Looks like Interscope is going to promote "Army" as the third US single from Ellie Goulding's latest album Delirium. The track has been added to PlayIGA's Top 40 playlist and it has reached the Top 20 in the UK.

I don't think this is going to do any better than 'Something In The Way'. If they'd committed to it back in January when it was first showing signs of life, then maybe it could have performed better (we'll never know) but certainly not now.

This Michael Scott reaction is more appropriate:

The last single wasn't even fucking promoted. Like at all. It's fucking summer and you're not sending Don't Need Nobody? A joke

I'm not a huge fan of this anyway, but yeah the confusion from the first time is definitely going to play against it. Unless a lot of PDs purposely held off on SITWYM because they wanted this (no chance I'd say)

I enjoy this song, but it really seems like a lazy single roll out since they already had the video filmed. Makes me feel as if this era will end rather shortly ????.

Sorry for cussing but - good fucking bye.
This will not do any more than SITWYM and I find it ridiculous they're not going with better, obvious choices like Don't Need Nobody, Codes, and Lost and Found. Absolutely ridiculous.

Aw, it feels too soon after SITWYM, as that's starting to pick up airplay in my city. Finally.

This is the right time to pick a single but I am skeptical about Army as the one. There are uptempos that are breezy and better appropriate for the time that could do better than Army. This is just an attempt at trying to recreate Love Me Like You Do. Ellie is and deserves better than that.

I also think there are better choices than "Army" to be released next. I hope Interscope is just testing this and it will be changed for another track like it was previously done back in December with this one and "Something In the Way You Move". Wasnt there a thread for this already in Non Radio Singles? There was one, but it's already in the World Hits forum. I didn't request to move that thread here because it has information about international markets (mostly UK), which is better to keep it there.

Oh god no, they gave up on Something In The Way You Move didn't they? This is a bad single choice, Don't Need Nobody would be the best 3rd single for US If not, there was so many better tracks to pick from, MANY that album had a lot of tracks. Like Codes, Paradise, Keep On Dancin, etc.

Two singles in a row that I loved and now she's back to releasing songs I don't like.

This was supposed to be her breakout era, too.

Ugh, so much for capitalizing on the goodwill and momentum that LMLYD created. This era is a huge mess, imo.

I doubt this will even chart on the hot 100. And it saddens me to say that because she's one of my favorites.

I'm so frustrated that what was such a promising era has basically been hosed by simple neglect. I had really high hopes that she was going to go all out for this one because she herself drew attention to the fact that she went for the big Max Martin hooks this time rather than doing her quirkier, left-of-center thing. Even now, I still remain convinced that the album is full of would-be smashes (including all three currently selected singles)...but I don't get the point of doing that if you're not also going to put full effort into promoting them - or for that matter, promoting yourself as a personality - as one would expect from someone attempting to be a big pop artist. Maybe Ellie is content hanging out in her B- lane, but from the sidelines it's hard to wrap my head around her intent here. I think we've gotten all of three US TV performances from her since the start of the era launched six months ago, and they were all for OMM.
It's hard for me to even be invested in the conversation over whether or not Army is a good choice b/c it doesn't seem like she or her label are going to do shit with it, regardless. She already took the lazy way out and used tour footage for the video so we can't expect much more from her there.

:/ I'm livid. There are like five plus better single choices on the album.

This song is not bad, but considering the more interesting options they have I don't understand why this would be released. I personally love Devotion, but even Codes, Don't Need Nobody, We Can't Move to This, Aftertaste, or Keep On Dancing would have been more exciting. Army just feels like it wants to pretend LMLYD never existed.
I think the issue with this era is that it seems painfully obvious they're trying to have huge success by playing it safe. It's rehashing her old hits instead of letting new potential ones break any ground. They have the material, they're just not standing behind it.

I'm getting a very strong whiff of label drama from this era. I don't know if its internal disagreements or if it's between her and them, but the plug was pulled after On My Mind peaked. First they couldn't decide between this and SITWYM, so both were getting spun, and then the money/promo stopped dead.

Love Ellie but I think this era is done. Army is an OK choice but it won't smash after an underperformer.

I feel like "Something in the Way You Move" was just released. Why even bother releasing another single at all if they aren't willing to try and push "Something in the Way"?

Uh...well considering that "Something..." is now hemorrhaging spins, it's certainly not a good idea to just sit back and do nothing in the meantime, eh?

Since she's not going to put any effort into promoting this one either, she should just finish the tour and start working on a new album. An album, of course, that she will love enough to promote. *Beep* this single choice.

I believe she said 2 years, but can't remember off the top of my head.
