Beyonce won Best Contemporary R n B album last year and that album includes the song irreplaceable. So, how is irreplaceable eligible for nomination. I've heard that once you win in album all your other songs on the album are ineligible for grammy awards the following year. I think that's what happened to Kelly and Because of You. Everyone wanted her to be nominated for BOY this year but it didn't happen, likely because she won pop vocal album the year before.
So, do they twist the rules for Beyonce? Perhaps since she has a truckload of grammy awards. Really, I think after a while the importance of grammy awards means nothing, a 25 year old with 10 of the same award (winning them basically every single year)is pretty ridiculous, IMO. Stretch the stuff out some. The award would seem much more prestigious if they didn't give the same award to the same person over and over and over again. That's why the Oscars are seen as the most prestigious of all because they don't just give the awards to the same person over and over again. You very rarely see a person win more then one in their entire career, (but at the grammy awards you can bet someone can walk away with 5 in the same night), there are exceptions but for the most part you win one oscar, they always give the award to a new person, even if they aren't as talented, just to keep the importance of the award and the ability to horde to a minimum. IF the grammy's started doing this more the award would come with more respect.
Beyonce could sing the phone book and they'd not only award her with a grammy nomination but she'd actually win it.

I just checked and sure enough Mariah was nominated for r n b vocal performance as well as r n b song. So I guess the folks giving that false info about "not being eligible if you've won grammy for album" a rest. However, Mariah and Beyonce are totally different, Mariah doesn't win a grammy for each and every album she puts out, she might be nominated but she hardly ever wins. Before her last album, Mariah hadn't won a grammy in almost 15 years (since her debut year when she won BNA and Vocal Performance). Beyonce, on OTHO wins practically every year and for material on the same album and she will definitely win for "Irreplaceable" in R n B vocal performance. Soon she will top Aretha Franklin for most grammy awards and Aretha Franklin has worked 40-50 years for those grammy awards, Beyonce has worked about six or 7 years for her's. LOL. Listen, beyonce's cool with me, I just think the way they just throw grammy's at her (and anyone else under 25 nearing 10 grammy awards) cheapens the award.

ok aside from this rant on the greatness of the oscars/ belittling of grammys....
what albums do u think have a shot at AOTY? here are my pick (as of now):
amy winehouse -- back to black maroon 5 -- it wont be soon before long paul mccartney -- memory almost full
those are the only three right now that i could really see getting nominated. i think nominations are possible for joss stone, the white stripes, linkin park, and a country album nom for brad paisley....maybe even album of year, it definitely deserves it

Winehouse and M5 both have decent chances, I agree. I can't see the LP album in the general category. Maybe Joss could be but more likely it will be in an R&B category. I don't know about her album, but I think "Tell Me What We're Gonna Do Now" would be an excellent choice for Best Rap/Sung collaboration. Offhand I can't think of stronger candidates for the award. I think Paisley will get a country nod but I'd have trouble seeing it in the general category. Ryan Adams's new album might get a nod in some category.

Like I posted in the Sober thread, the Rock Female category would actually have some action this year - Amy Winehouse, Pink, Avril, Kelly, Brandi Carlile
R&B Female: Jennifer Hudson - AIATY Fantasia - When I See U Ciara - Like A Boy Amy Winehouse - YKING or Rehab Corinne Bailey Rae - Breathless or I'd Like To

I don't think Amy will get nommed in R&B. They will probably put her in pop She's defined as R&B/soul and that community seems to have accepted her so...it's possible. I mean Robin thicke will get the R&B label and he's white so...I'm not sure the big part that plays in it...

Robin Thicke has done so much better on R&B than she has though. You Know I'm No Good didn't do very well on R&B and Rehab hasn't even charted.
Joss Stone only got nominated in pop too. It might be safer too, to avoid battling with Jennifer Hudson.

They could put Rehab in pop but they also have YKING & possibly Back To Black to spare in the rock/r&b categories.

There's also the Urban/Alternative category. "Rehab" or any of her songs could go there.

I just want to quickly clear something up.....Beyonce can only be nominated for Irreplaceable in the ROTY catagory....as her album won Best Contemporary RnB album last year.
Mariah was only nominated for Don't Forget About Us which was eligable, due to it being on the re-release not the original.
so Beyonce is only eligable fore the stuff that she put on the re-release.

For Amy Winehouse, these are the categories I would put her in:
ALBUM OF THE YEAR - "Back to Black" SONG OF THE YEAR - "Rehab" RECORD OF THE YEAR - "Back to Black" (the song) BEST NEW ARTIST - Amy Winehouse BEST TRADITIONAL R&B VOCAL PERFORMANCE - "Love is a Losing Game"
Other Options: POP FEMALE VOCAL PERFORMANCE - "You Know I'm No Good" POP VOCAL ALBUM - "Back to Black"

Traditional R&B? I don't know about that. I mean musically, she might fit in. But I think that would be a hard category to get nominated in, harder than a regular R&B nomination.
But as Tortuga mentioned, I could possibly see her being in Urban/Alternative.

Gwen can be nominated in the following categories: Album of the Year - "The Sweet Escape" Record of the Year - Any single from TSE Song of the Year - Any single from TSE Best Pop Vocal Album - "The Sweet Escape" Best Female Pop Vocal Performance - "4 In The Morning" Best Pop Collaboration w/ Vocals - "The Sweet Escape" And then of course there are the various remix and dance categories she could possible get nominated in. The video categories are still out there as well!

Actually the biggest song off the Daughtry album hasn't been released yet and will probably be released early August. It is "Over You" and even Billboard said in their review of the Daughtry album that this song is the sure-fire hit off the album. The Daughtry era will continue. Remember what was written here once that song becomes HUGE and everyone is sick of hearing it all over the place. Again, NARAS are snobs but they will not be able to ignore the fact that the Daughtry album is one of the biggest albums of 2007 and will win the Billboard Award for album of the year. Daughtry will get nominated for Best New Artist but won't win (Amy is a shoo-in) for Grammy but Daughtry may win in that category for the American Music Awards. Robin Thicke won't be nominated for BNA. He isn't a new artist no matter how one slices it.

I hope Joss can get a nomination. :) I honestly think "Tell Me What We're Gonna Do Now" is a really strong contender for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration. Offhand I can't even think of many other high quality songs that qualify for the category.
