lol, the people hating on the song/Olivia in general.... it's getting tired. Obviously she is connecting to a large swathe of the population; she has the biggest female debut of the last decade or so. Just say you don't get it and move on. It was only a matter of time... my favorite kind of post! Pulse, mods, etc. can we have a talk for a second? Posts like this will never not be exhausting and unnecessary. I feel like posters who don't like this song have expressed themselves straight-forwardly and intelligently, how about you take the time and do the same? Instead of passive aggressively insulting everyone you don't agree with. So anyone who doesn't like this song or Olivia is just "hating" or too dumb or out of touch to "get it." What an easy way to invalidate any criticisms you don't agree with and shut down discussion. And since when has quality ever been a requirement for success? Like come on, you're smarter than this.

Do we think this can debut with 10M Spotify?

Yeah, this feels like a song that will spend 2 or 3 weeks at number 1 then fall down the charts fairly fast. Maybe 25-30 weeks on chart 25-30 weeks is now considered dropping down the charts fairly fast? um...

Do we think this can debut with 10M Spotify? I don't see it far-fetched. It will do 11-12M first day on Youtube, the hype is there. The reviews are mainly positive so it'll be replayed quite a lot. I think around 10M is a fair prediction.

This is good, but not as good as the singles from Sour (Although may grow on me with more listens). This could have easily been the lead single from a deluxe version of Sour. Interested to see how it does!

I do feel like it's unfair to expect a major radical sound change for a second album from such a young act; but I can't help but feel a bit like, yeah, this could have been on SOUR for better or worse..

Oh, this is good. In my opinion, Olivia has got "it" in a way that I simply don't see from a lot of the rising TikTok industry plants stars of today; the only recent example I can think of is Reneé Rapp. Both young women who deserve to be superstars.
The only negative I can say is that this is her weakest bridge. I wasn't a fan of "drivers license" when it first came out, but I still had to admit the power of that bridge, and "deja vu" and "good 4 u" took that to another level.

I don't see how this fits on SOUR, the only song on that album that comes close to taking as many risks as this one would be "deja vu" I think, and that's a maybe. you can clearly tell there's artistic evolution and she's maturing, but obviously she was never going to drop a trap-pop or disco bop, not as her lead single anyway.
I have no objection if she keeps playing to her strengths, continues training her vocals (the progress is great so far), and updates her "signature" sound for this album. her descriptions about creating "pop-opera" and being into dynamic songs already has me excited.

Olivia has been singing since she was like 5. What exactly are the “vocals” you’re looking for improvement on it weren’t there during Sour?

I'm getting some Meat Loaf vibes from this, specifically I'd Do Anything for Love. If it had some more guitars, it would lean on the edge of being a Rock Opera track.

What exactly are the “vocals” you’re looking for improvement on it weren’t there during Sour? please. she wasn't the most consistent live, and her voice is becoming fuller, more controlled now. I gave her a compliment on her vocals on this song, you don't need to start shit with me. she is maturing and her voice is too, as it happens to every fucking teenager growing into adulthood.

I think it’s a bit jarring but I don’t hate it at all. My main issue with both this song and O is the same issue I had during her debut era and it’s that I don’t know who Olivia is as an artist yet. I’m seeing a lot of “this sounds like [song] by [artist]!” when this was her opportunity for people to say “now THIS sounds like Olivia!” Bruno Mars has been around for over a decade and doesn’t have his own sound, he’s basically a glorified tribute act Miley, Selena, etc don’t have a sound either. Most artists don’t these days. Olivia’s still young, she has time and this song sounds nothing like anything Lorde’s done so I don’t get the comparisons.

Some folks just want to argue lol. Her vocals have improved noticeably from the start of the Sour era. I’ve been underwhelmed by her past live performances then I was wowed by her at the Billboard Women in Music in March.

She's definitely been working on the vocals! I'll give her that much. But the song is a pass for me. Something about her is so affected to me. I think it's because she so blatantly takes from every big/breakthrough female artist (Lorde, Lana, Billie, Taylor, etc.) over the past decade to build this persona that I don't find interesting (or even genuine) in the least. You can hear it all throughout this song. It's so overwrought and desperately trying to create a dynamic moment. It's borderline parody IMO. This. Even if it's not intentional. It's what I hear.

That doesn’t mean she already wasn’t an absolutely fantastic singer before.

Totally. What's tired is the inability of a surprisingly large amount of people here to accept valid opinion/critique. There is no hate, there is no insult - it's just discussion. An artist connecting to a large swathe of the population does not make them above critique.

Never said that any and all posts that dislike the song were inherently 'hating'. People are certainly allowed to not like the song. I didn't think some of the criticism was particularly nuanced or thought out, but then again, clearly neither was my post. I'll delete it.

You people ridiculous with your criticism. What do you people expect? A perfect song? Has there ever been a perfect song? This song is great, the vocals, the production, the bridge the change up and the chorus. One of the best songs to be released in 2023.

I don't agree with a lot of posts here, nor do I hear any similarities with Lorde in this song, but that doesn't mean I should argue with everyone who doesn't share the same opinion as me. There's no song or artist that every person in the world loves, just don't take it personally, and enjoy the music.

Never really got onto the hype train here. I still this Driver’s License is not only overrated but sincerely kind of awful.
There’s many elements of this song that I liked on one listen. Not sure it all comes together into something memorable, but it could grow on me.
