1. What will be #1? "If I Could Make A Living"!!!!!!!! Either that or something like "Live Until I Die". Maybe even "She Won't Be Lonely Long". 2. What will be last place? No idea! Maybe something like "Fore She Was Mama"? Or possibly something from his album that is not even available. 3. Which other songs will be in the top 5? IICMAL, "Live Until I Die", and She Won't Be Lonely Long" feel like shoe-ins. I would LOVE to see "Fall" sneak in there too! Maybe something a little bit surprising, like "Hypnotize The Moon" or "What's It To You"? 4. Which songs will be the most polarizing? "Then What?", "I Can't Sleep", "Fall" 5. Which songs will be the least polarizing? "If I Could Make A Living", "She Won't Be Lonely Long" near the top, and maybe a couple random album tracks like "Melrose Avenue Cinema Two" at the bottom. 6. Which late-career hit will do better? "Fall", or "She Won't Be Lonely Long"? SWBLL; I definitely expect to see it in the top 5! "Fall" defs belongs in the top 10 though. I would LOVE to see both of these make a strong showing in the top 5 though, as they are both among my favorites from him 7. Which non-top 10 song will do the best? Which top 10 song will do the worst? Lol I don't know his career enough to know what peaked where... But wasn't "A Few Questions" a top 10? I could see that doing the worst of his top 10s, simply because that album basically doesn't exist anymore... 8. Two different songs received both a first and last place vote! Any guesses what they were? "Then What?" will probably/definitely be one! No idea what the other one might be... 9. Any other thoughts/predictions??? As long as "Then What?" misses the top 5, I will consider my participation here to have been worthwhile Missing the top 10 might be too much to hope for...

Yeah, but then there's the fact that 95% of this rankdown was a discovery to me, so I don't necessarily have strong enough opinions to care which songs were or were not top 10s... I mean, the top 10s and non-top 10s are on a pretty even playing field for me. I also forgot "Rumor Has It" for my top 5 predictions!! I'd be shocked if that isn't a contender

Yeah, but then there's the fact that 95% of this rankdown was a discovery to me I thought you said it was zaclord who was the one who didn't know anything pre-2003.

I mean, I know a lot of stuff from the '90s! But the bulk of my '90s knowledge comes from the artists who were popular in the '90s but continued to be popular as I became aware of the industry... Other than his brief resurgence with "Fall" and "She Won't Be Lonely Long", Clay has literally always been a non-factor during my aware years Lmao! Nor has he gotten a lot of long-lasting recurrent play...

Oh. Well that's that! "Jesse James" was definitely an odd song, and I could see why people might hate it... But I thought there was something VERY catchy about that musical arrangement. There was clearly a lot of talent involved, and it was very fresh and innovative! I felt like I would be one of the highest rankers though.

kw9461: Who's ready for reveals to start??!?!?!? Everybody: WE ARE HERE!!!!! WE ARE READY!!!!!!!!!! kw9461: Lol, my mom called me. Anyways, kicking things off we have Clay's final chart single, "Jesse James", which reached #57 in late 2012. This was the 4th and final single off of She Won't Be Lonely Long. Most of us had this in our bottom 10, with only 2 top 20's coming at exactly #20. This never should have been a single, but Curb being Curb, they decided to push one last hopeless single from that album. It's not a bad song, but the hook has just never really worked for me.

Lol, damn, this song wasn't bad at all! That said, it had no business being a single. After the second single flamed out in the 20s, they could've honestly stopped trying.

Coming in at #39, we have the 3rd single from She Won't Be Lonely Long, "Like We Never Said Goodbye". I'm kind of surprised to see this out so soon, but aside from a top 15 from taylor, everyone had it below #25. gardyfan also loses his #40. As the second single this may have stood a chance to succeed, but after the previous single had a lengthy chart run that finished outside the top 20, this was likely doomed from the word go. I've always liked it though, and was excited when it was announced as a single, but it's kind of a weird radio single. Love the use of piano though.

Wow, I remember people talking about this like it was a fan favorite when this album came out. So far this isn't going how I expected it to.

Pulse typically hates songs like "Jesse James" so not shocked to see that go.
The other two I am more surprised about, especially "Like We Never Said Goodbye' like what the actual f**k

At #38 we find Clay's most recent release, "Change", which was released to secondary radio earlier this year. Lyrically this one is solid, and Clay still sounds good on it, but I didn't care for the production. Looks like most agreed, as more than half had this in their bottom 10, though bboat11 and Kanenrá:ke both lose a top 15.

After 3 straight singles from this decade to kick things off, we lose our first song from the 2000's at #37. "Say No More" was the lead single off of the album of the same name in 2001, and was Clay's final single for Giant Records. Say No More became the only album of Clay's major label career not to yield a top 10 single.
Not surprised to see this out early. It's the one single of his that I literally couldn't remember until preparing for this rankdown. I think i like it more each time I hear it, so familiarity likely hurt it.
That's all for tonight. Hopefully I can resume tomorrow night. Up next we will finally see the top 10 rank fall!

I'm shocked "Like We Never Said Goodbye" was one place off last. It's not a huge favorite (I like the song) but really? lol

2. What will be last place? No idea! Maybe something like "Fore She Was Mama"? Or possibly something from his album that is not even available. I love "'Fore She Was Mama." I get why people don't care for it but I always thought that song got too much hate. I hope it makes the top 30 at least. It was refreshing to hear it when it hit radio, since Clay took all of 2005 and most of 2006 off radio, so it was a fun welcome back for him before releasing a great love ballad like "Fall."

I literally knew nothing about this "Say No More" album until this rankdown... My placement for Change kept getting bumped down as I did the rankdown, as it was originally in my high 20's, it definitely deserved better than the #32 I gave it and definitely better than #38 in this rankdown. :/ edit: I agree about Fore She was Mama, I can see some people hating it enough to put in as their last place, but I personally find it so cute! Would've been my pick for "most polarizing" in the pre-questions.

Always happy to see a perfect ranking from the outset with my bottom ranking song leaving first! “Jesse James” is easily my least favorite single from Clay and I never understood why they went with this. I never would’ve guessed that “Like We Never Said Goodbye” would be the second song to leave let alone be in the bottom 5. It is a bit long winded in the lyrics I suppose so maybe that’s why this ended up getting so many lower rankings. Considering “Change” is one of Clay’s most recent offerings I wasn’t expecting it to do all that well but I still would’ve liked to have seen it escape the bottom 3. Considering the strength of his earlier material, though, I can see why this would fall to the back of the lists. I literally knew nothing about this "Say No More" album until this rankdown... Say No More seems to be one of Clay’s more forgotten albums and it was also his final release for Giant Records. Of the two singles released from the album I did expect that the title track would be first to go and actually suspected it would exit somewhere in the bottom 5 especially considering it didn’t even mange to crack the Top 30 at radio. I did listen to this album quite a bit back then and there are a few songs that I revisit every now and then…I don’t think kw9461 is going to highlight any album tracks so I thought I’d post a couple of my favorite tracks: I'm not going to post it but Clay also covered "La Bamba" on this album and his rendition is actually quite good.

^^ Thanks for that tim. I've never listened to that album all the way through, I didn't realize that Clay recorded "I Love It". I think I like Craig Morgan's version from a few years later better, but Clay's is strong too. Just time for one quick reveal tonight to clear out the bottom 5...

Bit of technical difficulties, found that my spreadsheet wasn't calculating all 13 lists for a few songs for some reason. Now that it's fixed, it didn't effect #40 or #39, but we do have a new #38.
