I'm a little surprised they didn't choose this as the second single, considering they promoted it for ESPN's X-Games, which will be shown this winter? Not to get too off-topic, but I could see myself getting into them this winter. What sort of competitions do they hold (maybe in one response post, so as not to get too off-topic)?

are you sure?? they talked about 3 october.. 31 oct is too far. The song sux for me but have an impressive appeal on no-chili fans or no-rock fans, so is the right choice.. Hope Storm in Teacup as 4Β° single

This is a good choice. It's probably my favorite song on the album. October 31st as the adds date gives TMB a chance to stay #1 for a couple more weeks without a new single taking away its spins. This should be another #1.

Snow? (Hell No)!
Okay, it's not a bad song or anything, just not one of my absolute favorites on the album (plus I got to use the lame pun). I'll echo zago's choice, "Storm in a Teacup", for the 4th single, otherwise I'll settle for the title track, "Torture Me", "Wet Sand", or "Desecration Smile".

I think RHCP have released that "Tell Me Baby" essentially has no chance on CHR/Pop, which may explain the relatively early adds date for this. If you figure that songs typically debut in the top 5 at least two or three weeks before its official adds date (especially for a band with as much name-power as the Chili Peppers), that's even more telling that RHCP will not be crossing over with the 2nd single.
This won't go to #1, but it will certainly hit top 5. Who else is watching the X-Games this winter? Isn't this still the official promotional song? I haven't seen any ads on ESPN recently, but this would make a PERFECT promotional song.

Should that matter at a time like this?[/Eric Cartman] Pop adds dates don't mean much for urban or rock crossovers. To me, it's all about how the songs are promoted on pop stations or just generally who an artist markets its music towards with that particular album. Any rock band could give a song pop adds and that wouldn't necessarily mean it will become a hit, or even make a sizeable dent below the top 50.

I happen to think "Tell Me Baby" is the most Pop-friendly track from the record, even moreso than "Dani California". I won't be surprised if this also goes Top 30 at CHR/Pop, though I don't expect another Top 10 or such. Sincerely, Noah Eaton

I also think that "Tell Me Baby" iis more Pop-friendly than "Dani California". But of course, my opinions aren't always in line with those of radio programmers.

This track is beginning to pick up some adds.
I too have doubts about this hitting #1, both because it sounds poppier than a considerable amount of their artistic catalog (I think it would have been a smarter strategy to release the more edgy track "Storm In A Teacup" as the third single and then this) and with the track clocking in at about five-and-a-half minutes, but this will have no problem going Top 5.
This is a beautiful song and by far my favorite single they've released from the album thus far. I believe this will also hit at Triple A given another softer track, "The Zephyr Song" peaked higher there than at Alternative.
Sincerely, Noah Eaton

I just downloaded about a 5:40 version of this. I was originally listening to a version without the riciculously drawn out ending. Which version is being played on the radio?
This album is chock full of really great songs for the radio. "Death of a Martian" and "Snow" are probably my two favorites, but it's really more of a poppy (I won't say "watered down") version of By The Way, in my opinion.
"Snow" won't go to #1 because it's too long, but will probably peak at #3.
Why do I find myself rooting for Three Days Grace to wind up with the year-end #1, rather than "Dani California"?

If you're referring to the title track rather than the album, I think "Snow" sounds hardly at all like "By The Way"; the latter had a consider amount of their earlier funk-rock and edgier influences. But in comparing sounds by albums, yes, I would agree. "Snow" sounds like a ballad relative of "The Zephyr Song", charged with more of an arena-friendly feel. Sincerely, Noah Eaton

Could reach the #1 in modern rock chart (the same of alternative radio&records chart) for these reasons: -chili is the band with more n.1 in that chart with 10 number 1. -Snow is the track from Stadium Arcadium most loved by no-chili fans and by tipical "adolescence mtv audience". -Could do very well in winter thaks for the title "SNOW". -the version on radio is only 4 minute long.
the reasons that it couldn't reach n.1 is: - a lot of high competition (MCR,GD+U2,Incubus and some winter new releases).
sorry for my english, i'm italian.

The radio edit is 4:43 to be exact. It's true that they topped the Modern Rock Chart with "Californication", a track exceeding five minutes in length. All the same, I still have doubts "Snow" will more because I think it'll sound much more melodic and poppy to Alternative listeners than they are used to hearing from the Chili Peppers, especially coming on the heels of a previous single which, despite having verses that ring back to more of their old-school sound, has a chorus that is among their poppiest yet. That's why I think they should have released "Storm In A Teacup" third to balance out their sound selections for radio, and THEN this. Sincerely, Noah Eaton

quote..i'd prefer Storm in Teacup that maybe is my favourite on new cd (i like old chili peppers) than Snow that is one of worst on cd. but i think that it can reach n.1, too poppy??yes, but tellmebaby chorus is 100% Pop and it was n.1 for 4 weeks, Otherside was rock but with a lot of pop vibes and was n.1 for 13weeks, Can't Stop have a lot of pop vibes too..

A fourth single would have pushed this out of winter and past the X-Games. Maybe seasonality overrode sound selection considerations. Maybe AFI was faced with the same situation.

It's beginning to look very likely this will go #1, primarily because the competition is really weak at the moment. That'll make three consecutive #1 hits for the Red Hot Chili Peppers from a single album, the first time in career history they'll accomplish this feat (They collected three #1 hits from "Californication", but were non-consecutive)
"Snow" is looking poised to become a chart-topper after Incubus reaches the top with "Anna Molly", which is not likely to stay on top for long.
Despite the track still easily sounding poppier comapred to much of their other catalog, it has also gotten a lot of praise from both fans and non-fans, where I've heard many who don't exactly regularly tune to them declaring this single as one of their all-time bests.
Sincerely, Noah Eaton

I don't seem to be liking any of the singles from this album and this is coming from a band that has released some of my favorite rock singles...it's a shame for me but at least everyone else seems to be enjoying this album.

This album is still selling remarkably well, though, superior currently than "By The Way". Sincerely, Noah Eaton

Admittedly, I'm not a huge fan of RHCP. 'Zypher Song' is probably my favourite by them and even that one I don't listen to often. I do like this single though and it could easily be my favourite of theirs.
