Yeah, that's fine. If you can have it done by sometime Sunday that should work out fine.

Ok, who's ready to get this started? Shouldn't take me more than an hour or so to finalize everything, so in the mean time here are a few album cuts as appetizers (one from my list and one from tim's)
"I Did My Part" (tim)
"The Family Bible And The Farmer's Almanac" (me)

Oh I need to answer these questions first! 1. Which songs will be in the top 5?"Forever and Ever Amen", "If I Didn't Have You", "Look Heart No Hands", "Deeper than the Holler", and "Three Wooden Crosses". 2. Which songs will be in the bottom 5?"I'll Be Right Here Loving You", "Everything and All", "Price to Pay", "Cowboy Boogie", and "Promises". 3. Which songs will be the most polarizing?"Pray for the Fish", "Stranger in My Mirror", and "Would I" will probably have pretty high SDs. 4. How do you think your #1 will do?Although I switched my top two at the last minute, I think it should make the top ten at worst. Not expecting it to win though. 5. Any other thoughts/predictions.About half of these songs were discoveries for me, especially his weaker-performing singles!

We start things off with Randy's second Christmas single, the title track off of his first holiday album. I knew the Christmas singles wouldn't fare well, but I kind of expected the other Christmas song to go out first. I personally love this song, it's one of my very favorite Christmas songs. It's always one I seek out at Christmas time, and makes me think of my childhood holidays.

I'll Be Right Here Loving You was the 4th and final single off of A Man Ain't Made Of Stone and Randy's final release on DreamWorks Nashville. It barely cracked the charts (which went to #75 in those days), peaking at #68. The song had previously been recorded by Rhett Akins in 1998. I don't mind this one, but I'm not surprised to see this near the bottom. The odd verse structure just didn't work as a radio single and given his already declining fortunes at the time, it was doomed from the start.

Sorry I didn't answer the questions. I am honestly not familiar enough with his music to have much of an opinion about how this will play out... I do think all of his songs that I hear all the time ("Forever and Ever, Amen", "Deeper Than The Holler", "Three Wooden Crosses", etc) should all have a shot at the top 5, but on the other hand I could see most of them having people who think they are overrated as well, so they might get tanked surprisingly early. I'd love to see something unexpected and less buzzed-about, but still very strong, such as "Out Of My Bones" or "The Hole", to win this. "Old Time Christmas" is one that I did not expect to leave first! It is a little boring, but still a very solid song. It probably deserved bottom 5 just because it is a pretty average Christmas song, but it is definitely not the worst song in this list. ...And that distinction goes to "I'll Be Right Here Lovin' You" The verses to this song are absolutely atrocious... Tbh I don't dislike the chorus at all, and kinda find myself singing along to it, but I always have so much trouble getting over those verses...

I'm getting used to see my songs with the highest rankings pop up at the bottom of rankdowns.

Price To Pay was the 3rd and final single off of Full Circle. The song was written by Craig Wiseman and Trey Bruce. I actually like this the best of the singles from Full Circle, but it still falls well short of his best material. Given the lukewarm reaction radio had to the album's first two singles, releasing a slow ballad as single #3 probably wasn't the best choice.

That's all for tonight. Should have a couple more reveals tomorrow night, including the first top 20 loss.

Hmm... I'm not doing terribly, but losing two songs in my 30s in the bottom 3 isn't the best start ha. I didn't know like 90% of these songs though, so I have no clue how this is going to go!

Cowboy Boogie was the lead single from Wind In The Wire, and became Randy's first single since 1985 to miss the top 40. Wind In The Wire was a side project for Randy, an album of western and cowboy music meant to accompany a tv special he starred in. The album was met with lukewarm reviews and both singles fared poorly at country radio. This song is ok for what it is, but it's not something I would seek out. I actually thought this might finish dead last, but with 4 top 30 rankings it nearly managed to escape the bottom 5.

There were only a couple songs I genuinely disliked from this list, and this was one of them. "Cowboy Boogie" is terrible.

White Christmas Makes Me Blue was Randy's first Christmas release back in 1986, and later included on Old Time Christmas. Sort of an unconventional Christmas song given that it's a sad song (and it's not even the only one on Old Time Christmas) 4 people lose their last place song here, although this hung in decently well for a Christmas song. I love this entire album, but this was a curious choice to be sent to radio. Probably the best known original from the album, Meet Me Under The Mistletoe, was never officially released. I definitely miss the days when Christmas albums would be a true mix of originals and classics.

Wind In The Wire was the second single from the album of the same name, peaking at #65. castleoblivion26 becomes the first to lose a top 20, but half the lists had this 47 or lower. This is a pretty solid western song, but it's a bit boring to be honest and doesn't compare with most of Randy's country releases.

Where Can I Surrender was the second single off of A Man Ain't Made Of Stone, released in late 1999. It began Randy's decline from radio, failing to even crack the top 40, a feat he would accomplish only once more in his career. This isn't a bad song by any means, but it just lacks something. It's pleasant, but probably not worthy of releasing as a single. 2 more top 20's eliminated here, as 8 bottom 10 rankings dragged it down.

Faith In You was the lead single from Around The Bend, Randy's anticipated return to mainstream country music after nearly a decade of releasing gospel/Christian country albums. Although the album opened fairly well, the single didn't gain enough traction at radio to chart. I will never understand why this song was chosen as the lead single. It's not a bad song, but way to slow for country radio. Around The Bend was a solid album and almost anything else would've stood a pretty good chance at charting at the very least.

A Few Ole Country Boys was the lead single from Heroes And Friends, a duets album Randy released at the height of his popularity in 1990. The song reached #8 in just 8 weeks on the chart, but would do no better. George Strait Junkie nearly loses a top 10, while two others finally lose their last place song. It's also the first top 10 peaking song to go out. I've always wanted to like this more than I do. The chorus feels a bit flat and the whole thing just doesn't work as well as it should.

Four Walls was the lead single from Passing Through, Randy's 4th gospel/christian country album for Word Records. Promoted to country radio, it reached #46 on the charts in January 2005. Oddly, while this song was charting, Texas singer Zona Jones would release a song with a very similar hook, eventually peaking at #47. .indulgecountry becomes the first to lose a top 10, as 6 bottom 10 ranks dragged this down. I've always really liked this one and am kinda surprised this finish in the bottom 10.

Are We In Trouble Now was the lead single from Full Circle, peaking at #24. It was written by Mark Knopfler (of Dire Straits fame). tim nearly loses a top 10 here, but otherwise the rankings for this were what I expected. It was an odd choice for lead single, especially coming off the success of his previous album.

Baptism was the lone single from Randy's first gospel album, Inspirational Journey. The song was first recorded as duet with Kenny Chesney and included on Chesney's 1999 album Everywhere We Go. The song won country song of the year at the 2001 GMA Dove Awards (gospel music assoc.). I considered not including this since it didn't receive much of a country radio push, but after listening to it I was surprised how much I liked it. It's clearly Christian country, but the melody is strong and there are few pretty good lyrics in there.

Itâs been a busy week for me and since I didnât want to miss out on the pre-reveal questions for this Iâm going to post mine even though Iâm all late to the party lol.
1. Which songs will be in the top 5? âForever and Ever, Amenâ, âDeeper Than the Hollerâ, âDigginâ Up Bonesâ, âIf I Didnât Have Youâ, and maybe âHard Rock Bottom of Your Heartâ or âBetter Class of Losersâ
2. Which songs will be in the bottom 5? Even though these have already been revealed I wouldâve guessed âCowboy Boogieâ, âWhite Christmas Makes Me Blueâ, âPrice To Payâ, âAn Old Pair of Shoesâ, and âIâll Be Right Here Loving Youâ
3. Which songs will be the most polarizing? âHe Walked On Waterâ, âI Told You Soâ, and maybe a song like âWhisper My Nameâ
4. How do you think your #1 will do? Iâm hoping itâll make the top 5 but it for sure should make the top 10
5. Any other thoughts/predictions? I really enjoyed revisiting Randyâs discography as well as discovering some songs along the way that I hadnât listened to along the way. Along with the likes of George Strait and Alan Jackson, I consider Randy to be one of my first country music influences who influenced me at a young age just when I was discovering country music.
Iâll come back around later this evening or tomorrow with some more comments about the songs that have already been revealed.

âOld Time Christmasâ - Yâall are some haters...and how is this even last place?! This is one of the few Christmas albums I have on vinyl and I put it on every time the season comes around. There were other songs more deserving of last place IMO but alas I digress.
âIâll Be Right Here Loving Youâ - I really want to like this song more than I do, but lyrically I think this is a weak song overall. I enjoy the chorus but could do without the multiple verses about everything from politicians to evolution.
âPrice to Payâ - I find this song quite forgettable and is one of the few singles from Randy I ever want to revisit again.
âFour Wallsâ - This is actually a pretty good song and I wouldâve ranked it higher...but I donât have a good relationship with my Grandfather and all the references to âGrandpaâ in the song make me wince.
âAre We In Trouble Nowâ - I knew that this song would probably be out somewhere in the bottom 10 and yet I still find myself disappointed that it is. I love Mark Knopflerâs songwriting on this and the overall mood of the song set by a combination of Randyâs voice with the steel guitar and piano. Iâve also always really enjoyed the last minute of the song which is nothing but instrumental.

#43. "Four Walls"
Total Points: 513 Average: 36.64 Standard Dev: 37th lowest (12.13) Year Released: 2004 Billboard Peak: 46
Four Walls was the lead single from Passing Through, Randy's 4th gospel/christian country album for Word Records. Promoted to country radio, it reached #46 on the charts in January 2005. Oddly, while this song was charting, Texas singer Zona Jones would release a song with a very similar hook, eventually peaking at #47.Ah, you mean "Two Hearts." That song actually reached its peak of #47 on Billboard and #48 on R&R in September of 2005, the same week "Angels" by Randy Travis would peak at #45 on R&R. That would be the single Randy would release after "Four Walls." Zona's song was only spun on Texas stations, Houston and Dallas got it to its top 50 peak. He was on a small independent label, Quarterback Records. I like "Four Walls". I liked "Angels" by a much wider margin but the lyrics and instrumentation were very good.

I'd Surrender All was the 4th and final single off of High Lonesome, and the only single from that album to miss the top 3. Randy wrote the song with Alan Jackson. Solid, unspectacular song. I love the vocal performance though. Seems like most had this in the 30-40 range.
