"Shut Up And Fish" cracks the MB top 40 this week, at #40. How is the pace versus Fly? Pretty similar?

"Shut Up And Fish" is a couple spaces higher on the chart than "Fly" was at the 16 day mark in the MB top 50, although "Fly" had about 600k more in total audience, while "Shut Up And Fish" has over 100 more spins.

"Shut Up And Fish" cracks the MB top 40 this week, at #40. It does the same on Billboard, up 47-40* in week 3.

Wow, this is really off to a stellar start. Can't say I'm surprised though, because I'm expecting this to be a very big hit for them.

The sales are concerning me with this one. I know it's early, but it's getting outsold by pretty much every song around it.

That's something I've been keeping my eye on as well, really since it went for adds. Luckily it just broke through the top 1500 barrier two days ago, so I'm sure we'll see it pick up. It's not appearing to be a huge seller, at the moment. "Shut Up And Fish" continues to do well at radio though as it increased 230 spins and 1.2 million in audience this week and moves from #40 to #36 on MB this week.

I swear these girls are THE best at music videos. Hilarious, well-shot and well-acted. I am seeing another video award in their future.
The guy in the music video is Tae's brother Mason, who stars in Finding Carter on MTV.

My only complaint is he is not wearing salmon shorts in the video!

After seeing the video, the song has won me over. Cute, but not overly so.

LOVED the vΓdeo! lol Just made me like the song even more (if that was even possible!)
Got the chance to see them perform when I visited Nashville last month and they were SO tiny and cute! I almost put them in my pocket and brought them home to Brazil with me! (I wish!)

After the debut of the music video, "Shut Up And Fish" jumps up nearly 600 spots on the iTunes all-genre chart (#540). Maddie & Tae's song also gained another 450k in audience today, as Westwood One (W1MC) officially started spinning the song this past week.

#318 all genre now.
#54 on the country chart, and that's with 8 country songs from The Voice ahead of it.

I love this song and video. But oh my gosh the youtube like to dislike ratio is rather astounding. The comments aren't exactly pretty too. I'm nervous on how this'll do on callback scores now.

That video is so good. Absolutely love it. Thought it was cool that Tae's brother played the lead male role in it, too. ETA: As for the high number of dislikes/bad comments on the YT video, I'm thinking that because BB premiered the music video that it attracted a crowd of non-country music fans to it that decided to troll the video because the bulk of the comments have that vibe rather than the actual intended audience for this song/video aren't biting. In other words, the people disliking it appear to be people who wouldn't have been expected to it like it anyway since they aren't actually country fans.

raylatch98: Well, the video just premiered, so I think we should give it about a week or two before saying such a thing about callout scores. Quite frankly, I don't think it'll matter that much in the end. By the by, whoever "disliked" this song on YouTube may also be huge fans of pretty darn crummy viral videos/songs like "Hotline Bling", "Cheerleader", "Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae)", etc. (first burned on me after a small handful of listens, which ain't good; never liked the second; third was okay for a while but didn't last long). I still think this'll become a fairly respectable hit at least, if everything goes right. It'll take a while to get there, though. I see this entering the top 20 sometime in April with a peak some time during the summer months (one can hope, right?) ETA: Oops, .indulgecountry said it better than I ever will. And those two are so frickin' cute!!! It's too bad that I wasn't in their league to begin with. #gottahitthegym #again ETA (2): I didn't expect the video to follow the lyrical flow in the song that much. Is that a good thing, or should I recuse myself?

I love this song and video. But oh my gosh the youtube like to dislike ratio is rather astounding. The comments aren't exactly pretty too. I'm nervous on how this'll do on callback scores now. It's already showing some high negatives/high fatigue scores on the Bullseye charts, but I don't think it's reason for concern (yet). Some numbers, though: Bullseye Callout: #38 overall (out of 40), Dislike is 30.5 and Fatigue is 31.5 (only Jana Kramer has a higher fatigue score) Callout America: #30 overall (out of 35), Dislike is 29.8 and Fatigue is 30.8 (only Jana Kramer and A Thousand Horses have higher fatigue scores). Also, Maddie & Tae have one of the lowest "like a lot" scores. RadioFeedback: #29 overall (out of 40), Dislike is 10.6, Strong Dislike is 11.6, and Fatigue is 14...which is actually pretty good. Most songs on the RadioFeedback survey are in the 15-20 range when it comes to fatigue. Only 4 songs have a fatigue rating of less than 10, and they're all new/lower-charting songs: Toby Keith's "Beautiful Stranger", Dylan Scott's "Crazy Over Me", Mo Pitney's "Boy & A Girl Thing", and Chris Stapleton's "Nobody To Blame". Ironically (or at least, it's ironic in my opinion), this song is testing much better with males than it is with females, at least on the RadioFeedback survey anyway (I only checked on RadioFeedback because "Shut Up And Fish" is at least doing moderately well there, as opposed to Bullseye Callout and Callout America, where its scores aren't very good at all). On RadioFeedback, "Shut Up And Fish" is #9 overall in the combined male demo, ages 18-54. Admittedly the sample sizes are pretty small when you start to break it down by sex (male or female) and/or age (18-24, 35-44, etc), so it's hard to draw any conclusions. And like I've said before, I think stations are more likely to pay attention to local research as opposed to national callout charts. Sales and streams are an increasingly important factor as well. For most songs it won't matter too much how they're testing on these national callout surveys, unless of course the dislike and/or fatigue numbers are off the charts.

Yes. You can pretty much tell most of the negative comments are from people who are not fans of country music.

I'm all for factoring in everything in terms of gauging what's popular and what's not but unless it's a overwhelming majority, I literally have zero respect for YouTube comments -- I never waste my time reading them because the comments section of that site has garnered the reputation of people saying outrageous things simply because they can.
"Shut Up And Fish" will do fine at radio and if for some reason it doesn't, it sure as hell won't be because of YouTube comments.

I would go as far as to say this applies to the vast majority of internet comment sections for big sites or news outlets, not just YouTube... it's crazy!

I would go as far as to say this applies to the vast majority of internet comment sections for big sites or news outlets, not just YouTube... it's crazy! This is true. If comment sections were indicative of anything, Sam Hunt and FGL would not still be getting #1 hits because the two of them are hammered with negativity online every time a country music outlet seems to mention either. The one thing about this particular instance w/ this song though is that it seems the "hate" is coming from outside the genre, rather than from disgruntled actual country fans.
