I think it happened with Ashanti's "Foolish". I know the closest this song came to, officially, topping the chart was when it was tied in spins with "A Thousand Miles". Vanessa won due to having the larger gain. I could have sworn "Foolish" logged a day or two on top midweek before surrendering #1 back to Vanessa. Am I mistaken? I think "My Happy Ending" is even a worse case of not making #1. Even though Ashanti had the same amount of spins as Vanessa, Avril was #1 all week! All week! But no no, no no. Maroon 5 just needs to take the spot again.

I have honestly been struck dumb.
Those heartless Maroon5 idiots. It's all their fault. Why Sunday? Why not wait till Monday? Honestly! She was #1 for the ENTIRE week!

Maroon5 edges out Avril for another week... 1. Maroon5 - She Will Be Loved - 7732 2. Avril Lavigne - My Happy Ending - 7727 I am in shock. 2 weeks in a row where there have been less than TEN spins separating the two and both weeks Maroon 5 won.

It's really rude and just goes to prove they have no manners. Whatever happened to ladies first?

Wow. I don't understand why it's such a big deal. What's with the huge fuss over Avril on this board? It's not a very good song anyway, it's pretty clear it was receiving payola... and it still made it to number one during the middle of the week anyway. Calm down, people!

I don't give a care if it was #1 during the week. It needs to be #1 on Sunday or else it doesn't matter.
She's got one last chance, at least. It'll either be her of Maroon5 next week.

I think the big deal is just how close that Avril's come to officially get #1 and yet she doesn't officially get it. Regardless of how good or bad you think the song is, it's just really strange to see how close the song has been and hasn't gotten to #1. She might do it next week, but then again, she might not. It might be another close week.

If anyone's wondering, here's the recurrent schedule for the next few weeks:
Going recurrent THIS week:
Christina Milian f/ Fabolous Kevin Lyttle
Going recurrent NEXT week:
Nina Sky Nickelback
There is nothing scheduled to go recurrent for a few weeks after that. However, Jojo, Alicia Keys and a few others will go recurrent as soon as they fall below #20.

Maroon 5's spin total is the lowest for a #1 this year. Their total of 7732 is nine spins below what "The Reason" had in its 8th and final week at #1.
This will be Franz Ferdinand's fifth week at #32.
Debuts are N.O.R.E. f/Nina Sky, Joss Stone, and John Mayer.
I'm surprised "Daughters" made the top 50 so easily, when "Clarity" only hit #99.

I'm surprised "Daughters" is nowhere to be found on the AAA chart. Did it not go for adds there or something?

Holy God is Vanessa really at #30?? Yeah. And I guess we can thank AT40 for her bullet. There are about 60, or so, affiliates on the R&R panel.

Wow...lots of changes today. The Switch between Avril and Maroon 5...just... ??? Then "Dip it low" was pushed recurrent just in the last update. Good to see "Whatever U Want" hit Top 40 just as "Dip it low" goes out however. "Goodies" seems to have slowed down pretty quickly...hopefully Kelly Clarkson can save the day and prevent "Goodies" from #1. I also hope "Lose My Breath" can get to the Top at some point, but who knows. and WHEN will "Nasty Girl" start falling...that song is horrible....

Avril started losing spins the moment she reached #1 on BDS Mainstream Chart. Avril also started losing spins the moment she reached the Top 10 of the BDS Mainstream Chart with "Don't Tell Me". Oh well.
Now she's 140 behind Maroon5.
Now for the good news...

I am PISSED about Avril. That was SUCH a good song. "She Will Be Loved" is extremely overrated. I loved "This Love" and "Sunday Morning" is amazing, but "She Will Be Loved" is a bland piece of shit that didn't even deserve to go top 5.

I don't think SWBL is that bad, but I do feel sad about Avril not getting the official #1. Prophetic words: So much for my happy ending.

SWBL is VASTLY overrated. I knew that before it was even on the top 40 chart. And hogging #1 certainly didn't help it with me.
Just a minor note: I believe "I Don't Want To Be" entered at #39, not #38. That's all.
