#15 is probably the song that no one has expected. It breaks the tie with #16 by having one more #2 ranks. Most people either rank it in Top 10 or Bottom 10, and thus it is the song with 2nd largest SD.

15. Drink In My Hand
No need to complicate it, I'm a simple man All you got to do is put a drink in my hand
Total: 361 Average: 15.04166667 SD: 9.252398827 (2nd largest SD!)
Album: Chief Songwriters: Eric Church, Michael P. Heeney, Luke Laird Hot 100 peak: 40 Hot Country Songs peak: 1
Drink In My Hand is the second single from his third album Chief. As a working man, he drank his problem away in this song. I don't have the issue of hearing this song too many times before (Won't happen in HK ), but I always think it is a bit rushed in delivery. Even though some of the lyrics are quite funny e.g. It goes bang bang bang while it ring ring rings, the plot is just too dumb to me. Also, the H aaaouuhhh Yeaaa is extremely whiny to me although it is a reference to that hair of a dog is howling. It doesn't help that I hate the music video for this as well. One of his worst and misleading hit if you ask me. But it managed to stay in mid-10s while the rankdown is receiving submissions.

Aargh that was my other guess....
I personally really love this song because I think it's a fun, well-made uptempo rocker from Eric. It lacks substance compared to a lot of his output and I generally prefer his other material than his rockier side, but this one just hit the right spot for me.

I love the following song and three people (including me) ranked it at Top 5. Nine Top 10 will be lost here. Some lower ranks pull it back from Top 10 though. However, it is a song with a lower SD.

14. Creepin'
Just last night I saw the light At the end of that tunnel on the other side Thought I found my way outta this pain Only to find your memory train
Total: 355 Average: 14.79166667 SD: 6.633113025
Album: Chief Songwriters: Eric Church, Marv Green Hot 100 peak: 56 Hot Country songs peak: 10 Country Airplay peak: 5 (from that time those two charts are different)
Creepin' is the fourth single from Eric's Chief, his third album overall. The title means the memory of a former lover is creepin' on him. This might be one of his most underrated singles. Really it is the same level of quality as Springsteen, but it may not be that instantaneous as that. Just note how the structure of first verse and second verse match with each other, especially what he "feels" and "hears". Also, Thought I found my way outta this pain/Only to find your memory train is another good use of "memory" as a more negative matter as opposed to Springsteen's brighter imagery. The arrangement is also straight to the point country rock. I saw a poster praising the gimmick of Break it down, down, down, down and the melody's going downwards. I actually like the way the song built up afterwards more, with one instrument introduced at a time, it gives the song much more layers. Not to mention the vocal effect on first verse to make hazy feeling...

Up next was a #1 contender but eventually had to settle at #13. Nine Top 10 ranks will be lost but two #29 will be eliminated as well!

13. His Kind of Money (My Kind of Love)
Cause I ain't got his kind of money And I probably never will But I got a buck that says His twenties and his hundred-dollar bills Ain't gonna satisfy you forever
Total: 348 Average: 14.5 SD: 8.475027254
Album: Carolina/Caldwell County EP Songwriters: Eric Church, Casey Beathard, Shane Minor Hot Country Songs peak: 46
His Kind of Money (My Kind of Love) has a loose identity in Eric's discography. It was supposed to be the lead of his second album Carolina, only to be put in bonus track of Target version of the CD, and later wide release in Caldwell County EP. It's about a guy tellng a girl she shouldn't leave him for a rich guy. There are still some great lyrics here and there, like He can buy you all he wants to/But girl I ain't sold, and the "money/buck/bills" correlations in the chorus. And the "ha" ad-lib in the outro is breezy early Eric at its finest. However I am not completely sold on the arrangement and thought his later songs have much more interesting ones.

12. Hell on the Heart
When she's yours she brings the sunshine When she's gone the world goes dark Yeah she's heaven on the eyes But boy she's hell on the heart
Total: 341 Average: 14.20833333 SD: 6.74362286
Album: Carolina Songwriters: Eric Church, Deric Ruttan, Jeremy Spillman Hot 100 peak: 67 Hot Country Songs peak: 10
Hell on the Heart is the second single fron his second album Carolina. In this song Eric praises a woman so good that when they aren't together it's complete hell for him. It sounds like a radio fodder for me. Not too bad because it is more upbeat, but it isn't very memorable either. The juxtapositions are not as tried hard as Love Your Love the Most but is still quite gimmicky.

Spot on (at least for me) about the arrangement, it didn't quite grab me as much as other songs that I like from him, still a good song though. Most of the songs on this list are at least good for sure, speaks to the quality of Eric's music.
ETA: This was about "His Kind of Money (My Kind of Love)" but I strongly agree with what you said about radio fodder ("Hell on the Heart") as well.

11. Smoke A Little Smoke
And I could get up Go get her back Or maybe I'll just let her go Drink a little drink, smoke a little smoke
Total: 337 Average: 14.04166667 SD: 9.373780114 (largest SD!)
Album: Carolina Songwriters: Eric Church, Jeff Hyde, Driver Williams Hot 100 peak: 78 Hot Country Songs peak: 16
What??
Smoke a Little Smoke is the third single from his second album Carolina. He showed how he might handle a heartbreak in this song by Drink a little drink, smoke a little smoke. Noticeably this is the first collaboration between Eric Church and Jeff Hyde in songwriting. This song is so infectious that it always gets me tapping my fingers at least when this song is on. Love that hint of funk and vocal effect on him in a Drink a little drink smoke a little, smoke sentence. It got the hazy feeling from marijuana right. Also in the same sentence, the brief pause just before second "smoke" is a fun delivery. As for the lyrics, I feel like this has better juxtaposition than those in Hell on the Heart. Turn the quiet up, turn the noise down is such an interesting lyric to begin a song, and verse 2 is a good analogy for "getting over" It was quite close to get inside Top 10 too...

"Drink In My Hand" is so overrated, it's not even cool... The fact that that song is the only Eric Church song I ever hear on radio anymore (other than "Kill A Word" and "Round Here Buzz" incessantly for the last 2 years nonstop) has only made me even more sick of it, and I wasn't even that fond of it to begin with. The fake twang he adopts for parts of the song is especially atrocious. "Creepin'" is a song I expected to put in my bottom 5 when I started this. I remembered HATING it when it was on radio! And then to my surprise I loved everything about it when listening for this rankdown The groove is so cool, and the melody is super strong!!! I love how the second chorus shifts into double time. "His Kind Of Money" is one that I think I vaguely remember back when it was a hit, but it's one I certainly hadn't heard or thought about since then. However, it was an awesome re-discovery! Such a catchy jam! "Hell On The Heart" is in the same boat. I love it, and am so glad I rediscovered it here! It's a shame songs like these last two have been overshadowed by much more mediocre songs like "Drink In My Hand" over the course of his career. As far as what is leaving next, it sounds to me like one of the Mr. Misunderstood ballads! "Kill A Word" or "Round Here Buzz", please! (Although seriously, KAW better beat RHB... They're both overplayed, but my god...)

Oh. It was posted.
Ugh, "Smoke A Little Smoke" is one of the worst songs I have ever heard... There are few things more annoying than him murmuring "Drink a little drink, smoke a little smoke" over and over again several times over the course of 3 minutes...

"Smoke A Little Smoke" is a jam and would have been my #1, for sure.
"Creepin" is annoying and I'm glad it didn't make the top 10. It probably wouldn't have been super low on my list just because Eric has a lot of songs I dislike more, but I've never cared for it and I HATE how he sings creeeeeeeeeeepaaaannnnnn repeatedly in the song.

BOOOOO at "Round Here Buzz" making the top 10!!!!! I don't even remember that song having that positive of a reception on Pulse. Like, I knew a few people loved it when it was released, but I thought the general consensus after it had been out awhile was that it was a major snooze fest that ate up way too many weeks on the charts to ever be listened to again... Even for people who liked it to begin with, I can't believe that the recency bias of having it playing on the radio every 5 minutes for the entire last year didn't help keep it out of the top 10 here. Especially when songs like "Guys Like Me" that are generally well-liked on Pulse didn't even make the top 15

Also with that reveal Carolina is the first album to lose all its songs in the rankdown (whether you count His Kind of Money). At the same time, two albums haven't lose any songs yet, including his latest single! Your top 10: Two Pink Lines Sinners Like Me Springsteen Give Me Back My Hometown Talladega Mr. Misunderstood Record Year Kill a Word Round Here Buzz Desperate Man Last place remaining: austin

Maybe if LBTrocks had participated in the rankdown it would push it out of Top 10 Mind you that song has two #1 ranks although they are from less known posters in the country forum. But a mod and a stan ranked it low, along with the non-country posters. Can't say it is that well-liked

I’m shocked “Desperate Man” made the top 10. Usually the more recent songs get aided in rankdowns but it still surprises me it made it this far.
“His Kind Of Money (My Kind Of Love)” is one of Eric’s best songs. I love the lyrics, melody and production. It fits Eric perfectly and is so reminiscent of his first 2-3 years at Country radio. It got to #41 on Mediabase and I remember being perplexed it died so quickly. Fantastic song.

It's such an awful song and easily my least favorite song on an otherwise great album. I've never ever ever understood why people enjoy that song as its so grating to me. Very pleased that several others don't care for it either

I need to agree that WTF with "Desperate Man", and "Round Here Buzz" made the top 10 and I guess I'll be a loner and say that I'm disappointed to see "Talladega" make it as well. I don't dislike any of his songs remaining but those 3 are not in his Top 10 best and seeing NOTHING from Carolina make the Top 10 is super disappointing. "His Kind of Money (My Kind of Love)" should have made it, so underrated and a great song. Also "Smoke A Little Smoke" should have made it as well. Though I am even more disappointed to see "Drink In My Hand", and ESPECIALLY "Creepin'" not make the Top 10.
I definitely overranked "Desperate Man" and "Round Here Buzz". Can they please kick off the Top 10 and then "Talladega" follow next!

Because the Top 10 reveal will be so fun, I decide to halt it for a day and start to reveal bottom five of Top 10 album tracks that aren't in this rankdown instead. But first, condolence to this song which no one has nominated, no matter how long their list is... XX. Broke Record
