Really happy to see Billie represent the big artists who actually releases a good leadoff single in 2024.
Hope it does well in general (even if Alt radio is still a different discussion, and we have The Marías in the AAA format right now).

Imo better and more instant than any of the HTE singles

This the same Billie Eilish I usually tank? This is way up my alley. Like MisterWives. Love songs that ride fierce basslines. Love the lyrics too. Girl on girl is hott, but They could also be guy singing to girl. I'll probably be downloading this one in a few more days.

I like the aesthetics of the music video. I think this is the right choice for a lead single. It's catchy and probably the most straightforward track on the album. I hope this becomes a big Alt hit for her. Still confused why they never sent the HTE title track here.

The amount of seething this causes alt radio audiences is still crazy to me. She’s probably the poppiest of the alt pop acts on the format, but she always had vibes and especially with this record she should be on the format. It sucks since I’ll see KROQ or 99X advertise her and the comments are so negative. Makes me wonder if this’ll do well even with the classic alternative stuff

Makes me wonder if this’ll do well even with the classic alternative stuff Billie is literally the embodiment of the mainstream atm. Only a few acts like Taylor Swift and Drake are more mainstream than she is. It isn’t so much whether the music fits Alt but her image at this point. This plays into why Olivia Rodrigo can’t penetrate Alt despite some earnest pushes by her label. Several of Rodrigo’s songs fit the format too, arguably better than Billie’s, but her mainstream status makes it near impossible. Billie started on Alt unlike Olivia but there’s a convincing argument to be made that she is no longer “the alternative”.

yea count me among those who are SUPER curious how this'll do under the current state of alt radio -- easily would've been a smash 5 years ago, but now ? i kind of don't think this'll do much honestly (though i can't feel too bad for her since it'll probably be a big hit overall)

Sure, but I feel like she can get a free pass if the song is genuinely good and it fits the vibes of whatever market. Obviously alternative should play a lot of alternative stuff, but even when they do or advertise a festival with some cool new artists they should play, the audience will also be negative because of unfamiliarity or thinking it’s all pop. You can’t win

I mean, it’s a great song, but I can’t see it sticking around here if Happier Than Ever could barely make a dent on the format. The discourse regarding her image is pretty dead on, imo

I can’t see it sticking around here if Happier Than Ever could barely make a dent on the format. Not a good comparison because that one wasn't pushed and stations (primarily iHeart) were playing it on their own accord. NDA I believe was the last single of hers to get a proper push on the format.

Sure, but we’ve seen artists with much less of a track record on Alt (Harry Styles, Benson Boone) gain just as much traction as HTE did without official pushes. It took like six months for that song to crack the top 50. Just figure the panel would’ve been eager to play a harder-sounding crossover hit from an artist that’s had a lot of success on the format.

Didn't Benson Boone make the top 50 for a week? Not a good comparison since HTE actually made the top 40. I'll give you As It Was, though, that one stuck for a while.
