Every single from Dr. Dre’s 2001. Did the Smoke Weed Everyday song seriously only peak in the 20s? Same with Forgot About Dre despite the Eminem feature. And Still D.R.E barely charted at all? Come on, Billboard. These songs feel like they’ve always been around.

Mercy by Duffy felt like a #1 hit here in the US. I seriously couldn't escape my house without hearing it at least once from 2008 - 2009.
It peaked at #27. And didn't make the year end list.
Wake Up Call by Maroon 5 felt like at least a top 5 hit. It peaked at #19 and got caught between years.
Sometimes, life isn't fair.

So I just found out that Mr. Brightside only peaked at 10. WTF. It seemed like it was a top 3 hit, but only 10???

I'm a bit shocked that Hotline Bling only peaked at #2, it was stuck behind both The Hills and Hello, it felt a lot bigger than those two songs at the time. But it's funny in hindsight, 3 years down the line and Hotline Bling really outlasted it's competition, do you really see people talking about The Hills and Hello? Not really, but Hotline Bling is still referenced, especially the video which is iconic.

My Neck My Back only peaked at #42 - felt like a year-end #1 for sure.

Obviously Hello is a huge song and is still referenced, but Hotline Bling always seemed bigger to me.

Same Love by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis. Only peaked at #11 but felt like at least a top 5 based off impact and recognition. Iirc it was one of the most unlucky #11 peaking songs in some time, spending something like 4-5 weeks at that position because the top 10 was crowded.

I Knew You Were Trouble sounded like a number one and if anything felt like it spent longer than just one week at number two, that song really should have peaked at #1

Gangnam Style at number 2. Will probably go down as one of the most iconic songs of all time. Just felt so much bigger than any other song of its year.

These were probably mentioned, but my choices are:
"Talking Body" "How Deep Is Your Love" "Chandelier"

Okay so I know this is intended for hot 100 peaks but imo the peaks of most songs from Florence and the Machine’s first couple albums on alternative are great examples of this.
Dog Days are Over and Shake It Out both felt like #1s, or at least top 3s. However, they peaked at 8 and 11, respectively.
You’ve Got the Love felt like a top 10, but it only got to 33 and chatted for a few weeks.
Even What the Water Gave Me, which was her intended lead single from Ceremonials before getting pulled after a few weeks because of a mediocre start on radio felt like at least a top 20 to me, at least during the month or two I heard it a lot. But nope, that one only peaked at 29 and also only charted for a few weeks.
Maybe my local station just loved FATM tho.

See You Again by Tyler the Creator I believe only spent a week on the hot 100 in the 80s, but it has 125k Spotify plays and almost everyone my age (late teens ftr) who is into music recognizes it.
Same goes for most of Billie Eilish’s big songs (Ocean Eyes, YCSMIAC, IDWTBYA, Lovely, When the Party’s Over — although the last two did chart decently).

I was shocked yesterday when I discovered that Red Hot Chili Peppers' "Californication" only reached #69 on the Hot 100.
The video alone felt like a big deal.

No Doubt: Don't Speak :kii:
Seriously though, lots of rap hits in the late 90s/early 00s fit here, for example Party Up (Up in Here), Shake Ya Ass, No Matter What They Say, Missy Elliott's video hits... Jay-Z got his first top ten hit as a lead artist in 2001 with Izzo (HOVA) etc.

The Scientist by Coldplay which didn't chart I'm still shocked with this information. I mean, I would EASILY say The Scientist if you ask me what are the five most famous Coldplay songs. (Along with Clocks, Viva La Vida, Fix You and Paradise) And since I was speaking about Coldplay I also say "Fix You" and "Paradise" felt way bigger than its actual peaks.

Clocks at #29 also... one of the most underrated artists ever

I mean, 2 million copies in two weeks tho.

Obviously, but I think culturally Hotline Bling made a bigger impact than Hello. yeah, this is pretty much still popular, but the song itself is not even close to Hello. But I agree with you, this deserved #1, it's his signature song imo.

Midnight City. For sure. Everyone knows that song, it's one of the most iconic songs of the 2010s and it only peaked at #72

Apparently, Gold On The Ceiling by The Black Keys only peaked at #94. What? I’ve been hearing that song on the radio for years, even up to 2019.

I think almost of Calvin Harris songs can be quoted. His songs are so much bigger in Europe than in the US, it's crazy !
Very surprising that "Last Christmas" by Wham! (very big Christmas classic) peaked only #25 (reached this year !).
Also some songs that felt #1 (or #2) imo : Bad Romance (#2) Better Know (#3) Don't Cha (#2) Don't Let Me Down (#3) Happier (#3) Hotline Bling (#2) Lean On (#4) Lucid Dreams (#2) On the Floor (#3) Problem (#2) Something Just Like This (#3) Stay with Me (#2) Stressed Out (#2) Thinking Out Loud (#2) Thriller (#4) Wake Me Up (#4) Work from Home (#4)
