Album Track 9. Lotta Boot Left to Fill
Album: Carolina Songwriters: Eric Church, Jeremy Spillman Still not sure whether this is a diss song towards Jason Aldean, but they eventually collaborated anyway (and became the lowest ranking song in the rankdown).

Album Track 8. Chattanooga Lucy
Album: Mr. Misunderstood Songwriters: Eric Church, Jeff Hyde, Ryan Tyndell Here he blends country with blues and R&B to bring a sense of urgency to the lyrics. While the lyrics don’t give a good hint about this, it’s possible the women is an analogy for music. - Genius

Album Track 7. Mistress Named Music
Album: Mr. Misunderstood Songwriters: Eric CHurch, Casey Beathard The Gospel-styled music that I didn't know I needed. Love the lyric I'm married to a dream with a mistress named music so much!

Album track 6. Knives of New Orleans
Album: Mr. Misunderstood Songwriters: Eric Church, Jeremy Spillman, Travis Meadows “Knives of New Orleans” tells the first-person story of a man on the run following the murder of his lover. As the song progresses, the speaker’s guilt evolves, to the point where his flight could be described as both from the police as well as his own sentiments. - Genius But strangely I don't really like the melody here, although it is the closest moment to Born To Run in Eric's career.

10. Round Here Buzz
Catch me a 'round here buzz 'Cause you ain't 'round here none
Total: 317 Average: 13.20833333 SD: 7.407277072
Album: Mr. Misunderstood Songwriters: Eric Church, Luke Dick, Jeff Hyde Hot 100 peak: 56 Hot Country songs peak: 7 Country Airplay peak: 2
Rankdown history: 2017 Country - 28Yeah the melody of Round Here Buzz is quite formulaic, and therefore the most radio-friendly one from the album. But I like his stress in the final chorus. At least he didn't let the boringness of the song carry him away and elevated the song a bit because of that. Plus it is a nice formulaic song to me. Contrary to what Pulse believes, this is constantly hanging around Top 10.

9. Desperate Man
Oh but hey, what can I say? I'm a desperate man
Total: 303 Average: 12.625 SD: 8.412271058
Album: Desperate Man Songwriters: Eric Church, Ray Wylie Hubbard Hot 100 peak: 71 (currently) Hot Country songs peak: 16 (currently) Country Airplay peak: 13 (currently)
I am surprised many reviewers missed the intention of "a joyful melody with "desperate" lyrics, especially when they love Kill A Word. It is so obviously implied "if you say I am desperate, so be it", so not sure why one would expect darker instrumentation (for example). Yes the "boo-boo"s are annoying but they aren't too annoying compared to some other songs on the radio (Meant to Be's chorus says hi). Quite funny that he participated in singing the "boo-boo"s part in live performance as well. Plus the drums are what makes this song a major bop of the year. It is almost too infectious and actually in line with pop music that emphasizes drums. And the fact that non-country posters ranking it high proves my point. As shown in the graph, this was as high as #4 at one point and I couldn't wait to see major Pulse meltdown!

8. Give Me Back My Hometown
Give me back my hometown Cause this is my hometown
Total: 288 Average: 12 SD: 7.818595448
Album: The Outsiders Songwriters: Eric Church, Luke Laird Hot 100 peak: 36 Hot Country songs peak: 4 Country Airplay peak: 1
Rankdown history: 2014 Country - 5 CMA Song of the Year Nominees - 67Give Me Back My Hometown is a red herring song because it is a song about heartbreak but not reminiscence. The highlight of song is the last minute in which Eric's long notes (studio magic here obviously... ) and guitar intertwine each other. It is anthemic. It took a while for the song to reach Top 10 in submission process but finally made it.

Agreed that "Round Here Buzz" sounds incredibly formulaic, but for me that is not a good thing. That just made it burn on me so much faster when it was on the radio. I was sick of it after less than a month, and then I had like an entire year to endure after that point... It probably would not have been so disappointing if that marathon run hadn't come right after a marathon chart run for "Kill A Word", which is a very similar song from a sonic standpoint, but RHB is a definite step down in quality from.
I can't believe "Desperate Man" is so high... I don't hate the song like many seem to, but it is definitely not the 9th-best hit of his career...Somewhere in the middle would have been fine, but this one I think will go down in history as a little too polarizing to be this well loved going into the future.
"Give Me Back My Hometown" is a song that has grown on me through the years. I was sick of it after its chart run just like many of his biggest hits, but this one has reversed that opinion over time. The melody is very strong, and just quirky enough to be a standout.

7. Mr. Misunderstood
They'll be helpless to your musical charms And they'll all hold up their hands They'll all wanna dance Mr. Misunderstood, Mr. Misunderstood
Total: 284 Average: 11.83333333 SD: 8.468184276
Album: Mr. Misunderstood Songwriters: Eric Church, Casey Beathard Hot 100 peak: 84 Hot Country songs peak: 15 Country Airplay peak: 15
Rankdown history: 2016 Country - 44There are a lot to decipher in Mr. Misunderstood. It's mostly about his image, with a bit of romance part. It is quite cool that the song has changing rhythms in the middle, honestly more impressive than Lorde's Green Light for instance because this song changed rhythms twice. The heartland rock influence is great but can feel too long especially as a single choice. But god bless these lyrics: They're standing in line, chasing the buzz/Til the next big things and already was/And hell if they know what they're trying to find/If it ain't that same old, been-done kind. That's true today for any genre! austin 's list pushed it out of Top 10 but it quickly recovered and settled at #7 in the end.

6. Sinners Like Me
On the day I die I know where I'm going to go Me and Jesus got that part worked out I'll wait at the gates til his face I see And stand in a long line of sinners like me
Total: 277 Average: 11.54166667 SD: 8.821806808
Album: Sinners Like Me Songwriters: Eric Church, Jeremy Spillman Hot Country Songs peak: 51
Rankdown history: 2007 Country - 66Here goes the title track of Sinners Like Me, which is fourth and the final single of the album. (Also back to back reveal of title tracks!) It is about Eric's past and future, how he viewed his parents, siblings and afterlife. One point worth noticing is that the music video was released on Facebook 10 years after the album release. Sadly it was just a live footage video. While there isn't much to say for the arrangement (standard country music imo), this shows part of Eric's ability to lighten a theme, especially when an artist tackling his death on second song from first album. Those La de dah de dah/La de dah dah de de, although may sound gibberish, did make the song less heavy as it seems. When the doctor smacks him, he'll probably take a swing/Because he'll come from a long line of sinners like me is also a very amusing lyric. If people like early Eric Church because of this, I will gladly accept the reason.

"Sinners Like Me" feels like such a forgotten song, so I am always a little surprised by how much love it gets. It doesn't feel like the 6th-best song of his career to me, although it is definitely still incredible. I'm shocked to see 3 #1s for it!

Forgot to say Desperate Man is the last album to lose one of its song and the second album to lose all its song in the rankdown. Your top 5: (not bad representatives from the albums) Two Pink Lines Springsteen Talladega Record Year Kill a Word I will continue the album tracks reveal tomorrow, and finish the rankdown on Saturday night. Predict the ranks below!

Not sad or surprised to see any of these remaining songs in the top 5! This is a very strong cross section spanning his entire career. If I had to make a prediction, it would go:
5. Kill A Word 4. Two Pink Lines 3. Talladega 2. Record Year 1. Springsteen

Trading out Sinners Like Me for Two Pink Lines in the top 5 would have made me pretty happy but SLM made it much farther than I thought it would have

I really hope "Springsteen" doesn't win. So overrated, overplayed, and mediocre. "Talladega" and "Record Year" are way better. Rooting for one of those to win.

Before the revealing of Top 5 album tracks, I would like to spotlight castleoblivion26 's #1 because only his #1 didn't reach top 10 of this part of rankdown. ??. Over When It's Over
Album: Chief Songwriters: Eric Church, Luke Laird I like the dynamics between Eric and Joanna (female backing vocal) here, and it's the best Eric's album closer.

Album track 5. What I Almost Was

Not too fond on the melody but it is the foundation of his career.

Album Track 4. Without You Here
Album: Carolina Songwriters: Eric Church, Brandon Church, Jeremy Spillman Easy to listen but not very much content imo. The abrupt end after Living in a world that can't hear sound is kind of in your face.

Album Track 3. Carolina
Album: Carolina Songwriter: Eric Church This song is about how Eric feels about his home state of North Carolina and how it brings him back to Earth when he goes there to get away from his crazy life on the road. - Genius
