The AM start doesn't seem anything like WAP, the video has decent numbers already though.

He looks to not care what public is thinking about him, this video is like coming out for the second time. Which public? The public who would already hate him because he’s gay, the public who would already hate him because he’s black? Not everything has to appeal to the widest whitest audience possible. Fixed it! Sugar can seethe.

Kind of a groundbreaking video if you think about it. When has another big artist flaunted the sexual parts of homosexuality so flagrantly? This is a MOMENT.

The video is tacky and ridiculous. So of course I'm on board for it. The song sucks unfortunately. I want to root for him so bad, but he just cannot get his music together.

It’s a catchy song, but I’m afraid he’s pigeonholed himself into becoming a niche artist. I don’t see the general public consuming this too much, especially with a video like that.

The video is definitely the best thing, I'm not sold on his music yet.

This guy got lucky with Old Town Road. The song became huge when he collaborated with Billy Rae Cyrus and the other remixes that were done. He thinks he's bigger than he really is.

I think he's really good with Twitter, he knows how to drive up engagement there. He hasn't quite managed to translate that into hits recently ("Holiday" flopped, but I wouldn't really put much weight into how "Rodeo" did. It got released months after "Panini" and the hype just wasn't there anymore), but there's still time.

I think he’ll go the way of Charli XCX. Massive cult following that lands him tours and festival gigs, upheld by critics, and present enough on social media that he can maintain some level of notoriety as a professional s**tposter, but I’ll be very surprised if he can replicate the success of “Old Town Road” here, or ever again, in any capacity. Much less hold that momentum. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Definitely gives him more creative freedom. I see him achieving a level of success that Azealia Banks could have had if she wasn’t a total bitch.

Can we collectively agree that he will never have another "Old Town Road"? We're talking about the highest RIAA-certified song of all time & longest-running #1 of all time.
Every other single he's released after that (he has released 3: "Panini," "Rodeo," and "Holiday") has been certified at least Platinum. He's doing fine thus far.

With all the money she obtained primarily thru "Fancy" her new music videos independently might be more appealing then those when on a label.

She never could outlast her past controversies and the “cultural appropriation” backlash. Iggy didn’t have a demographic. lnx does.

Still don't care for the song, but I am loving the sci fi porno aesthetic he is serving with the video. Lil Nas X has a really sexy body. I hope he releases a more explicit version of this.

The song went #1 before the remix, so one could make an argument that it was already huge before Billy jumped on. Did he elevate the song though? Absolutely.

#3 US Spotify. Safe to say it will outdo "Holiday" at the very least.

I think OTR will be the thing weighing him down, at least in discussion on music boards lol. Like, he has had a round of solid hits and I think he will have a round of similarly solid hits, but they won't come close to OTR so they will be deemed "flops."

This has already outpeaked HOLIDAY on Spotify Global (and it peaked the day after all the christmas songs fell, so that was the song's strongest day), which was 45 days after tik tok exposure, like 2 performances and some television spots. Off to a tremendous start, I'm honestly so impressed

The fact that he didn't dissapear from the map after that says good things about him, because Old town road screamed one hit wonder and he was able to avoid that fate.

This first response to this has been terrific from my social media perspective. This is the kind of thing you do that wins you a loyal fan base from a demographic of people; that will only strengthen his career.

I don’t think anyone meant the exact level of success of OTR, just the fact that it was a sizable hit that kept him in the general public eye.

To be fair there are not that many openly gay singers having mainstream success. Now it's more common to see them on the airplay charts but there was a time were only Elton John was there. Anyway, how many gay singers are currently charting on the top 50?
