Latest single from Panic! At The Disco's upcoming album Viva Las Vengeance due out this Friday called "Don't Let The Light Go Out". The track, which was serviced to Alternative, goes for adds in this format now.

Sticking with the "songs that could have been on the Grease Soundtrack" vibe. I love it! Different. Funny enough during the 80's this 50's high school songs style was alive and well with songs like "Somebody's Baby, "Sea of Love" and loads of Huey Lewis and the news songs. Now I'm faced with the task of which to chart first? This one or "Middle of A BreakUp"

yes this is a step up from the last two singles, which felt very samey to Viva Las Vengence. This one is pretty good.

Wait, they’re working this and “Middle of a Breakup” at the same time? Is the other song really getting that poor of a reaction or are they just insane? I don’t get it.

This is a blatant rip-off of "Leave Before You Love Me".

I like it. Given the "Last Christmas" comparisons, I could definitely see this crossing over and being a big winter smash

The more I think about it, the more songs I can think of with that same melody/chord progression. The verses in "Instant Crush" by Daft Punk are very similar for example. Is this whole album like this? A lot of "Middle of a Breakup" sounded like Cheap Trick's "Surrender" to me as well.

Hell yeah. I just heard this on the radio and it’s a friggin vibe. Most epic song I’ve heard in awhile. Good for them.
I don’t give a damn about the “Last Christmas” comparisons. That song is hot garbage anyway.

has anyone listened to the album yet ? it's too early to know for sure but just from the derivative singles / panic backlash of the last few years / quick rise and fall of the lead single i'm getting potential trainwreckord-y vibes, even if alt's gonna continue giving them a free pass after the success of their last era

Top 10 on Alternative: 12 10 PANIC! AT THE DISCO Don't Let The Light Go Out 1335 1303 32 1.823 Despite the peak this seems to be grinding to a halt. I wonder if this song isn’t working either. Viva Las Vengeance crashed fast after the hype-driven #1, Middle of a Breakup got such a hostile reaction that it had to be aborted, and now this is potentially halting. The Brendan Urie backlash is real. Would it be hyperbolic of me to suggest that he’s becoming the new Nickelback or Phil Collins?

I love Panic! but being realistic, they were always kind of “just there” or he was “just there”, had a few smashes in 2019, but overall in a 15 year run had maybe three Top 10 hits, hell, three Top 50 hits.

I feel like being honest in saying I have not had any drive to listen to any of the new album outside of this song or the title track. Both tracks have burned on me shockingly quickly & I’m not at all shocked at the reputation VLV has gotten as an album. I do, however, know a few friends who thoroughly enjoyed it, so to each their own. But I guess it’s just not my thing & like others have said I wouldn’t be surprised if this spells the dead end for P!ATD as a popular commodity.

While we're on the subject of songs this sounds like... I submit this for consideration.
As a whole it definitely sounds like something right out of Bryan Adams (circa 1984) or Survivor's playbook. Which isn't really my cup of tea, but it's well-done enough for what it is.

If Brendan is going to score a smash off this album, this is it. I didn't hear anything else from my pass of the album that sounds like a hit, or even that good.
The weird thing is that the album is chock full of stuff I should like. The recording to tape to give it a warm sound. The return of guitars. The dance-ready rhythms and grooving drums. He had all of the ingredients to make something fantastic and special. And yet it just feels derivative and worn. His tendency to oversing derails several potentially great moments on the album too.

This would be better if Brendon Urie wasn't the singer - his oversinging in the chorus is kind of off-putting.

panic's last peak album for me is too weird to live too rare to die save rock n roll electropop done RIGHT Panic was still a band back then, Brendan had two other people with him contributing songwriting and performances, one of them being Dallon Weekes, who is now the singer for IDKHOW. At this point, after three straight mediocre-at-best albums (IMO, of course), I have to feel that Brendan is his own worst enemy and he needs to have someone of equal importance to bounce off and to rein him in to achieve his full potential.

Maybe unpopular opinion, but I kinda dig his overthetop oversinging style. That's an aspect I enjoy in most vocalists from MEtal to K-POp and Brendon is certainly fueled in that department.

as much as i don't disagree abt the whole "brandon urie oversings" thing, i do find it kind of amusing how quickly the narrative went from "brandon urie is a vocal god" to that. it's the christina aguilera effect, if you will
