Novody wants to watch a halftime show with songs they donβt know. They have (normally) 13 minutes to fit in a careerβs worth of music and literally every second counts. Why risk losing the audience halfway through to promote a new song that may or may not carry when you have hits for days that people will cheer on. Itβs a massive platform but the logic people here that focus needs to always be on promoting current music doesnβt really apply.

Loved Usher's halftime show and he truly delivered! He's such a great singer + entertainer and he showed that last night. Loved all of the guests and so many of the songs he featured in it. There were some songs I wish were included but understand he can't do that many songs with 30 years of music, haha.

So none of the songs from his new album, not even just one or two, even though he just put it out literally on Friday and it would've been great promotion!! This happens again and again with halftime performers neglecting their most recent releases (Timberlake, Gaga, e.g.). It has to be a stipulation that the NFL requires them to perform mostly or almost exclusively their most well-known hits. I'll repeat my bolded points above: neglecting their most recent releases and performing mostly or almost exclusively their most well-known hits does not mean completely neglecting their most recent releases or exclusively performing only their most well-known hits. I do remember Million Reasons, Filthy, Give Me All Your Lovin, etc., and how they were heavily featured. But those were all just one current song out of a setlist of maybe a dozen. I would have expected maybe at least 2 or 3 current songs, but maybe my expectations are a bit too high, so I'll backtrack on that a bit. It just seemed to me, especially at the time of viewing those performances before I really knew the system, that they would skew more towards promoting their current release, since many of them all had new albums releasedΒ literally within days of performing. Also, my point of how Usher performed zero songs from his new album still stands. He could have performed at least Good Good. The Super Bowl halftime show is almost always offered to artists with huge legacies and a large catalogue of hit songs. So the set is seen more as a career retrospective than a concert to preview new material. And because the artist is essentially the side entertainment at the largest sports event in the nation, theyβre expected to perform the hits and classics that most Americans will know and enjoy.

I thought the press said it was the longest halftime ever and that he negotiated 2 extra minutes? The halftime was the same as the last few years ?? I understand that of course you want to play the hits but at the same time, I do agree, he could have thrown in a snip of a new song - especially over repeating OMG again with Will I am .. who really needed that? especially since it was done literally at the super bowl in 2011.....maybe it was just like returning the favor back to Will ? But they could have done something else.

Yes! She's so natural and entertaining, it's really refreshing to see an artist commanding the stage without huge vocals and out of this world choreography. I think she also has enough hits to headline (Flowers, Wrecking Ball, Party In The USA, We Can't Stop, 7 Things, The Climb, Nothing Breaks Like A Heart, Malibu) and she can have a rockstar moment with Midnight Sky, See You Again, Nightcrawler (with Billy Idol), Angels Like You and of course Jolene with Dolly.

Miley could definitely do it, but I don't see any way Taylor Swift doesn't do it next year now that she's firmly tied in with the NFL (well, unless she and Travis break up in the next few months). My guess is they're already working it all out.
Usher has been my top pick to do it for a few years now. Now that he's done it, the next two on my list are Janet Jackson and Green Day. An Outkast reunion for the halftime show would suit me just fine too.
Of course Eve could just do a 13 minute performance of "Tambourine" and I'd be fine!

I don't know if Taylor Swift would do it (yet) - she is one of the only artists who could really say that playing the super bowl wouldn't cause much of an impact to her career other than simply a bucket list check mark to say she did it. She is already bar none probably the biggest global person in music currently (ever?). Not to mention she makes millions and millions from touring and with a new album coming, she might not be slowing down or willing to slow down for the weeks/months of planning and preparing just to do the super bowl. It just doesn't seem like it would be worth it to her. I would like to see it though.

Yeah, Taylor will probably leave it for 2026 when she's done with the tour and Taylor's version albums.

I'd like to see another rap halftime. 2025 is in NOLA. So they could have Lil' Wayne & friends like they did DR. Dre and friends. Imagine Super Bowl with Wayne, Nicki, Drake, and crew. That would be fun

I was crying through most of his performance...didn't realize how much some of his songs meant to me. Having said that, I thought the show was just ok overall. It didn't seem very focused...way too much happening at once. I get that they don't get much time but many of the past years' shows have been much better. I'm totally miffed that "You Make Me Wanna" was omitted too. My favorite Usher song. Gonna have to go back and listen to some of his albums again

My guess is they're already working it all out. I bet they even promised to rig the entire season for another Chief's Superbowl bout, lol. I think Morgan Wallen might be next tho. Taylor don't need it.
