Beyonce will never be on the level of Madonna. If she continues on this path, maybe Whitney, Janet, or Mariah... but Madonna?

I dont know, I kind of agree with Bob. Obviously she will not be a cultural icon JUST LIKE Madonna, but she just seems to...permeate everything. If she continues her success, I expect her to continue to permeate everything.

J.Lo permeates everything too...and it caught up with her.
It's too soon to tell. She's gotta stick around the next 5-10 years.

Yes, but Madonna was innovative, pushed boundaries, evolved as a person and media figure, etc. Beyonce has basically been exactly the same since her debut 6 years ago.

Yeah If anything Beyonce reminds me of J.Lo, but with a little more talent and I don't think that she's even on J'Lo's level yet. I think that she will make it even further but it's really too soon to tell right now. She's just in her stage of being loved by the media.

Beyonce has the potential but I think that she's still afraid to really branch out there and try new things, especially with the Work It Out phase. If she gets bold then she's got it.

I dont know, I could see the burnout on JLo coming a mile away. Beyonce just seems like she will be different Shes been the same for 6 years but she also seems like she has always been a natural and inevitable part of the music industry for the past 6 years. I dont know, you guys are right, it will take more time. I think she has a chance though.

I dunno, as far as a solo artist she seems a bit flavour of the month to me (although she does have some longetivity thanks to being in Destiny's Child). I feel like she'll face a backlash on her 3rd solo album and won't be able to return.

I thought she was going to be around and going strong forever, by how much the media loved her. Beyonce does have a certain spark that's hard to deny, stage presence like no other, and an innocence that will always win her over with the media. We could very well be looking at an Icon in the making. She just need to be a little more innovative and she's got it.

Madonna was just stirring up controversy. How is that innovative? Beyoncé's just a media whore. How is she a cultural icon? People love Beyoncé, but she doesn't exert any influence on pop culture. If, for example, she sings about abstinence and it causes teens to postpone sex, then she would be a cultural icon. Otherwise, no.

Um to me a cultural icon is someone who's face or voice or presence immediately conjours up feelings or any non-superficial thoughts... I mean, how many people do you see in the news b/c they drop in on a trial? And the reporter talks about what they were wearing and stuff?

Oh PUH-LEEZE. She is just an overated media and radio w*ore. I can see her having a decent career but she hasn't done one thing that have made people stand up and take notice.
If you want to talk about Cultural Icon's I would say that Eminem and Britney are the closest to ICONS we have seen in a very long time (or atleast for this generation). They are enormously popular and have started trends, controversies, and people can't seem to get enough of them and this was in 1999 to now. They are the king and queen of the music industry and have been for quite some while

That might have been with Destiny's Child but she was surrounded by controversy with the whole break-up, have her own little dance, write her empowereing anthems and etc. She might now be on the level of Britney yet but there isn't much of a difference.

Beyoncé has more #1's than Britney, and in this case you really HAVE to include her fame with Destiny's Child-- at this point she's more accomplished than Britney. And it's getting to the point where you won't find anyone who knows who Britney is that doesn't know who Beyoncé is, if it's not already to that point.

Beyonce's on her way to becoming a Cultural Icon, but not yet. Names like Eminem, Britney, and Madonna are household names, Beyonce's just started as solo, after all, she used Destiny's Child as a guise to boost herself into the spotlight for years. She needs to do something extraordinary.

Beyoncé has more #1's than Britney, That's irrelevant when talking about a person's impact on contemporary pop culture. I agree with Castlevania. Eminem and Britney are far more influential.

Beyoncé has more #1's than Britney Who cares? Avril Lavigne has had more number 1's than Britney too. Wow, she must be a REAL cultural icon then. Look, Beyonce is fun and all, but she's another Jennifer Lopez to me. It doesn't seem like she does music cuz she likes it. It really does seem like the money for her.

Christina Aguilera is more of a cultural icon than Beyonce too. I would say that they're about on the same level, neither are a full blown icon at this point.

LOL No way. Beyonce isn't that talented IMO. She's just decent at everything she does rather than being AMAZING. She has done nothing in terms of truly impacting on culture and society - other than introducting the word 'bootylicious' to our vocabulary. To compare her to Madonna is laughable.
Britney is way more a cultural icon and, even thought I can't stand him, Eminem too.
I'd agree that if Beyonce is a cultural icon then so is Christina Aguilera... in fact Christina perhaps more so.
Beyonce just seems to be so fake and eager to please. She's naughty but she's nice and can't seem to make up her mind... and the way she does things does not come off as intelligent.

Christina Aguilera is more of a cultural icon than Beyonce too. I would say that they're about on the same level, neither are a full blown icon at this point. I would say the same, they're at about the same level. It's realy hard to tell who a true "icon" is without looking back on it all. I agree with Josh too- maybe a Whitney, Janet or Mariah.. But nobody's really touched Madonna, like it or not. It always ends up coming back to her with these comparisons. One thing Beyonce has going for her (at least as far as I can tell) is people in general seem to like her. I'm talking about the everyday person who doesn't post on this message board and isn't a huge pop music fan. These people tend to have very strong positive or negative feelings about Christina, Britney, Avril, Eminem, etc. I don't know many people (again, outside of this board) who have such a distaste for Beyonce. She seems to be someone that people who aren't fans of her type of music can tolerate.

madonna is very overrated and i think janet is more of a performer/artist and real icon , madonna's hype made everything seem bigger than it really was..........alot of ppl in the media try to portray britney as a icon so u can see how easy it is to create fake hype....madonna is great andd talented but is overrated and at times did things just for shock value to create interest in her that her TALENT alone would never do!..........

lol and to answer ur question no because u dont become a ICON by just doing music and having talent................ppl who create fake hype like britney, or mister i got shot 9 times, or a white rapper will be considered icons.

I think that once this DC thing is over and she makes her 2nd solo album, she will.
