300k would be very decent, but is it enough against Adele? Interesting to watch

I don't get how free "sales" of a Rihanna album from Samsung would count for the chart, unless the $3.49 minimum rules changed.

They could go the route of Jay Z's last album.
1 million sold to Samsung. The RIAA certifed it Platinum.
Then it went to retailers. Sold over 1 million. Now certified 2xP with the RIAA.

JAY-Z and Samsung tried to pull the same stunt with Magna Carta Holy Grail. He approached Billboard after Samsung bought 1 million copies of the album for $5 a pop and tried to make it seem like a retail sale so that it could count towards the charts. Billboard rebuttal was that since it was not the consumers themselves purchasing the album that they would not count it. I guess Samsung and Roc Nation haven't learned their lesson the first time.

That article said that the "bible" would count the "sales" if the coupon could be applied to any album. That's what confused me a little, in terms of what the rule is for new releases an the 3.49 requirement.

That's what confused me a little, in terms of what the rule is for new releases an the 3.49 requirement. Because the album wouldn't technically be less than that. It would be $9.99 but you would use a code to redeem it. Billboard would count it as long as it is a code for any album, not just Rihanna

What I think Billboard is trying to do is make the code available for more than just Rihanna's album so it's fair game. Making it only available to one album will still be a monopoly on the charts.

hitsdailydouble.com/news&id=298449Tuesday, November 10, 2015 ADELE'S PREORDER BONANZAWhat Record Will Her Record Break Next? With a little more than one week until street, Adele’s 25 (XL/Columbia) continues to rack up huge preorder numbers. Across all retailers, 25 is approaching 500k in orders. Of course, the bulk of this—over 80%—is digital, since most physical retailers don’t offer a preorder option. (But those that do are seeing serious action: At Amazon, 25 is nearing the record 88k set by Susan Boyle’s debut SYCO/Columbia release.) Only two weeks ago, Adele became the first artist to sell over 1m downloads of a single track with “Hello.” Will she become the first artist to sell 1m digital albums in a single week? With current forecasts at 2-2.5m for the album overall, it’s very likely she will.

Amazing times...2.5M in one week! Probably 1.1M second week...it's almost certain she'll do 5M by the end of the year. Can she go diamond? We'll see.

Because she's also #2 on their mp3 store with pre-orders, which, while not nearly as big as iTunes, could still be a pretty decent chunk of sales. Also, vinyl is streeting the same day as the CD and digital, interested in seeing how many of those she can move.

The vinyl is out the same day? I'll likely get that then too. So maybe two copies from me (unless the vinyl comes with a CD).

On Amazon it comes with the album digitally. There may be other bundles at different outlets though.

Oh, Rihanna! Give it up, gurl! Wait until June 2016. hitsdailydouble.com/news&id=298532Friday, November 13, 2015 RIHANNA'S ROLLOUT: IS IT SOUP YET?Sources say the long-awaited Rihanna album, ANTI (Roc Nation), will make its debut on Jay Z’s Tidal service on 11/27 and go wide at e-tail and retail the following week (12/4). The latter date will mean her full-scale sales bow coincides with that of Coldplay—and comes two weeks after Adele. Could Rihanna’s first sales week be a battle for #2 with Chris Martin and company? Will her exclusive week at Tidal—which she supported in its star-studded, highly criticized rollout—prompt negative repercussions from other online services? And what role will that $25m Samsung deal play, if any, in the RiRi rollout? Rihanna, whose past successes have been driven by big hit singles, has come up short in that department with her latest batch, “Bitch Better Have My Money,” “American Oxygen” and “FourFiveSeconds.” The long wait for ANTI amplified speculation about the record, which spilled over when her father told U.K. tabloid The Sun that the superstar wasn’t “comfortable” with it. Meanwhile, her unusual status as a major act with one company as both management and label has added to the level of uncertainty surrounding the plan. Still, RiRi’s undeniable star power, cultural relevance and impact as a touring force all suggest she may well exceed expectations.

Now Drake! www.billboard.com/articles/columns/the-juice/6762287/drake-views-from-the-6-release-dateDrake's 'Views From The 6': Tweet Hints at Release DateBy Adelle Platon | November 13, 2015 9:55 AM EST Drake’s highly anticipated album Views From The 6 could be ringing in the new year. According to a mysterious teaser posted on the Daily Rap’s Twitter account, Views might be hitting the Internet on Jan. 6, 2016. The project would follow a banner year for the Toronto rep, whose surprise joint album with Future, What A Time To Be Alive, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 upon its Sept. 20 release. He told the Fader that month that Views marks a salute to his city and that he was logging studio time with longtime collaborator, Noah “40” Shebib. "We’ve grown a lot over the years,” he said of 40 in the interview. "He used to be the guy that would track me in hotel rooms at 4 a.m. And now he is not that guy — I have another guy that does that ... If I want to make the album I want to make, I have to go find him. I have to go sit with him, and we have to really put in effort." The rapper -- real name Aubrey Graham -- also dropped If You’re Reading This, It’s Too Late in February, another out-of-nowhere release that became the first million-selling album of 2015.

Are the 2-2.5M guesses for Adele based on pure sales, or with TEA too?
I would not be surprised if her pure album sales don't break the NSync record, but when TEA is included, she surges past. Which would make that a very asterisk-heavy record.

This is the first Rhianna project I'm not all that excited for. I liked "Bitch Better Have My Money" but, the other 2 singles for me were pretty Blah. Rihanna is a talented woman but her trying to be experimental is just not what I want from her. LoL

Wow. Justin Bieber, One Direction, Adele, Rihanna, Coldplay and Drake all in the span of 2 months. That's an impressive holiday season lineup.
Why Rihanna thinks, after the mess that has been her 2015, that releasing her new album exclusively on Tidal, even if just for a week, is a good idea...idk.

br- pure album sales would be the only comparison against past albums sales. Using other numbers would be an apples-to-oranges comparison.

^You're right.
It'd be neat if Adele broke the record. That one would be hard for me to see ever being broken after that.
