So, if there’s a video also coming out for this tomorrow, will this be pushed as a full-on third single? Could we be seeing three songs by Ed rising the chart at the same time? Having them all be collabs where he isn’t necessarily the main focus of them might help them all to survive simultaneously.
Of course this is all ignoring the idea that the traditional singles model for big-name artists is essentially being thrown out the window where it’s more about putting more out around album-release time to capitalize off of the fact that albums have shorter shelf lives.

I could see this hurting Cross Me's run at radio. Pop has basically made up its mind that they're taking I Don't Care to #1. Cross Me has seen a few bad updates recently, so I could totally see this taking spins from it.

Is it a cover or something, sounds very familiar, especially "we are" part, anyway another song with zero originality.

It generally sounds like Bad Liar by Imagine Dragons but the We are part sounds like Let You Love Me by Rita Ora to me

IDK, it's cool, but "Cross Me" is just THAT song. Thats what’s killing me about this LP campaign. The best single by far will be steamrolled by collabs featuring radio mainstays.

I actually really enjoyed this. This is the first song from this album era that actually wowed me. Even if some parts do remind me of other songs from before, that's not always a bad thing. I see this smashing eventually.

I see this smashing eventually. Ever since Shape of you and castle on the hill, I’m convinced people enjoy simple music hence I won’t be surprised if it doesn’t smash

It's cute but inconsequential. I am still obsessed with I Don't Care and I only listened to Cross Me once.

Can we, like, wait for one of the two previous singles to peak before moving on to a third one?
Radio is really thirsty for him huh?

Can we, like, wait for one of the two previous singles to peak before moving on to a third one? Radio is really thirsty for him huh? Mmm, "Care" is not that obvious smash in US as it was expected and soon the song will start falling like a rock, "Cross Me" is doing alright in Rhythmic but not gonna really cross over to pop, so the third single has to save this album, which seems to be not doing so as it barely went top 5 on Itunes. I think this album is a start of decline for Sheeran, obviously he will follow up next year "long waited" solo album, because here we have only "duets album" so I think right now he is just selling second rate songs, but he might sell off.

Do you follow the charts at all? "I Don't Care" is top 5 on the Hot 100 and is going to be the next pop #1. "Cross Me" is already top 15 on pop, so I'm not sure what you mean by "not gonna really cross over."

Ilook the wider picture - it's not doing that great on Billboard chart - especially after last album's massive long charting number 1 hit "Shape Of You". I don't think, that this new album has even close to SOY size hit, if it had we would have heard it - so there's the decline. And "Cross Me" has not reached top 20 on Billboard, it's a minor hit, by Sheeran standards a flop, which might miss Pop top 10 all-together.

Yeah, naw.
Neither of the singles so far are as big or hyped as Shape Of You but that was his peak moment hit-wise so he'll likely never reach that again. If that's your baseline for how big hit singles have to be in order to be considered successful, of course he'll flop from here on out. But considering how well I Don't Care is doing, and the fact it's stable (I wouldn't have been surprised to see it dropping by now) is a sign that he's in a good place right now. Now with 3 songs on the rise, he's setting up for a good first week for this album. I still don't see No. 6 being as big as his last album by any means but it'll keep him up as one of the biggest pop stars right now. His next album is what will need to be watched for to how much he has left in him.
