Alright, we aren't trying to get this thread locked, so let's officially move on and back to the album. This thread is definitely not the place where minorities need to perform educational services. Can I also ask if we can extend it to not lobbing rhetorical bombs? Matty Healy is gonna come up in the discussion of this album. As someone that has often increased the temperature of threads myself, I will definitely do my best to choose a path of lowering it, and I think we should all kind of agree that if we’re gonna bring up Matty Healy, we should all refrain from increasing the temperature. This entire discussion didn’t need to happen, I don’t know what was achieved from it, and one or two people going “yeah look at those people defending racists!!” — just no self-awareness about contributing to the climate of the thread. This thread really doesn’t need things like “junkie dick” going around, either. People have no idea who is reading this; no one should feel personally attacked just reading this thread, or feel like they are branded in some ways for listening to someone’s music. It doesn’t help the discussion, it just incites things, and a dynamic where certain people can throw rhetorical grenades but other people can’t respond to them wouldn’t be cool either. Especially if a moderator is posting it — please?; because it creates a really unequal dynamic.

What are our guesses for her TTPD era set list, since it appears she is certifiably crazy and adding it to the show?
My guess: Fortnight Down Bad My Boy Only Breaks his Favorite Toys Who's Afraid of Little Old Me? The Tortured Poets Department I Can Do It With a Broken Heart
Also I think she WILL cut some songs from the normal set (The Archer, Tis The Damn Season, Wildest Dreams, I Knew You Were Trouble, Long Live, and Mastermind - you are on notice)

(ETA: I'd love to see her add "The Alchemy" as well or instead of "WAOLOM?") I also agree with the songs above that risk getting the chop, and she could even afford to cut something from the folklore set ("betty" is so unremarkable live, despite being a good crowd sing-a-long, and "tlgad", while a good song, she just stands there and performs. It's more of a showcase of the dancers in dresses and tuxes than anything).

Absolutely think those are the right songs for her to perform regularly, and delegate the rest to the surprise songs.
Cutting songs is hard but definitely agree those are some of the weaker parts of her set.

The Archer should never have been in the set but we’re not ready to have that conversation

We sure as hell aren't. I am one step closer to tattooing onto my body the lyrics that speak my life story.

2.6m final first week
—-
HDD:
Republic’s Taylor Swift has notched the second-biggest album debut of all time with THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT. Swift’s 31-track marvel moves an astounding 2.6m units in its opening week, knocking NSYNC’s No Strings Attached out of the #2 spot (Adele’s 25 remains the all-time #1 with 3.4m+). Physical sales account for 1.9m of the total, with record-setting vinyl sales contributing nearly half of the total. As we reported earlier today, Swift also set a new first-week streaming record, logging 865m streams

There are waaaay bigger issues in the setlist than "The Archer." "The Man" being one of the opening tracks is one of the reasons I cut it off, lol.

I'd be fine losing the rest though, they didn't add much to the show.

The Archer represents why Lover is so great. The Man represents why Lover is about 4 terrible tracks away from being a perfect album and her opus for me… sometimes I still lose sleep over the fact that 3 of the only 4 songs that need to go on such an amazing (and mainstream friendly) album were 3 of the 4 singles at the time lol

Awww i love “the man” but yeah, there were better single choices. That should have stayed a solid album track.
I wonder if “paper rings” would have been a good single.

Both The Man and YNTCD are just so try-hard cringe with their lyrics to me, but mostly I find the melodies annoying. Points to her for at least not hiding blatant allyship though, but to me those are giving “ok, now I need to write that gay song” and “ok, now I need to write that misogyny song.” Not very organic feeling. I think Afterglow would have become her trademark ballad hit, and that’s something I will always stand by. I think lover was always destined to blow up as a wedding song, but not so much a single. But I honestly believe I Think He Knows, Rings, Thousand Cuts, London Boy, I Forgot That You Existed, and Miss Americana were all viable hits with a strong push. Missed Potential: The Album. But of course we did get redemption for THE missed potential.

I’ve been stanning “Paper Rings” since the day I first heard it and I always wished it had been a single. I still wish she would’ve included it in the Lover act for The Eras Tour.

Pretty damn cool to see the top 2 opening album weeks ever be solo females now (even if I would have personally wanted almost any other Taylor album to do it).

Thank god Lover finally got delayed justice, but to fans it’ll still go down as her fumbled era that could’ve been.

I just wrote on Twitter yesterday that I hope there's not a TTPD set if that means that "The Archer" has to go lol. I'm willing to sacrifice an album I'm not in love with (yet), to hear my favorite song live.

I think for singles
2). Guilty as Sin 3). ICBIWABH
I don't know if she is going to go more than 3 deep, since she didn't for Midnights. I am positive she will have something very commercial for reputation, so I would expect something there.
If she went four 4). Down Bad

I have been taking this album in chunks. I was traveling with no time to spare when the album dropped last week, so I am a bit behind everybody else in my deep dive. I really haven't even touched the second album yet, but the first one has grown on me so deeply.
- Fortnight is just incredible. This is a song that will stand the test of time. - My Boy Only Breaks His Favorite Toys -- Single Ready. Get this a full promo push. I need to see this #1 at some point. - Who's Afraid of Little Old Me? -- People seem highly divided on this, but just give me all of this. 5.5 minutes of pure perfection. - loml -- jesus, I need a xanax after listening. - I Can Fix Him -- Gorgeous - The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived -- like, come on, this just slashes deep. This is up there with her best songs ever lyrically.
I am still unpacking a few other songs, but this is a marvel of an album. This is the same I felt when I took Folklore and Evermore -- I needed TIME to FEEL it, understand it, breathe it.
My only gripes at this point is that 31 songs IS TOO MUCH. I am not upset at all, but when they are all so similarly veined, its just very difficult to take it all in. I will be unpacking this album though for weeks to come.
My only disappointments so far are Florida!!! (mainly because Florence is one of my all time favorite artists, and I just didn't feel like this lived up to either of their full potential), The Tortured Poets Dept (I just cant get into it).

Just popping in to say that I think cutting ‘ikywt’ from the set list is absurd when it’s one of her biggest hits 😭
