Looks like SUBWAY is no longer an AT40 sponsor. Or at the very least the Fresh Buzz Song of the Week is no more from what I'm told. However, if the Fresh Buzz was in place this week, it would've gone to "Handclap" since it's their lone Breakout this week.

Was there a reason there was even a "Subway Fresh Buzz Song Of The Week" segment on AT40? Why not just keep the occasional "AT40 Breakout" for songs that are about to make the countdown like they currently do?

No reason other than sponsorship as far as I've ever been able to tell. This change would only affect the U.S. version of the show as that's the only version where the Subway branding was ever used. The international version has always just called it a Breakout. So, it's still business as usual, there.

So, are they going to use the "AT40 Breakout" in place of the Subway Song now?

AT40 has always had and needed sponsors, but until the last few years this kind of direct corporate branding was never actually heard as part of the show.

So maybe we now don't have to listen to Ryan pitching Subway's latest creation every 15 minutes? (Speaking of which, what kind of idiot offers a "Reuben" sandwich without rye bread/rolls, as a local Subway recently did?)

Whoever posted in last week's AT40 thread was correct when they said that this week would be a slow chart week.

Fun facts: Britney Spears is the longest charting act, since 1998; "Do You Mind" sets the record for crediting the most acts on one hit (7) beating the old record set just last October when "Sucker For Pain" credited 6 acts; in the first optional segment, the listener Hank mentioned that he used to listen to Casey Kasem and Ryan said he grew up listening to Casey as well; Rihanna is the only act to have a Top 10 hit every since 2005; Sean Paul just turned 45.

Not terribly surprising. A slow week is, always, fairly typical for the second or third week of January after the post-holiday "catching up" barrage.

I recorded the show from iheart.com. So frustrating! They went back to #40 shortly after starting
the top 20. Then it played thru correctly. They actually played all but the last of the optional extras
this week.
