I'm finally listening to other songs other than "Fortnight" and "I Can Do It With A Broken Heart."
"Down Bad" and ""Guilty as Sin" were almost immediately instant to me. I have both of them playing on a loop, and the latter might be my favorite song so far.
"But Daddy I Love Him" is slowly revealing itself to me- it reminds me of her earlier work, like from Speak Now. "So Long, London" - the intro music is so gorgeous that I wish it carried through the whole song. Still, this is another that has potential to grow on me. "The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived" - Wow, did she cut deep with this one. I do love her deeper voice on the track, and I love how the intensity gets ramped up in the second half of the song.
From some of the reviews (from both the fans and publications), I was expecting there wouldn't be any hits or obvious standouts, but I don't agree with that at all. The melodies and productions don't bang you over the head like they did with Red or 1989, but it's still accessible for the most part. I think it also helps that I'm not playing the first part of the album in order.
I'm still going to focus on the first 16 tracks for now.

GAS? did nothing for me on first few listens, but with how much it’s getting stanned I’ll need to revisit

Guilt As Sin? is fantastic and probably my favorite. Happy to see all the love it's getting. But the one really getting slept on for me is 'Fresh Out the Slammer'.

I have to admit, on first quick listen of the album, I was disappointed with the same sound. And it felt so dreary. With the exception of Folklore/Evermore, I didn't like her albums post-1989, so I thought TTPD might not be for me again.
Am glad that I decided to give proper listens to a few songs anyway. Gradually, I discovered more and more tracks that I love. I am a big fan of the early Taylor songs. Those personal, diary-like, relatable songs. TTPD feels like that Taylor again... only now with more mature perspective, lyrics and vocals.
I am currently stuck on loml, been listening to it many times. She captured it so perfectly - the devastating pain, emptiness and feeling of betrayal after a breakup. This track reminds me so much of Last Kiss. The melody and production is so haunting. And her vocals? So heartbreaking.
Between loml and The Prophecy, I really feel for her.

I really do hope for a 1989 / Reputation style album next though. I am not gonna lie. I adore sleepy Taylor, but I really could use some high tempo, high energy, anthem songs next. I am really hoping we get some on Reputation, but if the Vault tracks are going to be similar to the other ones, I feel like its just going to be more of the same.
Its really time to mix of the producers.

Just popping in to say that I think cutting ‘ikywt’ from the set list is absurd when it’s one of her biggest hits 😭 It’s also the least grating and generic of those early pop mega hits from her (WANEGBT, SIO), but I digress.

Since I’ve mentioned a few times recently how botched I think the Rep and Lover singles were, figured I’d give my alternate timeline opinion on how I think both eras would have been every bit as big as 1989:
Reputation: 1. I Did Something Bad - It literally achieves the exact same thing that LWYMMD does in terms of themes and setting that tone for the era, except it is infinitely hookier and more radio friendly. No way the label would have had to payola this one to #1 on radio. And think of the epic video potential.
2. Delicate - The other great representation of what the album is all about, and such an easy #1 smash if it had momentum on its side vs not having any momentum by the time it actually did get released. Perfect setup as well to lead into the sound for what would be the biggest hit of the era imo…
3. Don’t Blame Me - Cruel Summer sized in its smash potential, and the insane streaming all these years as just an album deep cut pretty much proves it. I mean has she ever had hooks and bridges and production quite as epic as here?
4. Getaway Car - Perfect breather from the moodier vibes of the first 3 singles with the obvious 1989-esque hit of the album. It’s just a perfect little pop song, what can you say. Big push and maybe she scored her 1989 record breaking 4th #1 from the album here.
5. Call It What You Want - It’s the perfect finale to 4 such big songs by not trying to be such a big song. Immaculate chill vibe that also gets stuck in your head easily. Not a 5th #1 I don’t think, but maybe a 5th top 5.
Boom, era just as big as 1989, even bigger in some ways (again I think she would’ve scored 4 #1s instead of just 3). I will come back and do Lover in a bit, since that one is much more complex.

Don’t Blame Me is hands down Taylor’s best song and deserves the single treatment so it can rightfully have its time as the #1 smash it was destined to be.

Some numbers from around the world -
UK - #1, 270.089 sales makes it the biggest debut of the decade (bar none)
France - #1, highest International debut since 2016 (David Bowie) Germany - #1, biggest debut there in three years Italy - #1, now tied with Madonna for most number one albums for an International artist Norway - #1 AND #2 (the album is split there) The Netherlands - #1, sold 16x the number two
Europe - TTPD had the biggest streaming debut of all time (surpassing Divide from 2017)
Australia - #1, now the female artist with the most number one albums (three other albums still in the top ten and all of her albums are still charting), most streamed album debut of all time New Zealand - #1, now the artist with the most #1 albums (14)
More coming, but...yea. The biggest artist of our generation.

Guilty as Sin? is just so flawless. As someone said, it has that kind of nostalgic sound to it, kind of Avril Lavigne-ish. Up until the bridge it's a regular great song, and then that last chorus kicks in and.. MAKE IT A SINGLE TAYLOR, PLEASE! It gained on US Spotify today
Top 15 placements: #1 Fortnight (4m) #3 ICDIWABH (2.9m) #4 Down Bad (2.7m) #7 So Long, London (2.17m) #8 Who's Afraid Of Little Old Me? (2.104m) #9 MBOBHFT (2.022m) #10 But Daddy I Love Him (2.018m) #11 Florida!!! (2.002m) #12 Guilty as Sin? (1.954m) #13 The Tortured Poets Department (1.93m)
Also, plugging this again

So many songs to process as usual with her, and I still haven't heard the entire thing. Love all the ones listed above, except the "But daddy..." one, which I can't recall.

The Archer represents why Lover is so great. The Man represents why Lover is about 4 terrible tracks away from being a perfect album and her opus for me… sometimes I still lose sleep over the fact that 3 of the only 4 songs that need to go on such an amazing (and mainstream friendly) album were 3 of the 4 singles at the time lol What is the fourth song after ME!, YNTCD, and The Man you would cut? Coming tomorrow - Noon EDT Off topic but you are so well spoken. How did you say all that without one "em" or "um" Thank you!!! Honestly, practice. I made practice videos before I launched in late 2022 and I found I said "um" a lot less frequently the more episodes I made. The first 5 or 6, I edited them all out. I also try to at least have some thinks in my mind I want to cover so once I start talking, I can get going with excitement! Speaking of, here's the full video!

I love how you were able to assume Me!, well done hahahah. But Soon You’ll Get Better is the other… I understand its personal meaning to her and that’s sweet, but it does nothing for me as a song. And removing “likes” and “ums” from your speaking vocab is a great skill to have these days. You would not believe the senior point of contacts I had for some major brands at my old job that would drop “like” so much in Zoom meetings that Cher Horowitz was somewhere blushing.

Thanks to Rhythm Nation pointing out the clean version of Down Bad, I decided to add it to my TTPD (Dylan's Version) as I love the instrumental too much. Very False God. I also replaced TTPD song with its clean version

Here to echo the love for Guilty As Sin? Such a beautiful song and reminds me of some of the new Maggie Roger’s stuff sonically that I’ve been loving. This and Down Bad are my favs, really really loving this project.

Guilty As Sin is too good.
My Taylor Album rankings at the moment- 1.Speak Now 2.1989 3.Folklore 4.Fearless 5.Midnights 6.evermore 7.TTPD 8.Red 9.Lover 10.Debut 11.Reputation
After listening to TTPD for a week this is where I would rank it. All of Taylor’s albums are great although. Every single one has some favorites.

In a non TTPD news - Emerald Dress Alert ...last night at The 15 and Mahomies Foundation Golf Classic gala and auction event in Vegas. Is that mean Debut TV or Rep TV next? Anyway, she and Travis looks good together.

Officially 2.6M, only behind Adele for all-time, the biggest of her career by far, and the biggest vinyl sales week since tracking began in 1991, with 859K. Extends her record for the most #1s of all time among women. This is just mind-numbingly insane:

Looks like the beatles record will be in danger!!! haha
we still have Debut TV, Reputation TV which will give her 16 #1s. And then easily another studio album for 17 (and let's be real probably several more). Probably a Christmas album (hopefully LOL. I still want it) for 18 and she is still due for a greatest hits? I wonder if she would though since she did all the TVs...

She loves her albums too much to do a GH album that kills their catalog sales. In this day and age there's also zero reason aside from manipulating the chart a la Weeknd or Post Malone having these huge "sales" each week when odds are people are streaming the songs directly from the parent album instead.
Also why would she need to rush and do an Xmas and a GH album for the record? She just had career best sales. She could drop 50% from these week's numbers with each successive album and still get to 20 or so #1 albums with ease.

In the streaming era, I think there’s no reason to release Greatest Hits anymore. Anyone who wants to listen to all the songs via own playlists even if they’re smash hit or not.

I wish more artists released vinyl editions of Hits or Best Of compilations. I don't think Taylor would need to now. Her sales are too high. But in 10-20 years, once things taper off (assuming they do), a Retrospective set of some sort would probably be a good idea.

I love the "Queen Radio, Vol 1" and "Ultimate Aaliyah" vinyl sets I have. I really hope we get an updated GH for Britney at some point too.

Her stats are astonishing, but I can't say anything because they are for her best album. I hope she is as proud of herself as I am as a fan.

I'm not saying she needs to rush Xmas or anything for the record, I was just listing things I want and that she easily has in the bag to get the record. As some others have said GH projects are niche these days but they are still in demand from collectors for favorite artists. And those who still like physical media/vinyl would enjoy having less records to pull out if looking to play hit singles from respective artist.

I just don't see Taylor releasing a greatest hits album anytime soon especially given she and her fans have already been revisiting those hits the last few years with her re-recordings. I think a Christmas album from Taylor could be fantastic, but I don't want it this year. I want her to finish her tour, release the last two re-records, and then take a year or two off (which will not only be beneficial for her personally, but also for her career).

A greatest hits album would be pointless. The TVs have been serving that purpose for her.

A greatest hits album would be pointless. The TVs have been serving that purpose for her. Yeah, greatest hits are really a cd/vinyl era thing when it was the cheapest way to get casual fans to get all hits in one purchase. They don't make much sense in the streaming age at all other than for chart tomfoolery. Taylor will likely just keep on releasing regularly for the next few decades. No need to sabotage her back catalgoue with a greatest hit.
