Oh, and speaking of album tracks "The Melrose Avenue Cinema Two" is good but I wouldn't say it is a go-to for me from If I Could Make a Living which overall is full of some standout tracks. I had submitted a few album cuts to kw9461 but again I don't think they're going to be covered so I wanted to make sure to post a some of my favorites:

Had hoped to plow through a bunch of reveals today, but the wind storm last night knocked out the power and it just came back on a little bit ago. Still, I should be able to get us down to the top 20...

Coming in at #25 we have Clay's final single from the 90's, "Live, Laugh, Love". This is the highest peaking song to be eliminated yet, but all of Clay's top 10's are still alive. Not surprised this wound up being polarizing, as I've never quite understood the calypso treatment of this song, though I do enjoy it. George Strait Junkie and someguy both lose a top 10 here, while 3 others see a bottom 5 song fall. Next up, someone loses a #2 rank.

In what comes as a surprise to me, we lose our first song from one of Clay's first two albums with "My Heart Will Never Know". Though the song peaked only at #16, it remains a fan favorite and received a lot more recurrent airplay than you would expect from a song that peaked that low. Didn't expect this to be so polarizing, but while taylor ranked this at #2, castleoblivion26 finally loses his #40. Honestly, I probably under-ranked this myself, as this is one of Clay's finest vocal performances, and that chorus is really, really strong.

I had Live, Laugh, Love at around #20 in my first roughdraft list because it's pleasant enough, but the more I got finished with my rankings, the further down it went.

At #23 we find Clay's final top 40 single, "Where Do I Go From You". It was the second single from his final Curb album, She Won't Be Lonely Long.
Lots of ranks in the 20's here, so this placement feels right. Solid tune, not as good as "She Won't Be Lonely Long", but still enjoyable.

This did a lot better than I expected based on the way y'all tanked the shit out of the other tracks from this album. Hopefully the title track makes it far in this though, which I'm anticipating (anything less than top 10 would shock me).

Had that teed up ready to post hours ago, but they had to cut the power again to install a new pole... At #22 we find the highest ranking non-single, "White Palace". The song charted from unsolicited airplay in 1994. This one never really stood out to me back in the day, but it was a fun song to revisit. This wound up doing a lot better than I expected, with gardyfan giving it a top 5 rank and over half the ranking in the top 25. It's hard to argue with the way Giant handled Clay's first two albums, but there's little doubt this would've been a hit had they decided to release it.

Just missing out of the top half we find the second single from Say No More, "If You Ever Feel Like Lovin' Me Again". This was Clay's lone single for Warner Bros., who had inherited the roster of the folded Giant Records. No top 10's lost here, but lots of ranks in the 10's and 20's lead to a pretty strong finish for a really forgotten single. I probably under-ranked it just because I hadn't heard the song in ages. It's really a quite good song, a bit understated, but superbly produced. Have to think the song would have fared better at radio if his label situation had been better at the time.

And with that we've reached the top 20!
Remaining Songs:
"What's It to You"
"Live Until I Die"
"Where Do I Fit in the Picture"
"Dreaming with My Eyes Open"
"If I Could Make a Living"
"This Woman and This Man"
"Who Needs You Baby"
"Hypnotize the Moon"
"Only on Days That End in "Y""
"Rumor Has It"
"Watch This"
"Then What?"
"You're Beginning to Get to Me"
"She's Always Right"
"The Chain of Love"
"A Few Questions"
"I Can't Sleep"
"'Fore She Was Mama"
"Fall"
"She Won't Be Lonely Long"
Notes:
- The top 20 really distinguished itself, as #20 outpaced #21 by nearly 30 points.
- All 17 of Clay's top 10 singles remain.
- Only 1 #1 has been lost, while 3 people have yet to see their #40 exit.
- 10 people still have their entire top 5 intact, while 7 still have their entire top 10 intact.
- The 2nd most polarizing song of the entire rankdown comes up next at #20. Any guesses what that might be?

It would’ve been great to see “If You Ever Feel Like Lovin’ Me Again” make it into the Top 20, but in the end I’m really happy to see it make it as far as it did. It’s long been one of my favorite’s and is a rather underrated song by Clay that likely would’ve done a bit better on the charts had Giant Records not folded.
“Live, Laugh, Love” is another of Clay’s often forgotten about singles even though it peaked just outside of the Top 10 back in the day. As random as it might seem this is one of Clay’s songs that often gets stuck in my head and I think it’s just a go-to song for me when I’m having a so-so day and need a mental pick me up.
It looks like things are about to get real as we enter the Top 20 because these are all great songs and I’m sure there’ll be some painful losses along the way. Of the songs remaining I’d have to guess that “’Fore She Was Mama”, “She’s Always Right”, “Only on Days That End in “Y””, and “I Can’t Sleep” all exit before the Top 15 with “A Few Questions” maybe coming in as the 2nd most polarizing song to exit (of which I'm hoping I'm wrong about!).

Mildly surprised but thrilled that "'For She Was Mama" made the top 20.

Kicking off the top 20, we find "'Fore She Was Mama", the lead single from Fall. It was Clay's first single since joining Curb Records, and first charted single in nearly 3 years. This one wound up doing a lot better than expected, thanks in part to a trio of top 10 ranks. It might have gone even higher, if not for a pair of bottom 5's, including last place from someguy. I liked this song much better when it was out, it hasn't held up as well as most of Clay's material for me. Clever idea for a song though.

Next up at #19 we find "She's Always Right", the lead single from Live, Laugh, Love.
A lot less disagreement on this one, with most rankings coming in the teens and 20's. We did lose two top 10's, but just one bottom 10 made this a lock for the top half. Love the lyrics on this one, pleased it made the top 20.
That's all for tonight, but coming up at #18 - the most polarizing song of the rankdown...

That's all for tonight, but coming up at #18 - the most polarizing song of the rankdown... Maybe "I Can't Sleep"? Although my wish would be for "Then What" Coming in at #18, we lose the first of Clay's big chart hits, with "Then What?" It was the 4th and final single off of Rumor Has It, Clay's final Platinum album. Though the song failed to reach #1, it is undoubtedly one of Clay's biggest and most recognizable hits. I tried to be as fair as I possibly could to this one. The production has never been my favorite, but it's an undeniable earworm. So much so that radio spent the next decade running it completely into the ground until I could barely stand to hear it. Can't say I'm surprised this was polarizing. Unfortunately for someguy , he loses his #1, but mercifully for bboat11 & taylor , their last place song is finally out.

Thank goodness this song is finally out of the game; it VERY much overstayed imo. Nothing about this song is listenable or redeemable to me.

I don't hate it the way you two apparently do, but "Then What?" just isn't all that good. I'm glad it's one of his first hits to go.

At #17, we find the single that preceded "Then What?", "Watch This".
Although this did reach the top 5, it has always felt like one of his lower impact hits, even if I personally love it. Not a ton of passion here either way, but avoiding any bottom 10 ranks (the first song to do so so far) kept it around as long as it did.
