be able to buy a full album.

This song shot up the charts to #1 on Sirius in barely a month, which means people that voted (there is a survey I get from time to time) really pushed for it. It is going back down though (It is still top 10 on their weekend countdown).

OTV boost aside, it's pretty awesome to see that things are lining up for us to be able to say that two female artists started their career with #1 debut singles at country radio over the past year! And this all comes after about a decade after Carrie Underwood was the last to do it. It's very nice to see this kind of progress being made. I really would like to see this trend continue to build and become bigger.

Kelsea, Cam, and eventually Maren. (Even though some don't consider "Burning House" to be a #1 because of the non-published mediabase chart, her label still considers it to be #1)

Also, "Burning House" wasn't Cam's debut. "My MIstake" was.

The success of Cam's single is equally lovely to see though, and I hope that all three of them can continue to score hits on country radio and that some of the other newer ladies out there can start to do the same (and that some of the semi-established ones like Jana and Kacey can start to get more as well). I'm just quite excited that the tides have begun to turn a bit over the past year.

I love seeing that in artists.

I really liked Company You Keep. Curious as to why that didn't make the cut.

Why would you include Second Wind instead of Checkered Past or Caged Bird? Even Your Whiskey would be better because it's a good country song. Maren played Once live recently: www.youtube.com/watch?v=1V4zWZbRysw

Maren played Once live recently: www.youtube.com/watch?v=1V4zWZbRyswSecond Wind has been a fan-favorite off of Kelly Clarkson's album and Maren's version she's played live is incredible, so I am thrilled Second Wind is on the album. I think especially since she and her team have specifically not put a label on the type of music she writes and performs, I'm not surprised a poppier song like Second Wind is on her album. Granted, I haven't heard the other 3 songs you mentioned from Maren - but I gotta defend "Second Wind" ;) I wouldn't be surprised if she gets promoted on other formats than just country, so having some more pop friendly songs for CHR and HAC may be why it ended up on the album over "countrier" songs, because Maren is not solely a country artist.

I guess I can deal with Maren going to other formats, but I'm more stoked at the possibility of "80s Mercedes" becoming a single (along with her album coming out soon).
On that note, could this song be near the end of it's run? I've noticed that it's been sitting in the cusp of the top 10 on MB the last several days. I'm probably speaking too soon in that regards.

Nope, definitely nowhere near done. This one is Top 2 bound (I'm pretty sure it'll get #1, but it should at least make it as high as #2). It just cracked the Top 10 on BB after being out for only two months and it has been and continues to be one of the best selling songs out right now -- currently just outside the Top 20 on iTunes all-genre, which is fantastic.

Good. Sometimes I (and several other chart-watchers here) forget about that conversion phase where virtually every song headed for the top 3 settles around the top 10 for a couple of weeks before taking off again. I knew I was speaking too soon.

Do you guys know if there are advanced copies being sent to industry people already? Cause I've read a few lines about some album cuts and I was wondering if Sony sent out some copies or if they are getting the info from inside (label people maybe?)?

Oftentimes, they'll give a sampling or invite select "tastemakers" a chance to hear it.

Is there a second single? Not yet. When she does, it's almost guaranteed to be "80's Mercedes."
